“I’m so excited to finally leave school”. Here I am with a colleague of mine talking about what we would do when we graduate from University.

“So Zoey what are you doing after your graduation? Are you getting a job at your brother’s company or are you starting your own company?”

“I’m not doing either of those Thea”. “What? Why not?”

“Thea I’m not going to use my brother’s hard work to get an easy way out. Besides I’m not ready for the responsibility of owning a company. Anyways enough about me, what about you? What would you do?”

“I understand. I forgot to tell you, I got a job in Long Enterprise”. Thea said with excitement. “Really? I’m so happy for you”.

“Thank you so much, but my news isn’t as interesting as your little getaway with your fiancé”, she said with a teasing smile.

Next week will be my fiancé and I’s anniversary and I plan on surprising him by buying tickets to Florence, Italy because he always wanted to go there.

“Shut up Thea”, I blushed thinking about it. “Zoey you look like a tomato”. “Stop it, I haven’t even told him yet”, I said embarrassed.

“Wait... so you didn’t tell your fiancé that you brought tickets to Italy?!” “No, I forgot”, I said sheepishly. “Girl I’m tired of your short memory. Go tell your man. Go!” “Ok bye”.

I got into my car and drove to Christian’s house. I arrived at Christian’s house and heard loud music. “That’s strange”, I whispered to myself. Walking to the front door, I realised the door was opened.

“How many times would I tell this man to lock his door?”, I asked myself. I walked to the direction of his room. I heard moans and groans.

“No no no no no, he didn’t”. I opened the door and I saw him on top of someone. The person has red hair and I’m hoping it is a doll. I bust the door opened and he was shocked.

“Well isn’t this interesting?” “Baby it’s not what it looks like”. “What does it look like? To me, it looks like you guys were having fun making babies. I’m curious to see the face of the other woman unless you are gay now”. “Baby I’m not ga-“. “Don’t talk to me”. I looked at the face of the woman and saw the familiar face. My close friend Jenna. “Well I was expecting a man’s face and saw worse”. I turned and faced Christian, “Seriously? Of all people in this world, Jenna? Really?”

“What was I suppose to do? You weren’t giving me attention anymore. You spent half your time doing something else and use the lame excuse of not giving me what I want until after marriage. Besides you gained weight and I-“. I saw that crazy witch, Jenna smirk like she won a trophy.

“Wait a minute, are you saying that it is my fault that you cheated because I gained weight? What happened to I love you no matter your size? I’m sorry for spending all my time trying to surprise you by buying plane tickets to Italy for our anniversary but thanks for helping me save my time, I don't need people like you in my life. In case you don’t understand me, we are done”.

I said while leaving the room. “Baby wait”. I felt something grab my arm, I slapped it away and yelled, “Don’t touch me, only God knows where those hands have been”. I finally got into my car and locked it to prevent a huge germ from entering.

“Baby baby I love you”, Christian said while knocking on my car window. Getting tired of hearing his voice, I drove off. I'm still trying to process everything, when I heard my phone ring. Mu mom's calling, “Hey baby, How are you?” Hearing my mom's voice, I couldn't hold the water works anymore, “Mum”, I said while sobbing.

Without seeing her face, I knew my mom was alarmed. “What’s wrong Zoey? Are you ok? Where are you? Richard!”. “Mom, Christian’s cheating on me with Jenna”. That’s when hell broke lose. “Mother******”, I heard three voices, My dad and big brothers. Oh Lord!

I caught my fiancé, Christian, who I dated for five years and was engaged to for six months sleeping with my ex- friend, Jenna.

I was hurt and I felt betrayed but it made sense now, all the secret glancing, always with his phone, she blushing when she sees him, touching each other, sitting beside each other when we had a hangout with our friends, going out of the room to receive a call.

When I confronted him about it, he denied it and swore he would never cheat and I still believed him because I loved him now, I look like a fool. The worse part is that they have been together for a year. I still question why he proposed to me when he was in love with Jenna.

When I asked him why he cheated, he put the blame on me and used my insecurity against me by calling me fat because I’m not as skinny as Jenna.

I felt very hurt and hated my body more, I stopped eating to lose weight. Although Mina says I have a curvy and sexy body, I don’t believe her.

My parents and brothers were so mad when they found out, mom and I had to lock dad in the house to prevent him from killing him because that’s animal abuse. Unfortunately for Christian, I couldn’t lock my brothers. Let’s just say, he is still in the hospital receiving treatment. Mom became more protective because of the pain I went through that period. I know it broke her heart to see me ignoring my health and I think mama and papa bear increased their standard of a husband for me, poor man.

Mom didn’t want me to go to Italy, I was thinking about cancelling my tickets but I found out that Mina would fly the plane the day of my departure, that means my best friend would be with me in Italy. It took a lot of convincing from Mini to get me to agree on the trip. To encourage me, she said I should view this travel as a moment of escape and try something new with her.

“Mini I don’t want to talk about him, I just want to enjoy this trip please”. “Ok I wouldn’t say his name, but the next time we see him or Jenna, don’t stop me from hitting them”.

“Girl...you can’t fight to save your life, your ass is too lazy”. “Excuse me? I’m a black belt in taekwondo and do you know what that means? It means I can kick their ass and why are you laughing?”

“I’m laughing because I find that hard to believe”. “Zozo, you are lucky I love you. If I didn’t, I would have hurt you”.

“Awwn I love you too girl but you’re still an i***t. Anyways, if you are looking for a new man, I got some handsome, young cousins you can dat-“

At this point, I didn’t want to hear her matchmaker me with her cousins, so I put my air pods on and she didn’t notice until.

“Zoey are you listening to me?! Girl I know you aren’t listening to music right now. Zoey!”

I removed the air pods from my ear or this woman would keep screaming till she has my attention.

“Jeez woman I’m listening to you”. “Finally. Like I was saying, I have some hot cousins you can date to forget your ex. I might even set you up for a blind date”.

“Mina No”.

“Why not? You need to get over that jerk”. “Mina I’m not ready to be out there yet”.

“I would let this go for now but as soon as we are back from Italy, you are going on blind dates”.

My phone rings but I decline the call. “Why didn’t you pick?” “It’s Jenna”. “Why is she calling you?” “To brag that she got Christian”.

“How do you know this? Has she been calling you?” “Yes”. “Since when?” “Since the day I caught them”.

“Why didn’t you block her? Why didn’t you tell me? Did you at least block Christian?”

“No, I haven’t blocked them and I’m not planning to block them. I didn’t tell you because it’s not important, they are not important”.

“Why aren’t you blocking them? They deserve it” “As a reminder that I shouldn’t fall in love with just anyone especially little boys and can we please not mention them?”

“Fine, do what you want to do. Whatever you do, I have your back”. “Thank you. I really appreciate it”.

I wanted to say something but Mina announced our arrival to the airport.

“We are here Zoey. Are you ready for a new adventure?” “Girl just park the car and let’s go”. We got there very early so I spent my time in the supermarket and reading novels. I did all that was needed and got to the plane.

After searching for my seat, I got myself comfortable and prepared for a new adventure.

“Welcome on board. This is the Captain, Mina Kim speaking and I have some information about our flight. Our flight time today will be 2am and our estimated time of arrival in Florence, Italy is 12am. Please seat back, relax and enjoy the flight because you are in safe hands.

Do have a nice flight and before I forget, I want to greet my best friend who is on this plane with us. It took a lot of convincing to get her on the plane I’m flying. Do me a favour please? Tell the lady on seat 15A to smile, she is pretty when she does. Her name is Zoey by the way and thank you for choosing American Airlines ”.

My eyes widened in shock. Trust Mina to say something to embarrass me. I felt awkward as people turned to smile and wave at me. Not to seem rude, I smiled and whispered thank you. I would kill Mina when this flight ends.

After that short stunt Mina pulled, I got ready for the plane to take off, I hate this part of flying. Using my air pods, I closed my eyes whispering, “Goodbye for now, Ohio”.
