Act- 3 Chapter- 9 What’s N-side your heart

3617 Words
I wake up on the floor somehow, then I stand up, stretch, and look over at the bed that Leila and the others were sleeping on to notice that Leila is gone. "Hmm...should’ve seen that coming. Guess my luck isn’t as good as I thought. Although it would’ve been nice to have a pretty girl adventuring with me,” I mumble to myself, then I wake my Pokémon up, put my hat on, pick my bag up and get them all in their normal places. I walk out of the room and the nurse on duty walks over to me, hands me a note folded like a heart, shrugs, and walks back to the counter. I stand there for a minute holding the note, "of course..." I sigh smiling before opening the note up and start reading, "I don’t know how we got to the Pokémon center but after going outside and looking at how wet everything was, I’m kinda glad we didn’t get left under that tree!" there is, again, another fold, “I really hope we are able to have another fun day like that sometime soon! Don’t forget to check for something new!" I turn the note over, "this is still not a love letter! Just because you’re cute and you’re trying to be the hero does not mean I like you!" the letter ends abruptly as if she were in a hurry to write it. The note doesn’t smell like Roselia petals or anything this time, instead it smells more like a snuffed candle. I fold the note up and stick it into the journal with the others, then I walk out of the Pokémon center and the sun is already high in the sky. I look around at the town and the few people carrying on about their responsibilities of the day, “well I guess it's about that time to move on to the next city, what do you think guys?" They each nod together in agreement. I smile and walk around the center, walk through the pass of trees into the next route and walk over to a little boy that was running around playing with his Pokémon. He stops suddenly when he catches my eye and walks over to me, “hey mister! You have to battle me now!" I look at the little boy confused, "wait..? What did I do?" He laughs and responds while getting ready for a battle, “when you meet eyes with another trainer you have to battle! It's the rules!" I shrug in disbelief, but I am not going to refuse a friendly battle, so I take a few steps back, "which one of you wants to battle with him?” I ask, and Setsei jumps down off my shoulder running in front of me. "Nee! Bun..." Setsei looks fiercely confident. The little boy sends out his Poochyena, "go Poochyena, use tackle!" It hits me in that moment that I have no idea what any of her moves are, so I quickly reach into my bag, pull out the handheld computer, and open it up. I notice on the front of the device it says, “V-Dex66”, however I think someone put the V on there for me. On the screen when it starts up, it says V-Dex66 and changes to the scanning screen, so I am guessing it is called a V-Dex and the model number is 66. I point it at Setsei and it reads off information about her until it gets to her moves, “aha! Ok, so she knows tackle, charm, and......quick attack. Alright so, Setsei, dodge and then use quick attack.......please!” I give her commands. Setsei turns around and takes 2 steps to my left avoiding the Poochyena by mere inches, the Poochyena stumbles and falls over with a surprised look on its face. Setsei takes off towards it with increasing speed, hits the poochyena with the full force of her attack, and knocks it back about 5 feet. Professor Birch walks up behind me and puts his hand on my shoulder, “what’s this thing you have here?” I hold it up to him and he grabs it, “V-Dex66 huh? Never heard of it...” he turns it over, closes it, opens it, presses some buttons on it, and it displays a hologram, “oho! Ok, so this silver and black piece of gear you’ve got here is probably one of a kind, Viper my man. It’s got the functions of about 10 different devices that we normally have to carry around. It’s a phone, radio, Pokénav, map, gps, Pokédex, holovid, computer, Pokétrainer, and scanner all in one. I would dare say this thing could change the course of history if it had strong enough power! Hahaha! It truly is a marvel of technology. Here you go...” he hands it back to me, “if you’re wondering what all it does you’ll just have to play with it and see. But I like to guess at things, so I’d say if your Pokémon is trying learn a new move or if you wanted to teach it a new move, you could scan the Pokéball it’s in and change the moves around with it. You can search registered Pokémon information on it. Use it to store digital currency in so you don’t have to carry around cash. Since we all use the Pokétrav system anyways, none of us even carry cash anymore. Lastly you would probably want to use it for training your Pokémon, scan them after battle to see how close they are to learning a new move or evolving. Well, I’m gonna leave you to it, you have a battle to finish,” he laughs as he walks towards the next town in a hurry. I look back over to Setsei and look back at the Vdex to choose another move, “Alright use quick attack again!” I say, then before the Poochyena can react, Setsei takes off at full speed and rams into it again. This time she knocks it all the way back toward its trainer and it rolls over fainted. The kid runs over to it and cries, "you big meanie! Why did you have to go and do that?!" I look at the kid in confusion, "you challenged me!...so what was I supposed to do? Let you win? I'm sorry, I thought the point of the battle was to have fun and try to win…” I say in confusion. The kid returns the Poochyena to its Pokéball and runs off crying, then the V-Dex chimes showing that I won a small amount of money from the battle. I look over at Setsei and smile greatly at her, "good job! I'm so proud of you!" She runs over and leaps onto my chest hugging me, I take that reaction as she is proud of me for learning her moves as quick as I did. I wrap my arms around her and hug her. I look forward and continue down the route feeling a bit of pride. I walk through some unkempt grass and up to a ledge when I hear some rustling to my left. I look over to see a blue bowl looking thing is rocking back and forth, “wonder what that is?!" I say quietly to myself. I slowly walk over towards it, in a kind of sneaking motion trying not to spook it. As I get closer I realize that it is a small Pokémon with a bowl shaped head. It's body is pearl white and has a red boomerang looking fin sticking out of its blue head. It looks like it is trying to pull a rock out of the ground. I am able to sneak right next to it and crouch down, “hey little guy, you need some help?" I whisper quietly, and it surprisingly looks up at me as if I had spooked it, then in a second before I can react its eyes light up and it flings me back with a telekinetic power, “ow! I didn't mean to scare you sorry!" Hinoté jumps off my shoulder before I land and challenges the little Pokémon to a battle. I stand up, brush myself off, check Loomy and Setsei to make sure they are are not hurt, and walk over behind Hinoté. I pull out the Vdex and point it at Hinote, "hmm, wow your attack and speed are off the charts, and after every attack you make your speed increases. That's neat. You have Blazing Falcon, peck, quick attack, and sand attack, neat!" I point it over to the other Pokémon and its information lights up with a red star, "oh so you're a Ralts...what's the red star for? Psychic and fairy type. Hmm…" I look at Hinoté and take a stance, “alright Hinote let's do Blazing Falcon!" He charges at the Ralts with blinding speed, but the Ralts teleports out of the way towards my right, then it uses telekinesis to catch Hinoté in midair. I look back down at Hinote as he starts talking to the Ralts, and the Ralts is communicating back and pointing at the grass area around it. Just as soon as I try to figure out what they are saying, a man walks up with mint green hair and a ball cap pulled down over his eyes. "Hey kid, I don't mean to interrupt your battle, but this Ralts is asking your Torchic not to use fire moves out here. It doesn't want any of the grass or surrounding flora to burn because it is home to the Pokémon living out here,” the man informs me. I look at him in confusion and he waves his hand outward and sideways as to say continue, then the Ralts drops the telekinetic hold on Hinoté. I look down at Hinoté, try to think of a new strategy, and crouch down to whisper in his ear, "ok, so use quick attack to gain some speed, then use peck at the last moment aiming to the right got it?" He nods and takes a stance. He shoots off in a blazing speed towards the ralts, and as he gets within a couple of feet, the ralts teleports again. Hinoté charges up his beak and aims to the right just as the Ralts appears and he lands the hit right on target. The Ralts falls back a couple of feet and I reach into the side pocket of my bag to grab a Pokéball. I throw it at the Ralts and it flashes into the pokéball. It rocks twice and pops back out. "Huh? What happened?!" I react in surprise. The man looks at me, laughs, and begins to speak, "you must not have had to catch a Pokémon in battle yet have you?" I shake my head no and explain to him how I received my Pokémon up until now. He raises his hat slightly and gives me a look of immense surprise and curiosity, “amazing, you have the greatest connection to Pokémon and you don't even know it,” he laughs a small bit, “this Ralts here is very strong. I also think it's determined. But you should give a shot at how you've normally been going at catching them rather than just battling it. I bet then, it would be happy to join your team,” the man suggests, so I decide to test his theory, out of pure curiosity, and walk over to the stone in the ground that the Ralts was trying to pull out. I notice that it is perfectly spherical, polished, and dirty, but I can see that it has some kind of swirl inside of it. It looks like a large uniquely designed marble, "hmm this is an odd looking ball like stone,” I dig it up and look around for something to clean it with. I feel around on my pockets and realize, huh...I still have that mascara filled handkerchief from last night...I pull out the handkerchief and clean the stone off. The Ralts looks at me with wanting eyes under its blue helmet like head. The man pulls his hat back down over his eyes and starts walking away, I look up in surprise, “hey! What's your name? I wanted to thank you for your advice!" My voice trails off as he continues walking, then he waves at me as he turns left around the tree line and disappears out of sight, “well then," I look back over to the Ralts and hold out the stone to it, “here you go little guy, I believe you were trying to get this..." I smile at it, then it floats over to me, grabs the stone politely, and bows to me. Before I can stand up, it floats around me towards my bag and reaches into the pocket with the different Pokéballs. It rummages around for one it likes and pulls out a blue topped ball with red lines on it. It tosses the ball in the air and it positions itself under it where the ball would land. The ball drops out of the air and lands beside the ralts on the ground. Everyone watching...(and probably everyone reading) laughs a little bit while the Ralts continues its juggling efforts. It turns to look at the ball with a frustrated look on its face. It picks the ball up with telekinesis and raises it up over its head again, but with more precision this time, and drops it. The ball falls gracefully, lands on the Ralts’s head, and it smiles and lets out a gleeful cry as it flashes into the ball, then it rocks three times and pops. Hinoté scoffs, runs up my left arm, and plops down on my shoulder with a jealous attitude, “what is it Hinote? Did you want to win that battle? Or atleast finish it?" I ask laughing lightly at my own sarcasm. He crosses his arms and puts his beak in the air looking away. I take the Vdex out, set Loomy down in front of me, take Setsei, and line her up next to Loomy, then I try to get Hinoté off my shoulder but he will not budge, “come on buddy I'm trying to do something nice," I give him a frustrated look. He scoffs, walks down my arm, and stands beside Loomy. I walk over to the ball Ralts is in, pick it up, press the button on the ball, and let the ralts out, it sparkles as it appears out of the ball, “Hmm that was odd,” I think to myself, then I take the Vdex, hold it up to the line of Pokémon, and register each one individually, "Loomy, grass and fire, female, knows vine whip, leaf storm, ember, and sweet scent. Setsei, normal, red star, female, already know her moves. Hinote, fire and electric, male, already know his moves. And you Ralts, male, psychic and fairy, red star, knows teleport, telekinesis, disarming voice, and future sight...we gotta give you a name," I look at him and scratch my head, “hmm. I think with the way your personality runs, I'm gonna call you...Gallan. How does that sound?" He looks up to me and to the others, then he looks happy but with a sense of rivalry towards Hinoté, “but here's the thing, you two are gonna have to get along," Hinoté sticks his tongue out at Gallan and scoffs. Gallan turns his head and crosses him arms. I laugh and stop to wonder, “how am I going to fit this whole g**g on me?” I stand there thinking for a few moments when I suddenly have an idea, “if I had a bike I could carry all of you at the same time! Haha. If only," I set everyone in their normal places, then I put Galliant on my right shoulder, pick Setsei up, and carry her in my arms on my chest. I continue forward towards the tree line entering the next town, where I notice the man standing next to a tree. "See? You did well. That connection you have, I haven't seen it since I was a young boy in Unova. And the fact you keep your Pokémon by your side instead of in their Pokéballs, it truly is a wonder. And that Shroomish you have there...she’s not a shiny, but yet she doesn’t have the color of a normal shroomish either,” the man points out, then I look at Loomy and back at him. “What is a shiny?” I ask curiously. He laughs, “a shiny is normally just a Pokémon with a slightly different coloring than the normal ones of that species. It’s a genetic malfunction but perfectly healthy, in fact there are some who believe that shinies are sometimes stronger than their normal counterparts...” “Oh, I get it, the red star...” “Yes exactly, but your Shroomish is a different case. She doesn’t have a red star on her profile right?” I pull out the Vdex and show him. “This is an odd looking piece of tech...but this is even more odd, the information about this Shroomish is all wrong. It’s like this Shroomish is from another region like Alola or Grecia...” I look at him worried...”what do you mean? Is that bad?” “Oh no!” He looks at me and smiles, “I didn’t mean to worry you. I just mean that she probably comes from a region where the Pokémon adapt differently to their change in environments. So where the normal Shroomish and Breloom here in Hoenn are green and beige in color, your shroomish is pink on top, and blue on bottom. I’m not sure what causes that deformation of color but another odd thing is that she has the fire type,” he explains. “Oh? Is that not normal?” I inquire. He looks at me confused, “there’s never been a grass fire type before. So no that’s not normal. She is very rare indeed. By the way my name is N, yours?" I look at him confused, "I can kind of remember seeing a couple of grass fire types in the Grecia region, but I can’t remember...hey wait, your name is 'in' mine? I don't follow?! I haven't even told you my name yet..." I laugh confusedly. He laughs with me, "no, I meant my name is just the letter 'N’. Now, what is your name?" "Oh! I got you, mister 'N', my name is Viper, and these are my best friends, Hinoté," I rub his head, "Loomy is the Shroomish here," she pops up and waves. "Setsei here," I hold her up in my arms, "and this Ralts I just befriended is Gallan,” I introduce everyone. He smiles, "you know it's odd that you would so innocently name him that. That stone you helped him dig up is the mega stone, Galladite. And he is a male Ralts, so whenever he evolves into a Kirlia, you can use a dawn stone to evolve him into a Gallade. So that name fits him with great compliment,” he smiles, walks over to me, reaches into his back pocket, and pulls out a bright teal colored stone that looks like a sun shining, “this is a dawn stone, I'm hoping you'll know when to use it. Well I'm off now, take care and keep loving your Pokémon like you do. I see a great future for you,” he pulls his hat back down over his eyes and walks across the route towards Oldale town. I can only thank him in my thoughts. "Such an odd meeting with that guy, huh? Still, he was really nice to give me that advice and this dawn stone,” I mention, then they all nod in unison and I put the dawn stone in my bag. I walk through the clearing passing around a little open patch on the left side to notice that it looks like somebody dropped something behind a ledge. I decide to walk over and see what is there. As I get closer I hear some Pokémon rustling around in the surrounding forest and some Spearows flying above. I reach down and pick up the item, but I do not recognize what it is, although it looks like a piece of jewelry, so I put it in my left side pocket, since I will be putting the Vdex in my right pocket for easier access. I turn around to go back over the ledge and I notice it is a few feet higher than before, “that isn’t right? I easily hopped off of that on my way down here, how did it get so high?” It is too high for me to hop back up on, so I have to walk around it. As I make my way around the ledge I have this feeling that someone is following me, but I decide to keep moving forward since Petalburg is right there
