Jasmine stirred in her sleep, feeling consciousness slowly seep in. She opened her eyes, the blinding sun rays that shone through the window disturbing her senses as she became aware of the time of day. The chirping sounds of the birds got louder, causing her to hiss and mutter inaudible words. She felt weak to her bones and her head ached badly as she took a quick glance over her surroundings, and noticed the rather large tray of food by the bed side.
She was confused as to where she was, and what was happening. Jasmine had jerked off the bed like she was being chased by someone, and scampered her way out until she got to the door. Immediately, she froze at the spot, with her right palm tightly clutching the door knob.
Jasmine was so sure she heard the voice. Yes, the same voice that made everywhere silent at the event last night. The same voice that made her feel dizzy and weak to her knees. The same voice that made her fall to the ground unconsciously. The same voice that had publicly called her ‘Mate!’
“Good morning dear mate. Where are you running off to?” The voice enquired, making her to around to look at the quite pretty looking man. His voice was calm and gentle, yet demanding and authoritative. She found herself fiddling with her hands, as he stared at her intently.
Jasmine could finally remember everything, as the memories of what happened at the coronation, flashed through her mind.
She was still facing the door with her right palm clutching the knob even more tightly. Eventually she turned to face him, but still not moving from her position.
Jasmine tried to speak, but her throat went dry and she couldn’t figure out the words as she stared at this strange man from last night. He was bare chested.
‘Uhhh....isn’t it too early to be drooling?’ Nadia teased.
“Stop it, would you!?” Jasmine warned her wolf inaudibly, but he seemed to have heard her as he raised an eye brow.
She realized she hadn’t answered his question, and just staring at each other was already awkward and uncomfortable. So she braced up to look composed and bold, as she gave her reply.
“Good morning Sir. I was just about leaving, because I can’t remember how I got here.” She said boldly, which was the exact opposite of how she felt and looked few seconds back.
“Hmmm....” The man nodded, as if giving what she had said, an actual thought. “So can you remember how you got here now?“
“Not really, the last thing I remember is that I felt dizzy and fell to the ground.” Jasmine replied, still not moving from her position although she had turned around to face him completely. She didn’t know if she was shy or if she was just uncomfortable to be here, so she bowed her head slightly, fixing her gaze on the pearl designs on the floor.
“Do you still feel dizzy? You should sit and have breakfast. There are pain killers here too.” He said, bringing the large tray of food to the bed, while Jasmine sat and watched quietly. No one had ever cared for her this much, and especially not a stranger she just met. She doesn’t even know his name yet.
‘For goddess’s sake, he’s not a stranger! He’s our mate!’ Nadia whined in annoyance. Jasmine knew that, but she was still having a hard time believing it.
Jasmine watched as he placed the tray of food on the bed, just in front of her. She tried as much as possible to avoid his gaze as she stared at the food in front of her. She had never imagined she would have an Alpha for a mate. One, who was this good looking and somewhat caring.
Just immediately, her stomach growled in hunger, and she knew she needed to put some food in stomach of hers, before she passed out again.
“You should start eating already, the food must be getting pissed for not being touched in like forever.” He urged.
‘Oh wow! He is funny too.’ Nadia muttered in Jasmine’s head. Rolling her eyes at the ‘extra’ behavior of her wolf, Jasmine looked up at him in a way that was very awkward. He was quick to realize that he needed to put on a shirt, so she wouldn’t be so uncomfortable. He muttered an excuse and walked into the left corner, most certainly heading towards the wardrobe.
She thought he must have changed into his clothes so quickly, as he rushed out from the bathroom, fumbling on the buttons of his shirt.
“Are you enjoying your meal?” He asked, still buttoning his shirt and just sparing a glance at her unfinished meal.
Jasmine nodded, not saying a word to him, and he felt that was his cue to leave her alone and not as ask too many questions.
He thought about leaving the room, but then he realized he shouldn’t just leave, because she might try to run away as she tried to do earlier.
“I noticed you haven’t touched your eggs. You don’t like eggs?” He asked again, before he could even stop himself from asking. Jasmine simply nodded for yet the hundredth time, still not saying anything as she munched on her sandwich rather slowly. All the while, she did not spare him a glance.
He felt a little sad about that, but reminded himself that she needed time to get used to their new situation. They were mates! He decided not to strike up any conversation with her just yet, as she didn’t seem to want to say anything, rather than just nodding her head.
“Alright then. You should eat up so you can have the pain killers and go back to sleep. Your eyes are a bit swollen, and you look really sick. So I think you need to have enough rest as possible.” He said, trying to get her to look up at him, but she didn’t even do as much as turn her neck, making him realize it was time for him to give her space and excuse himself from the room. How many more times did he really need to come to this realization, before giving her some damned space?! A thousand times, perhaps.
“What is your name?” He asked, as he walked to the door. He turned his head to take a closer look at her, and she was slowly chewing her chicken nuggets, still not sparing him a glance. He had actually waited for her to finish chewing and when he thought she wouldn’t say a word to him as usual, he turned and placed his hand on the door knob. Just as he was about to open the door and leave, she spoke up.
“My name is Jasmine.” She replied, looking at him for what seemed like a few seconds.
“I would be right back, Jasmine. Please don’t leave this room or go anywhere. I’ve searched for you everywhere and now, I’m glad I’ve found you. So stay here and wait for me until I return.” He said, and walked out of the room, leaving an inexplicable feeling in the pit of her stomach.
************************
He had sounded really calm and gentle but Jasmine could feel the intensity of his tone. It held a lot of authority and seriousness, but yet passion and warmth. He sounded more like a leader, yet a friend that she was willing to trust, respect and depend on.
She remembered his words.....”I’ve searched for you everywhere, and now I’m glad I have found you......” Jasmine wondered what he meant by that, and a part of her felt happy to hear he was ‘glad’.
To be honest, she felt really scared. Scared of Alpha Chad, his father, and what might be going through their minds after the embarrassing thing she did at the coronation the previous night.
Jasmine had already lost her appetite, so she returned the tray of food back at the bedside. She badly needed someone to talk to as she had a lot going on in her head. Natasha would have been the best person to be with at the moment, but her mate had instructed her to stay put until he returned.
At this point, she wanted to sleep. Her head ached badly, and that was when she remembered she hadn’t taken the pain killers. Jasmine took two pills of the pain killers, and said a silent prayer to the moon goddess before slowly drifting away in sleep.
*********************************
Jasmine thought she would wake up to realize this was all a dream, but she was clearly far from ‘Lala land’. She rubbed her eyes and placed her right palm on her forehead. She didn’t feel dizzy anymore, but felt confused as she didn’t see the tray of food by the bedside again. Jasmine was still studying the room when she noticed the figure sitting on the couch, at the extreme end of the room. She realized he had been there all along, sitting quietly and reading a book.
She wasn’t sure if she should pretend to continue sleeping, or walk up to him and ask him if she could go see her friend, Natasha.
She didn’t even know his name, so where would she start from?
Jasmine faked a cough to get his attention and it worked. She watched as he turned to her direction, waving in an awkward manner.
She didn’t know if she should wave up back, as she sat up on the bed, fixing her gaze on him.
He was confused as to why she was staring at him. He knew she had been awake for some time, and knew the cough was fake, but he wasn’t sure if he was supposed to go to her.
He decided to move closer to her, so he could ask if she needed anything. He really hoped he didn’t get snubbed again.
“Hey Jasmine. How are you doing? How is your head?” He walked towards her with the book still in his hands, urging himself not to get disappointed if all she got to do was nod and not say anything.
“I feel much better now. Thank you.” Jasmine replied, looking at him rather too quickly, before fixing her gaze at the book in his hands. Not like she was interested in it at the moment. She loved books but this time, she didn’t want to look at him or his book.
He was quite surprised that she had responded to him, and he noticed she wasn’t looking at him, but at something else. His book.
“The Chronicles of Queen Dreasany.” He muttered, but Jasmine heard him as loud as day. “It’s one of my favorite books of a powerful Luna. Do you want to see?” He stretched out the book for her to see, but Jasmine was quick to refuse. He regretted his actions immediately.
“No, thank you. I’m not interested, I just want to see my friend, Natasha. Please would you let me see her?” Jasmine asked, praying silently that he permits her to go. Natasha seemed to be the only person that would understand why she was feeling scared and confused, after knowing she was mated to an Alpha, regardless of being an ordinary slave.
Jasmine was really grateful to the moon goddess, but she wanted to be sure she was safe as well and would not get rejected by her mate later on. She thought it wise that he rejects her now, so she could just humbly go back to her slave quarters and cry on Natasha’s shoulders.
She was still thinking and waiting for his response when they heard a knock at the door, and it creaked open when he asked the person to come inside.
“Good day, your highness. The carriage is ready and waiting outside.” The guard greeted, bowing his head slightly.
“Tell Nathan and the others that we wouldn’t be returning to the palace today. I would love to stay a day or two, considering the fact that my mate needs a little time to comprehend everything happening.” He ordered.
“Yes, my Prince. I would also send a message across to the palace, informing them of our failure to return today. Is there something else we should do, your highness?” The guard muttered.
“Nothing else for now, You may leave.” He said, as he gestured for the guard to leave with the wave of his hand. After that, he m turned his full attention on Jasmine, who looked like she could pass out in any second.
“Wh...who the hell are you exactly?” She queried, but regretted her words almost immediately. She didn’t mean to sound rude. She could feel herself shaking.
“My name is Tristan Lockwood. The Crown prince of the werewolf kingdom.” He revealed, and she looked like she was going to pass out again.
