It’s been five days, five VERY LONG and TIRING (Trying?) days! Sheara was beyond frustrated. Not only have they been in the room for the entire five days, but even when Aria visited, she was quiet, not saying a word. Darius must have gotten to her after their previous talk. Five whole days, just her and the two children. No one to chat to and nothing to take her mind of her situation.
Thankfully, Rudi was doing better. Under Aria’s vigilant care and the medicine, he seems to be his usual, boisterous self. For that Sheara was truly grateful, but it felt like she was suffocating, unable to breath and unable to do anything but sit on her bed and talk with the children. Collin would bring them food and drink, Aria brought them clothes, but it still drove her nuts being unable to DO something, ANYTHING, other than just sitting around.
Some nights she could hear music from the piano filling the air from the study, but she was unsure of who was playing. Was it Darius, or maybe some lady friend that visited? For some unknown reason, just the thought of that, had her heart feeling constricted in her chest. Maybe it was just the frustration speaking? She barely knew the man, and the times they have spoken he was so rude!
And to top it all off, the kids had WAY too much energy, being cooped up in a small room, even with toys, was never good for children. They needed to be able to run and play, get stimulation, learn and explore. They were driving her up the wall with all their boisterous yells and playful screams filling the room.
Finally, unable to take it anymore, she walked out the doors onto the steps again. Standing with a cup of coffee in her hands, she stared out to the sea, watching the sun set and letting the calm from the waves crashing onto the beach, wash over her. When she suddenly felt the feeling of sparks traveling up her arms.
Darius himself, also couldn’t take it anymore. The knowledge that his mate was in the same house as him, was driving his dragon wild. Not even keeping her locked in a room or flights over the ocean could calm him anymore. He wanted, no NEEDED to have contact with her, to be able to speak with her.
Coming back from another flight in the late afternoon sun, walking up the sand, he stopped. He could smell her, his senses heightened from being unable to see, his dragon would come forth to assist him regularly. Finally, unable to help himself he walked over to where she stood, just to stand close behind her, as close as possible without physically touching her. Then he spoke, softly, mouth just above her ear, wanting to taste it but not daring to just yet.
“I’ve been informed that I owe you an apology.”
The sound of his whispering voice and the feeling of his breath against her hair, sends not only sparks, but goose bumps and shivers of delight through her body. And then she was WET, undeniable and explainable so.
Feeling embarrassed by her sudden wantonness, she took a few steps back, trying to put a bit of distance between their bodies. Forgetting about the steps behind her, Sheara lost her balance, when a strong arm wrapped around her waist, grabbing her and pulling her roughly against his body to prevent her fall.
With a hiss of surprise at the sudden, unexpected contact and her aroma of arousal filling his head, Darius took a step back as well. Letting her go as soon as he dared. Then with a tenderness that she didn’t expect, he softly lifted his hand and brushed the few lose strands of her wonderful, dark auburn her from her face.
“And there you go again, making trouble for me, almost getting yourself hurt.” His voice, still ever so soft as he whispers, with an almost playful smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
Surprise flitted over her face; she didn’t expect such gentleness from him. O gosh, he was so gorgeous, so perfect!
“I’m sorry” blushing and feeling confused, but only for a moment, before her natural fighting instincts kick in again. “But for that matter what ARE you doing on the steps to my room?”
“Need I remind you that this is in fact my house? But no, I didn’t come here to fight, only to talk. What do you say about a walk, us together, on the beach?”
Surprised she looks up at him, he is so much taller than her mere 5,1 inches, searching for something there. “I don’t usually go out after dark…”
“O Really, why not? I promise, I’m much more dangerous than anything else out there.” The playful, huskiness was back in his voice, but then he heard her heart rate increase and her aroma changed from aroused to that of adrenaline. “What have gotten you so scared?”
“The dark…” her voice so soft, that even with his increased hearing he can barely make out her voice.
Softly cupping her cheek, he bends his head down to her level, his dragon roaring once more to come out and protect their mate. Feeling himself losing control, he closes his eyes tightly before stepping away, and without a word further, he left.
Sheara was left staring after him, feeling something akin to loss. Finally, as the darkness took over, she stepped back into the house. The children had put themselves to bed and fallen asleep while she was on the steps with Darius. Looking around the room, her eyes fell onto something new next to the bed she sleeps in, a book. Surprised, she picks it up, noticing that it’s one of her all-time favorite writers. She curls up on the bed to start reading, when a sad melody from the piano starts seeping into her room.
After a few minutes, she makes a split moment decision, and picking up her book, with her feet naked on the carpet, softly walked out towards the study.
Entering the door, she first notices that no lights was on, before her eyes settled on Darius’s back in front of the piano. A slight break in the notes is the only sign that he had noticed her entrance. When he didn’t seem to object, she walked across the floor to settle in the chair behind his desk. Leaving the lights off, she put the book on the table before curling her feet underneath her. The last thing she remembers is the feeling of sparks spreading across her skin and something, almost like a kiss, on her forehead and a blanket on her cold skin, before she drifted off to sleep.
How much later she never could remember after that, but she felt two hands lifting her and a soft bed welcoming her presence.
