Chrissy let out her Mickey’s at-the-door bark. Steve stood there bundled up for the latest snowfall, and Mickey wagged his tail. Autumn threw on her heavy coat, scarf, and hat and dressed Chrissy in her pink quilted snow jacket, lined with fleece. She turned up the collar to keep her a little neck warm. A pink knit hat that tied under the chin completed the outfit. She didn’t put the boots on, knowing she’d throw them off after a few steps. Autumn clicked the leash onto the metal ring of Chrissy’s harness and pulled on her thickest gloves. When she was a child, her mother had always dressed Autumn in layers to play in the snow, and she adhered to that strategy to this day.
“Could we have picked a colder day?” she asked.
“It’s brisk, sure, but the pups love it.”
