ARC 1.5 : Onnell Maxwell

Two weeks had passed since that coincidence met up with Onnell at Roland's school. Now that young man who is a one-year senior at her school is totally attached to her like glue, at first a lot of students were in uproar when, suddenly the famous cold and aloof young man, is following a certain beauty which, finally, they know as the Knights family's daughter first miss, they start to see this two as a perfect couple and this supposed perfect couple right now is...

"Nell, I'm trying to finish my assignment. Could you please stop looking inside my bag. I told you our lunch is not in there!" Elis looked at Onnell who was now looking inside her bag like a lost puppy. Onnell looked at Elis, who was frowning right now, and in her hand were a few notes as well as a few books in front of her. Who ever thought a beauty like her was really serious in her studies?

Onnell raised his hand slowly, and carefully he rubbed the wrinkle between Elis's brows. He really doesn't like to see her frowning or sad. The only thing he really likes to see is her smile.

Elis couldn't help but sigh, she reached Onnell's hand and rubbed it a little before she let go. Who could think that this second male is a clingy person? Two weeks. These two weeks were like she and him were chained together. You could say that where she was, Onnell could be found beside her and where he was she could be found beside him. She felt that she was his guardian!

"Did you cook it?" Onnell asked. He placed his chin on his palm while looking at Elis. His black eyes were following every move she made.

"Yes, yes... I cook it. It's homemade." Elis rolled her eyes. Her hand was already starting to clean her things, her little note was placed inside her notebook. If only she had known that Onnell would ask about her homemade food and love it, she probably hadn't given him a taste before, and now he keeps pestering her asking about food and this i***t knows whether she cooked it or buys it. Does he have a dog's tongue?

Onnell's eyes glinted, his cold face suddenly smiled as he looked towards the beauty in front of him. He doesn't know what he feels right now, but he feels extremely happy.

"Happy." He said slowly, even so Elis heard it loud and clear. Elis shook her head. She stood up and Onnell followed her afterward. The two of them didn't talk much, but somehow, when people saw these two, they felt that the two of them belonged to each other.

At first, a lot of the girls didn't agree about their relationship, but when they see how Onnell treat her and how she treats him, slowly they accept that the two of them were perfect for each other beside they could see how Elis dotted on him and Onnell didn't reject her like other people.

Late that night, the Knights house was lively as the Osmond's family had come to visit the Knights house. Elis arrived with her little brother just to meet with Rayner Osmond the male lead of this world. Elis had to admit that he was a fine and handsome young man, but he looked so cold and distant. Even though he sat on the chair and alone, Elis couldn't deny that his aura was amazing, and this man is the one who the original body fell in love with, her supposed-to-be fiancé.

"Oh dear, is that who I think it is?" Mrs Osmond jumped up from her seat and dashed towards Elis and Roland. She scrutinized her from up to bottom and couldn't help but think that this girl in front of her was a beauty and to add that this beauty was also one of the top students in school. Her son is so lucky to have her as his fiancé!

"Hello auntie." Elis greeted her and Mrs Osmond immediately enveloped her in a hug. She already loves this young girl. Pity though, her friend never managed to see her grown-up daughter.

"Hello dear." Mrs Osmond greeted her back as she pulled Elis towards the living room. Leaving Roland with a frown on his face. He looked at Rayner, and he could feel a bad premonition inside his heart. Since he knew about this man, he didn't like him a bit. So, without anyone noticing, he makes a plan for his sister.

"Hello uncle, hello father, hello Mr Osmond." Elis greeted them all, and this time all of them looked at Elis and were somehow shocked when they heard what she had just said. All of them know that Elis loves Rayner since she knows what love is, and the way she calls him would be so soft and melodious, but this time not only did she call him in a formal way, her voice also didn't hold any other meaning but none other than a business kind of manner.

Rayner, who had been used to being called by her sweet little voice for the first time in his life, looked up and looked at Elis with a lot of questions in his mind. He used to ignore her existence, but this time he was shocked silly to see her. She was not the girl who looked shy in front of him or timid, but this time she looked cold and aloof, there was no warmth in her eyes... no, that's wrong. There was no emotion on her face whatsoever. Rayner frowned a little as he could feel something stir in his heart.

"*Cough* I leave the two of you to talk." Osmond Knights stood up and, followed by the Osmond's pair, they walked towards the dining room, leaving the two people inside the living room. Elis sighed a little.

"Please serve us tea and coffee. No sugar." Elis asked the maid and the maid nodded and left to do her job. Rayner didn't say anything but one thing for sure, Elis knew about his preferences.

"I have a favor to ask." Elis, who was in silence for a long time, finally spoke after the maid delivered their drinks. Rayner looked at her. He nods.

"You know that the two of us were betrothed since we were a little kid, but we also know that you don't have any feeling towards me, so..." Elis stopped as she looked at Rayner, she try to read his emotion, but she didn't see any. "We should cancel our engagement." She continued as she looked straight into his green eyes.

This time Rayner jerked a bit, he looked at Elis and this time he really-really looked at her. He knows that this girl loves him, and she would do anything to get his attention, but what happens? Why the sudden talk about canceling the engagement? He knows that he didn't see her as a worthy girl that would be beside him, but he still cannot accept that the girl who he had known since they were little kid suddenly changed.

"Are you trying to get my attention? If you are, congratulations, you did." Rayner said slowly. Elis was a bit dumbfounded, she looked at Rayner with disbelief, and soon she giggled a little. She really couldn't understand what this male lead was thinking about.

"Mr Osmond, please don't think that this world only revolves around you," Elis replied to him slowly. Rayner frowned a bit. His heart started to shake. Never did people ever talk like this to him before.

"Then what's with this sudden change?"

Elis was silent for a moment, she looked at Rayner, and somehow she felt pity for the original body. She loves him, but he never loves her back. What's worse, he even hated her.

"I don't want to be like my mother."

Hearing this answer, Rayner couldn't refute her words anymore, as he knew all the inside story of the Knights family including her mother's suicide. He closed his eyes, he admitted he didn't love her as a lover, but he did care about her like brother and sister should be, but this request...

"I won't press this matter any longer, but this is my first and last request as your fiancé, I do love you, but I don't want to gamble my life just to wait for you to love me back." Elis smiled at him, she sipped her tea slowly and wait for his answer, but he never reply her. When Elis didn't hear any answer she smiled even more. "Besides, I found someone who loves me for who I am." Elis stood up, she smoothened her skirt and walked away, she didn't even bother to wait for his answer because she could see all of his facial reaction when she said the latter.

After that talk, the two families ate in the dining room. Even though Mrs Osmond talked and made some jokes, they could all feel Rayner's mood was very down, and they could feel a blizzard coming from him. As for Elis, she was warm, and she served Roland like a mother, she spoiled him to the brim, and she didn't even look at Rayner, who she noticed kept gazing at her.

Feeling that the two couples were at odds, they left the two of them once again to settle their problem. This time Mrs Osmond pushed them towards the garden to give the couple more time alone, but for Elis, this was like walking with the devil as she could feel Rayner's mood was very bad. She couldn't understand why this male lead like this.

"Why?" He asked once again. He still didn't believe what Elis had told him before. Elis halted her step and looked at him. He was handsome, really suited with his title as the male lead but with his character, she couldn't even accept it.

"I stopped loving you when I noticed you didn't even care about my feelings and I learned my lesson from my mother. She sacrifice everything for my father, but what did she get? A husband who cheated on her for his past lover. You, too, were well aware of our family situation, but at least you grew up with a loving family, and you wouldn't understand what my brother and I face in our family." Elis walked again and sighed.

"If we do get married, I don't want my children to go through what we've been through. What I and Roland have been through!"

With that, she left Rayner alone in the garden to think about it. She really hoped that the male lead would agree with the annulment of their engagement.
