“You’re back,” it was more of a statement coming from the woman that directed Anna out before. Perhaps she felt threatened by her beauty.
“Yes, I am, and your boss said you should help me,” now it was Anna’s turn to feel smug.
The woman, whose name tag read ‘Julie’ scoffed, a silent promise of hell to Anna. But, she did get on her computer to work her magic of connecting the job hunter to the employer, and in no time they found a suitable Job for Anna’s qualification.
“Are you sure you can work with children?” Julie asked with a look of disdain directed at Anna.
“Children? I love children!” Anna exclaimed, her enthusiasm going over the roof, something Julie didn’t like a bit.
“Well, this is the address,” she scribbled something on a post it note and handed it to Anna, “Be on your merry way now, because it says urgent.” Anna nodded, collected the paper and walked out to hail a taxi to go to the address given to her.
She got there in no time, and she knocked on the door, “Who are you?” the man that answered the door asked, quite rudely.
‘Rude much?’ Anna asked inside herself, sarcastically before mustering a smile to answer the man.
The moment she looked up, the man looked at her too, quite closely, both their eyes widened, “You!”
"You!" Jasper Charles snapped, pointing his index finger at Anna whose eyes grew wide. Likewise, she was looking shocked to see him.
"What are you doing here!" He snapped, and she almost flinched.
"I… I…" She stammered, trying to talk, but Jasper Charles's harsh tone stopped her from speaking any further.
"Leave!" He barked, and she shook her head.
"I know you still hate me, but please give me a chance" She pleaded, with a shaky voice as she rubbed her palms together.
"I don't care, just get out of here, now! You don't want me calling the security on you" He said, furiously, with his eyes nearly getting red in anger.
She got on her knees, and he watched as tears dropped from her eyes. "Can't you give me a second chance? I'm begging you"
"I don't want to hear you!" He snapped. "And what are you even doing here?"
"I got a job here" She answered softly.
"A job?" He asked, his voice barely a whisper. That was when it occurred to him that she could be the nanny that got the job to take care of his girls.
Jasper Charles scoffed and shook his head. "Never would I allow such a dimwit like you, take the job of taking care of my babies. I'm not stupid!"
The statement really hurt Anna but she dared not do or say anything. She only bit her lower lip, trying to bottle in her emotions.
"Did you hear what I said? I said you should leave. Taking in a dimwit as a nanny is a big no. What was my mother thinking? Assuming I knew that you were the nanny, I should have thrown you out long ago. Leave at once, foolish girl" He spat.
Anna inhaled deeply, she'd had enough of him, and wasn't going to take it anymore. She folded her fists and got up, glaring at him.
Jasper Charles's eyes arched as he watched Anna give him a stony look like she wanted to kill her.
"Why are you staring at me, you foolish girl?" He snapped, gnashing his teeth, with his jaw clenched.
"Stop calling me that" She whispered.
"Huh?" He muttered, tilting his head, wondering where she was heading to.
"I said stop calling me that!" She said, more loudly than before.
"What is that supposed to mean! And why is an arrogant and foolish girl like yourself, raising her voice on me. Have you got no manners! Do you want me to show you how it's done!" He yelled, ready to attack her if she annoyed him the more.
"Stop calling me a dimwit and a foolish girl. I'm perfectly normal, as you can see. So, stop referring to me, "she said, with a soft voice, although it gave traces of hardness. She was definitely filled with rage.
He scoffed and walked towards her, unfazed by her statement, and how she behaved. "And who do you think you are exactly? I'm going to call you that, and there is nothing you can do about it"
Anna inhaled deeply, closed her eyes and opened it slowly. She didn't say a word, she just stared at him hatefully, and watched as his lips moved and danced.
"You are a big dimwit, a foolish lady! Even little kids would make a perfect nanny" He spat, glaring back at her, with his index finger pointing to her face.
Anna couldn't hold it anymore. She clenched her fists, and took steps inside, meeting with Jasper Charles face to face, like they were about to kiss.
"What is your problem?" He snarled, taking a few steps back. "Who asked you to come inside, and what makes you think you can walk towards me that way, while looking at me with those nasty looking eyes. Take it down at once before I poke them" He warned, showing his long fingernails to Anna who wasn't even bothered.
"You insulted me first," She whispered.
"And so?" He hissed, taking his face to the side.
"Here goes nothing" She whispered, closed her eyes tightly, and opened them quickly. "You are nothing but a senseless father. You are bad at taking care of people around you and you also talk too much for a man. Are you a parrot? Shouldn't you leave that character for the ladies?"
"Wha… What?" Jasper Charles stuttered, blinking his eyes fast, and his head tilting to the side.
Anna sighed deeply, a frown occupied on her face.
"How dare you! What did you just say?" He yelled at her face.
"You heard me right and clear, and isn't it better you don't hear me repeat myself? I don't want you getting hurt, you know" She smirked, shrugging her shoulders.
Jasper Charles gnashed his teeth, and took steps towards her. Just as he was about to hit her, the sounds of babies crying loudly rented the air.
"Oops!" She giggled, covering her mouth with her palm. "I guess the twins are awake now. I should go and check on them!"
Anna suddenly left his side and ran to him. Jasper Charles's eyes blinked fast, wondering what just happened.
"Wait?" He whispered to himself, scratching the back of his head. "Did I just allow that obnoxious lady to run into my house? How dare she!"
He turned around and ran to the twin bedroom. He kicked the door open and yelled, "Who do you think you are? How dare you…" He paused when he noticed the now quiet room.
"Ssh… Don't make them cry again" Anna whispered.
Jasper Charles swallowed hard as he watched his twin girls, who weren't crying anymore. Instead, they looked happy and excited.
He was quite surprised and continued watching Anna who coaxed and dotted the twins. His eyes blinked when Anna looked at him.
"I think they are hungry," She whispered. "I will go and prepare their breakfast"
Immediately she stood up, wanting to head to the door, the babies started crying again. Anna ran to them, and started patting them gently and playfully, and they stopped crying immediately.
