“Hello, Mrs. Reed. How are you?” Autumn telephoned her mother-in-law-to-be.
“Just fine, dear. I’m excited about the wedding,” said Ray’s mother, Carol. “And please call me Mom or Carol, whichever you prefer.”
Autumn’s heart lifted.
“I’d love to call you Mom! Thank you. It’ll be so nice to have a mom again.”
“It must be hard without her. She was so young. I’m no replacement, but I’m happy to have you as a daughter.”
Autumn smiled ear-to-ear. “I’m honored,” she said Atumn. “I know we’re not related yet, but may I ask a favor?”
“Of course.”
“We’re upholding wedding traditions, and I need something borrowed. According to legend, it should be from someone in a happy marriage.”
