Amy stayed with me through the ultrasound and preoperative consultation. The doctor confirmed my decision several times, explained the risks, and asked me privately whether anyone was coercing me. I said no. My hand was steady as I signed the consent form. What made me freeze was seeing Chloe outside the recovery area. "Why are you here?"
