Chapter 8 - The Rising Sun. Reaper is the first to wake and notice Cammie's legs over on top of his with her body curled up laying on his chest. He looks to his left and sees Typhlosion sprawled out on the table with the little Magby laying on his belly curled into a ball. He looks over to his right to see Alakazam floating in the air with his legs crossed still mega evolved and his spoons orbiting around him, “how in the world do you sleep like that buddy?" He chuckles quietly. He reaches up to scratch his head and realizes his hat is missing, “oh yeah, Zoroark has my hat on...I wonder where you got off to?" His eyes wander around the seemingly empty lobby feeling a bit of loneliness for some reason, as if a part of him is missing. He very carefully moves Cammie's legs, sets her to the side trying not to wake her, and stands up out of the booth. He walks around the center searching for Zoroark while starting to get desperate, “alright Zoroark it's not fun if you don't give me a hint!" He laughs uneasily. The nurse behind the counter puts her hands up and shrugs when he looks at her. He starts to worry a bit more and walks outside. As he passes through the doorway, the sunlight harshly blinds him having just peaked over the trees of the horizon. He looks around frantically for Zoroark, around the vicinity, above all the buildings, around the skyline, and even the nearby surrounding trees, “ZOOORRROOOAAARRRKKK!!!!!!" He yells feeling scared, worried, and frantic for the safety of his pal. Meanwhile in Sootopolis, the group of men carrying Zoroark inside of a barred cage are laughing hardily, “stupid Pokémon, you can't teleport, you can't blast your way out, and you can't fly out. The more you try, the more it shocks you. So just stop resisting,” one of the men says, and Zoroark tries its hardest to focus all of its energy on the cage, but is unable to budge it a single bit. It stops for a moment as if to hear its name, "Zor?!" It reacts looking in the direction of Fortree. One of the grunts looks down at Zoroark and jabs it with an electric prod, "shut up stupid Pokémon. Nobody's coming to save you,” he pokes Zoroark again, and it calms down. Zoroark closes its eyes and focuses on Reaper's voice calling out to it. Its eyes start to glow as it opens them... Reaper feels a sense of calm, then worry all over again as he starts to lift off of the ground, his eyes start glowing, and he closes them. He is able to see sheer white rock, a barred cage, a bunch of guys walking in unison towards a hole in the rim of the big crater looking rim. He can hear Wailmer bellowing, Wingulls and Pelippers cawing, and a bunch of inaudible voices. He opens his eyes and his focus tightens severely as his body drifts back down to the ground, then he runs inside the Pokémon center. He looks over and notices that Cammie and his Pokémon are just now waking up and stretching, “Zoroark has been Pokénapped,” Reaper informs them, and Typhlosion instantly snaps into a furious rage as his entire back lights up in a frightening blaze of fiery fury. Alakazam seems to keep his zen composure, but starts glowing a deep purple, then he opens his eyes, puts his feet down, the mega evolution wears off, and he stops glowing. Cammie and Maggie both look worried and helpless, "I'm so sorry Reaper, I don't know what happened, we must have been asleep..." "I know where Zoroark is, and I'm gonna get my buddy back no matter what!" Reaper interrupts her with his voice full of nothing but sheer rage. Cammie looks frightened from Reaper's reaction, almost speechless, "ok Reaper calm down hun, how do you know where Zoroark is?" She asks, and he takes a deep breath before walking to the table and sitting down with his hands covering his face. "I was outside and I had a vision, I think Zoroark was showing me where it was, I think it heard me calling out,” Reaper replies, and Cammie walks over, sits down next to him, and starts brushing his hair back with her left hand running her fingers through his hair. "Please, just focus on my voice, everything will work out. We will find Zoroark, and when we do, we will make sure those people never try to hurt anyone again okay? First things first. We need to get our bearings and have a bite to eat, then we will have to get you some training and you're gonna have to get stronger so that you're prepared for the big fight. Let me go get some food ready I'll be back shortly,” Cammie attempts to encourage him, then she stands up, walks into the back of the Pokémon center, and starts preparing breakfast. Reaper stands up, looks at Typhlosion, and puts his left hand on his head, “come on buddy, I know it's hard to think about, but Zoroark is still alive, so we need to get really strong before we can go get it,” he turns to Alakazam and tries to smile, the look on Reaper's deformed face from a failed attempt at smiling makes Alakazam laugh, "what?! I was just trying to smile to let you know that I'm okay and ready to get stronger with you guys..." he looks at Typhlosion with the same broken expression and Typhlosion busts out laughing as well. Reaper walks over to a mirror close to the front counter and notices his face looks very funny and laughs a little. He looks over to his two Pokémon, “okay I get it, my face is pretty funny..." he notices both Typhlosion and Alakazam are making the same face he was and he busts out laughing. He runs over to them and they all three take turns making funny faces at each other while laughing hysterically. Cammie walks out with a tray full of food and notices the three boys have cheered up and are making faces at each other. She cannot help but laugh as well as she walks over to the table, sits the food down, and makes a funny face of her own. They all dig into the food still making faces and laughing. Once the food is gone Reaper stands up, walks over to the counter, and takes one of the black handkerchiefs. He stretches it out, folds it into a triangle, and ties it on his head, "I'm coming for you Zoroark. You just wait buddy, please be patient for me,” he walks back over to the table, "I'm ready to head out, what about you guys?" Typhlosion takes a big gulp and nods, "tyyyyyy!" Alakazam looks up and nods as well, "zam!" Reaper grabs his bag off the floor, straps it on tight, and offers a hand to Cammie in a gentleman fashion of helping her stand, “I'm gonna head out and get stronger, where should I go from here?" Reaper asks causing Cammie’s expression to change from excitement to dismay in an instant. "I...I...I thought that...I could come with you…” Cammie says in a questioning manner, which surprises Reaper, then he looks at his Pokémon, and they both nodded in agreement. "Well, the guys seem to like you so I guess you can if that's what you want,” he shrugs to play it off cool, but on the inside he is thrilled to have another person to travel with, especially a pretty girl, and it causes her face to light up as she squeals, then she jumps over and hugs reaper with her left foot popped up. "Thank you! Just let me grab some things I'll be right back," she pulls back, looks Reaper in the eyes, then she looks down at his mouth and closes her eyes. Her head drifts slowly forward until her lips meets his, then she pulls away very quickly blushing harshly. She smiles and lets him go before running to the back. Reaper walks outside and stretches vigorously as if he just woke up. The town is bustling about and he can hear Pokémon battling nearby. He looks over to the east and tries to peak through the trees hoping to see what is happening, but he cannot see anything. He holds out his Pokéballs and returns his two Pokémon, then he proceeds to climb up the south ladder until he reaches the first hut and starts walking across the rope plank bridge. He looks down at the gym and notices some people battling outside the gym. Meanwhile, Cammie walks out of the center and looks around, "Reaper?" Her face changes from a gleeful smile to a depression deep in her body, "I thought we were gonna go togeth..." the sound of Pokémon fighting interrupts her, so she looks over towards the sound attempting to peek through the trees, but she cannot see anything. She looks over to the north ladder, climbs up it, reaches the hut, and turns around. She notices Reaper sitting on the edge of the bridge face down watching the Pokémon and their trainers battling. There are two kids around six or seven years old, one with a Happiny, and the other with a Cubone; there are two teenagers around seventeen to nineteen years old, one with a Hitmontop, and the other with a Sawk; the little girl and female ace trainer are on one side while the boys are on the opposite side. It almost looks like they are having a double battle, as close as they were. Reaper looks up, sees Cammie, waves at her, and points down to the gym, then they both walk across the bridges and down to the gym. Cammie is standing at the edge of the gym when Reaper finally arrives. He stands next to her watching the battles, "I can't tell if they're seriously battling or training,” he mentions pointing out that they are giving it their all. Cammie looks at him with an odd expression, “do you and your Pokémon not put heart and soul into battling, whether it be training or not?" He looks at her with a confused look of sympathy, "well not during training no...I don't want them to really hurt themselves. I'd feel bad after,” he replies causing her to laugh a little, then she grabs his right hand with her left, interlocks their fingers, and begins walking around the small battlefield pulling him along slightly. “You see how the children are happy and smiling, so are their Pokémon,” she points at the kids and their Pokémon, “their Pokémon are reacting in battle as their trainers do. If the trainer is happy and enjoying themselves, so are the Pokémon. See?! Watch how the little girl handles her Cubone..." The little girl jumps up and happily shouts, "let's go Cubone! You got this buddy! Bonemerang! Yay!" The Cubone gleefully jumps into the air smiling and twirls with grace and finesse before hurling its bone in a boomerang fashion, then as the bone returns spinning back, the Cubone lands in the superhero three point pose, and catches the bone before standing up and bowing respectfully, “do you see how they worked together with no hesitation?" Reaper's face is stone. His astonishment is only matched by his quivering speech, "that was beautiful, how? What's the secret?!" He asks thinking that he already had the best relationships with his Pokémon, so what exactly has he been doing wrong. Cammie laughs and tugs him forward more so to the other side of the small courtyard closer to the teenagers. "Now you see the ace trainer there, the older boy? See his determination and focused look? Now check out the Hitmontop...see how its look matches its trainer?" Cammie points out, to which Reaper stands speechless, "now watch this next attack..." the ace trainer tightens his gloves up and takes a fighting stance. "Ok Hitmontop, it's time for the finisher, you ready sport? I've got faith in you, you've got this,” the male ace trainer says, and the hitmontop nods its head in full agreement, “alright, use bounce!" The Hitmontop jumps up, spins in the air like a twister, lands on the spike of its head, spins violently towards the Sawk, and grabs it in the blink of an eye with a furious grip. Still spinning, it lunges into the air with a mighty leap, they disappear into the sky, and come crashing down with the force of a meteor. It jumps back in retaliation and the Sawk lays there knocked out. Cammie looks at reaper, “normally Hitmontop wouldn't have been able to pull off that move with such velocity and power, but the bond between it and its trainer made that move so much stronger. Do you get it now?" She asks, and Reaper is still speechless at the raw intensity of the whole situation. "How do I achieve this? I've been on several adventures with my Pokémon. I love them and they love me. What's the difference between them and how I battle? I could see the same thing in the battle I had with Steven and the way his Pokémon behaved," Reaper questions his entire life with Pokémon up to this point. Cammie looks at Reaper with glowing passion, “it's not about 'how' you battle with your Pokémon, it's the way 'you' battle 'together' as 'one'. A single unit. Every move you make the Pokémon follows, every thought you have the Pokémon reads it. Get it?" She explains with great enthusiasm as Reaper looks at all the trainers and their Pokémon, then he looks at Cammie. "I get it but how do I come about achieving this with them? Because like I said I love them and they love me. I even became the champion of the Johto region before coming here. I had no trouble at all until I came here, it's as if people here are closer to their Pokémon than Johto and Kanto," he inquires causing Cammie to think long and hard for a few moments and remembers an old legend that her parents used to tell her. "There is this legend. But all I've ever known it to be is a myth. There are some people who claim to have been there but nobody has ever seen the man..." she recalls, and Reaper's face lights up in a curious amazement. "Please, continue," he nods to her, and she smiles and nods. "Let's go in the gym and sit down with some koko coffee. Then I'll tell you,” she says, then they walk into the gym together, take an immediate left, and make themselves a cup of coffee, “so the legend is that of the Pink Lotus. It's a long line of Pokémon masters. To the northeast of slateport there's an island where an old man lives, they say he is last living member of an ancient group of people who used to live with Pokémon in harmony, they fought together, ate together, trained together, and lived together. It was as if the people and their Pokémon were one with another. It's amazing to think about. But there are trials to even get to the castle. Many have tried seeking training from the man. But either his trials overwhelm them, or he turns them away. There's a legend that says, 'when they who come forth for righteous reason, in the deep of white season, will be blessed with the power, that waterfall shower, in knowledge and wisdom is true, they will come only two.' He waits for them, something about he can't pass on to the next life without first passing on his training. But nobody for 100 years has been able to reach him,” she looks at his bewildered face. He turns to face forward and speaks gently, "My father was a Black Lotus..."
