DAVE Righting my emotions, I pulled out a chair for Elara, waiting patiently as she settled into it before taking my place beside her. Elara tilted her head, her expression curious. “Shouldn’t you be on your honeymoon?” she asked Romilly, her voice light, meant to provoke. I knew her well enough to recognize the subtle jab, an attempt to lure Flynn into boasting about his dedication to his job and the company. Romilly’s face remained impassive as she offered a casual shrug. “We arrived in Manhattan late last night. I thought about calling you, but I didn’t want to disturb your sleep.” Elara’s eyes narrowed slightly as she leaned back, her gaze drifting slowly around the room. She took her time, letting her attention linger on her father and brother before finally returning to Romilly.
