“I’m not strong enough,” she whispered, her voice small, the fear she had kept buried for years suddenly spilling out. “I’ve never been enough.” He reached for her then, his hand gentle, as if sensing the vulnerability in her words. When his fingers brushed against hers, a shock of electricity surged between them, pulling her in, as if her soul was being tugged into alignment with his. “You’re more than enough,” he said, his voice low and comforting. “You are everything they’ve feared. But you don’t have to face it alone. Not anymore.” Her heart raced, her chest tightening as she looked up at him. She could feel the bond—strong, undeniable. A force that was pulling them together, not just as mates, but as something more. Something powerful. “I—I don’t know how to handle this,” she admitted, her voice breaking. “I don’t know what to do.” Kaelen’s golden eyes softened, his face unreadable for a moment before a quiet understanding passed over him. He took a step back, giving her space, but his gaze never wavered from hers. “I’ll teach you,” he said simply. “We’ll face this together. You’ll learn to control it, Lena. And when you do, we’ll make sure they know the truth—the truth of what you are. And what we are.” The forest around them seemed to grow still, as if holding its breath. Lena could feel the weight of his words, of the promise he made. And for the first time, she felt something more than fear. She felt a flicker of hope, fragile but real. Her wolf side, the animal that had been born from fear and rejection, now surged with something else: a sense of belonging. A sense of home. “You really think we can fight them?” she asked, almost doubting the strength of her own words. “The council. The packs. All of them.” He nodded, his gaze unwavering. “Together, we can face them. And we’ll do it on our terms.” Lena stood there, her chest still heaving with the weight of the moment, but now, instead of running from the chaos, she felt ready to meet it head-on. With him. The bond between them was more than just a magical connection. It was the promise of something more—a new beginning. “I won’t let you go,” he added, his words a vow, a promise. “Not now. Not ever.” The forest seemed to close in around them as Lena and Kaelen stood in the stillness, a bond that was once unknown to her now a palpable force between them. His words rang in her ears, a promise of strength, but the weight of the situation still pressed on her chest. There was no turning back now. “We should go,” Lena said quietly, her voice trembling slightly, not from fear but from the overwhelming uncertainty that flooded her thoughts. “They’ll be looking for me.” The dragon nodded, his golden eyes never leaving hers. “We’re already on borrowed time.” Lena turned to move, but as she did, she felt it—the unmistakable pulse of magic from the pack. They were already tracking her, their wolves on her scent. It wouldn’t be long before they found her, and if they did, there would be no escaping the consequences. She was the pack’s prize, a forbidden creature that the alpha would never let slip through his fingers. “We can’t stay here,” she said urgently, her heart pounding in her chest. Kaelen’s gaze sharpened, sensing the danger even before she fully registered it. His hand shot out, gripping her wrist with surprising gentleness but also an ironclad grip that promised no escape. “Stay close to me,” he commanded, his voice low but filled with authority.
