It's been almost two months and Natasha hadn't heard a word from Tyler.
She had given up trying to reach him by phone.
No one answers anyway and she got tired of leaving messages.
There's only one week to go before Natasha's birthday and she was not looking forward to it.
There will be a full moon two days after and her aunt hadn't finished explaining what this big change will be for her.
She had vaguely told her something about changing on the full moon but Tasha wasn't exactly sure what that meant.
She was beginning to wonder though, because she had noticed that her skin was becoming itchy and her hair had gotten a lot longer and shinier in a very short time span.
Tasha picked up her cellphone and dialed her aunt.
"Tasha baby! How have you been?" came her aunt's cheerful voice through the phone. " I've been great. How are things with you?"
"I'm good but I get bored sometimes." replied her aunt.
"I know where this is going Aunt Anna. No. I don't want you to work. You are getting old plus you are sick." said Tasha firmly.
"But I can do something simple." her aunt protested.
"Do you need money? I will send you some tomorrow."
" I don't need money baby girl. You send me more than I can spend every week." Aunt Anna replied.
" Is Jenny taking good care of you?" asked Tasha. "Jenny is a good companion but I take care of myself. I'm old, not disabled." Aunt Anna said. Natasha laughed. "Whatever you say ma'am.
"How's Canada?" asked her aunt, changing the subject.
"It's getting cold." replied Natasha.
"Soon you won't have to worry about that." said her aunt.
"Aunt Anna, please tell me more about the change." begged Tasha. " You've been so vague and it's almost time." she added.
There was a long silence on the other end of the line, then came a sigh and Aunt Anna began to speak.
"When your parents left us ten years ago, they weren't going on just any trip. They were elders and there was a war going on between their kind and another set of...uh...beings."
"Wait, what do you mean their kind? And what other set of beings?" Natasha interrupted.
Her aunt sucked in a breath and replied slowly. " Listen to the story baby girl. You will understand everything in the end." Then she continued.
"Everyone was fighting for power and they were doing it in plain sight, threatening to expose each other to the human race.
Your parents were called to go and quell the war.
It was agreed upon that they would meet in the Sahara Desert one night to finish this battle.
On the night in question, they were ambushed and slaughtered by the Ventrue Stalkers. No one survived."
A confused Natasha listened quietly on the line. Aunt Anna paused again for a while then she went on.
"Your parents died that night trying to save their pack. Trying to save you."
"What does all this mean ?" asked Tasha.
Aunt Anna replied " Michael and Nora Simms were Alpha and Luna to the Silver Striders pack. The largest and only living pack of werewolves at that time.
They were supposedly made extinct by the Ventrue Stalkers. They are the only Vampire clan that is around to this day."
Natasha felt light headed. She rushed to sit down as her legs started buckling beneath her.
"My parents were werewolves?" she asked in a shaky voice.
"Yes they were." replied her aunt.
"So that's what you meant by " change"." Tasha realized then she exclaimed "But I can't be a werewolf! I've never even had a change! "
"You, baby girl, are not just any werewolf. You are a hybrid, a lycan. And the last of your kind.
Your first change will come on the first night of the next full moon. After that, you will be able to shift anytime you want."
Natasha was starting to feel sick. She went into the kitchen to pour herself a glass of water.
Aunt Anna, why didn't you tell me this before?" Questioned Tasha.
"Your parents knew that they might not make it back so they made me promise to tell you but not before now.
I'm not your real aunt. I'm a human.
I've been assigned by your parents to take care of you since you were a baby.
They chose to hide you in plain sight should anything happen to them.
It was the only way to ensure your safety."
Natasha felt nauseous.
"Aunt Anna, I'll have to call you back."
She quickly hang up and rushed to the bathroom.
After throwing up everything she ate at breakfast, Natasha took a shower and went to lay down on the couch.
Everything that her aunt told her was floating around in her head.
Before today she thought that werewolves and vampires were myths. Now, not only are they real, she is one of them.
She grabbed her coat and went out the door, deciding that she had to take a walk to clear her head.
The wind was frosty and Tasha pulled the coat closer to her body.
She walked for almost an hour before she decided to turn back.
On her way, she stopped at a restaurant near the mall.
As soon as she finished eating she felt nauseous again. She rushed to the restroom to throw up.
Thinking that she may be experiencing food poisoning, she decided to visit her doctor. He was a seven minute walk from where she was now.
When she got to his office, Dr Reid was just walking a patient out.
"Natasha! It's good to see you." he said smiling. Dr Reid has been her general practioner since she started living in Canada.
Natasha greeted him and explained her symptoms.
He took her to the examination room and checked her vital signs.
When he was finished, he took a blood sample from her and asked her to wait for the results.
When he returned to the room he explained to Natasha that the symptoms she was experiencing wasn't that of food poisoning at all.
Then he said to her "Congratulations Natasha. You are seven weeks pregnant!"
