Chapter Eight

1029 Words
[Kat's P.O.V] Weeks passed, and I hadn't caught even a glimpse of Elias. Kit grumbled, annoyed. How could he not see his mate? Weeks ago, he had claimed that the mate pull was strong. Yeah, strong, my ass. He was playing house with a common she-wolf. That was the only thought playing through my mind. That's the only thing that could be distracting him, other than the war he had placed on my old pack a little while ago. I walked down the same bland hallway I had all week, hoping that today would be the day I could see Elias. Suddenly I felt too needy. I didn't need to see him. Instead, I could walk through the gardens surrounding this boring place. As soon as I become Luna, I would change quite a few things around here, lively the place up. The Gardens, however, would remain untouched. It was breathtaking. Flowers of every shape and color covered every inch of the flower beds. My nose twitches as I catch an unfamiliar scent. Suddenly, I tense as a small juvenile wolf walks to my left. She sidesteps a bright red rose bush, running right into me. "Oh," she says, her flashing emerald eyes widening as she takes me in. "I'm sorry, I didn't know anyone was around." "Oh, don't be," I hurriedly blurt out. Anything was better than being by myself. I was lonely, and the thought of this small wolf leaving was enough to send me spiraling. I needed a friend, and even though she didn't look much older than 17, I could find out some information from her. "I'm Kat," I say, offering a brilliant smile. She seemed anxious at first, casting a look around the garden. Then, she relaxes and offers me a mischievous smile. "I heard all about you from Omega Tara. I'm Olivia. Alpha Elias is my brother," she says, laughing at my startled look. "He doesn't mention me; Eli and I have different views on the world." Now that she mentioned it, it was hard to miss the similarities between her and her brother, the same black ebony hair she wore in long braids down her back. Her eyes were owlish, almost too big for her face. Yet, they were still the same shade of startling green. Her skin, however, was pale. She looked more like a doll than a real person. "No, he didn't mention you. But how could he? I haven't seen him in weeks. I haven't seen any male wolves in a week." I ponder, thinking about all the people I have passed. She tips her head to the side in confusion before she answers. "He didn't tell you? They went to fight your old pack." "What?" I snap, and my heart slams painfully hard in my chest. "How DARE he?!" I shift, taking off running, my blood pounding in my ears. I couldn't believe that they were out fighting a war without me. That pack had been my family for years, and he storms into my life, causing so much mayhem. I hated him. I hated him for all of it. After what seems like hours, I finally catch the masculine scent of Elias. I push myself harder than I had ever before and slam myself into a solid mass of muscle. A dark black wolf snarls at me as I reposition myself to look at him. Elias' wolf was an impressive specimen, his emerald green eyes were coated with malicious, and they were looking straight at me. More wolves flank from every direction. Some look at me, and some shift nervous glances at Elias. Elias snarls at me again, and I send my own right back at him. I might not win this battle, but I sure as hell wasn't backing down. He offers me a view of a mouthful of canines; he puffs up, showing me the full view of his impressive height. I know what he's telling me. Back down. I block out every emotion I can and bare my teeth at Elias. He lunges at me, and I sidestep him, taking a swipe at him with my claws. He did not like this. His wolf connects to mine, and he snarls, "Back off." "f**k you." I snarl, and he growls, tackling me to the ground. Before I can react, he grabs the scruff of my neck, paralyzing me. My wolf whines in annoyance; her whimpers are pitiful to my ears. Then, almost immediately after hearing my whimpers, he lets go. Maybe the mate pull did affect him after all. I shake my coat off before once again baring my teeth at him. Finally, something snaps in his eyes, and he's full Alpha. My wolf wasn't stupid; her tail immediately fell between her legs, and her ears settled flat against her head. "No," I scream, but she doesn't listen. She had one thing on her mind. She must submit to her Alpha. She scoots on her belly, propelling herself at Elias. He growls in warning, and she flips her stomach up, completely surrendering to the dominant wolf. The crowd of wolves is quiet as Elias shifts, and he looks pissed. "Shift," he growls at me, his green eyes staring forward, unseeing. Humiliation creeps in as I realize I have no choice but to listen. Kit falls back, and I once again regain control of my body. Before I can shift, Elias disappears into one of the many tents posted in the woods, returning with a hoody and a pair of sweatpants. His voice drops dangerously low as he gets closer to me, barely a whisper. "Go to the tent, shift, and then you get your ass out here and explain yourself." Oh, I was going to explain myself, alright! He wasn't going to hear the end of it. How dare he! I head into the tent, my wolf small enough to duck under the flap with no trouble. An identical set of clothes sit on a small cot. I shift and pull them on before I march out of the tent. Immediately, I notice Elias is sitting by the fire, his men nowhere in sight.
