35 Someone thumped loudly on the door, the sound jerking Jayhan awake. He felt he had only just drifted off to sleep. A surge of adrenalin rushed through him, leaving him feeling jarred and dazed. It was still pitch dark and rain drummed steadily on the roof. He tried to rub his eyes, but his hands encountered the cloth of the polka dot scarf. After a moment of uncertainty, he worked out that it actually was still dark, and it wasn’t because he was blindfolded. “What’s going on?” whispered Sasha. “Come on, you two!” bellowed Shay. “Our squad has arrived. Up and out with you.” Before they could react, the children were hauled to their feet and pushed towards the door.
