~Alpha Aaron~
I have never met a pack as paranoid as the Moonlight pack. I was not shocked at all when their Alpha Liam told me that the brains of their operation lie with their women. No offense to these three men but their written communication was a lot more put together than their verbal communication. Anyone who knew how to run a pack could tell that these three knew how to take charge, but they were not in charge. Everything they discussed was said in a way that was almost scripted to make sure that they said everything that they needed to say. This wasn't bad, some people need notes to make sure they do not forget anything, but this was something else entirely.
Liam, the Alpha, was small compared to the other packs Alphas standing at 5 ft 9 with a build that showed he was strong but not solid like that of a typical Alpha. His Gamma, Mark, looked physically closer to an omega than a Gamma. I had heard rumors over the years that he had been hurt badly in a fight with a bear but was never forward enough to ask him about it myself. Then there was the Beta Bryan. I did not know what to say about this man. He was taller than his Alpha steading at 6ft even and was not much of a talker at all. He was a domineering presence, and one firm look was enough to make my Gamma Grayson almost wet himself. Man that had to be one of the funniest meetings ever!
Before we left, we had a trade meeting with the Moonlight pack, and they exposed the fact that their women were actually in charge and soon they would be handing over their titles to the next generation. I had heard whispers among the other packs, so I was not to surprised and considering all of our correspondence, other than in person, dealt with their women alone I didn't see this as a big deal.
However, Grayson jumped out of his seat and started throwing a hissy fit the size of Texas. I thought his eyes were going to pop out of his head as he turned red all over, yelling for really no reason. Before any of us could say anything, Bryan moved to stand in front of Grayson and simply stood in front of him folding his arms. Grayson tried to stand his ground, but the man almost seemed to tower over the man even though they were only 3 inches apart in height. When Grayson didn't sit down Bryan bent down so they were looking in one another eyes, "Sit pup." That was it and I swear Grayson looked like he was going to piss himself.
"Holy s**t you're Jamaican!" I stated shocked before I could even think. This made all three men from the Moonlight Pack laugh and me to gain a red tint to my cheeks. I had always had a bad habit of speaking before I thought, and it got me in trouble in the past. "Sorry it’s just in the last 6 years since I've been Alpha, I've never heard you talk! I thought you just liked the dreads for the fashion look since you are always so well dressed compared to the rest of us." I sighed softly leaning back in my chair. Bryan was always in a suit for some reason even though the rest of us looked like lumber jacks.
"It never hurts to be well dressed. I also find that I get more pups when I dress like this." Bryan smirked turning to look at me as he moved back to his seat.
"Oh, gross Bryan we do not need a detailed description on why you and Katie have 9 kids!" Liam groaned rubbing his hands along his face.
"Correction ten," Bryan smirked sticking his tongue out at his friend.
"Now I know why she’s been at the Bakery every day," Mark chucked at his friend.
As I watched the three men I was filled with a sense of jealousy at their closeness. Unlike their pack, where they got to pick their leaders. Our pack was determined by a hierarchy. I was friends with my Beta, Jonah, so that was fine. However, if I could banish Grayson I would while setting him on fire as he left. I never had any proof but something about the man never sat right with me, and I didn't trust him to get me a sealed bottle of water let alone help me run my pack. "Okay if the alliance is going to change like this, I would like to formally meet our new allies would that be possible?" I was shocked at the worry that crossed the men’s faces when I asked a question that I thought was a fairly normal one.
"We do not like people to know where we are..." Liam said slowly. "If it is only you Alpha Aaron then it should be fine."
"WHAT!" Grayson screamed standing once more. "If you want us to trust you then we should all know who we are dealing with."
"Yell again and I will have you removed!" I growled at Grayson filling the room with my Alpha aura. I may not be able to replace him... yet... but I also did not have to put up with him. "That is fine I do not mind I can leave Jonah in charge while I am gone for a week." I did not see a point in arguing.
They were allowing me into their home which is something no one in our pack had gotten an invitation to do so before. Not even my father. Once we had settled the details I packed, and we were on our way.
We first drove for about an hour before they parked the car on the side of the road, and we grabbed our bags from the back. Before we could all start walking, they explained that I would need to be blind folded, and I reluctantly nodded. It felt like we had been walking for hours when they stopped me and removed the blindfold. "Are we here?"
"Almost, it is another 5 minutes to the town, but we feel it is okay for you to see now." Liam smiled softly tucking the blindfold away. "We are sorry Alpha Aaron about the secrecy. We are a pack of rogues and considering the stigma and how many children we have, safety is our number one concern."
"I understand. Honestly, I wanted to meet your women but I really kind of needed a break from my pack." I chuckled rubbing my neck nervously as I looked around at the lush forest surrounding us. "I knew you guys were located on some forest land so I thought it would be beautiful. Also please call me Aaron. I know I am here for business, but you do not need to speak formally to me."
Bryan chuckled, "I would need a break from that Grayson to. Hell, I probably would have already set him on fire by now!" His booming laugh was contagious as the other two man joined in.
"Yeah, he’s an ass!" Mark chimed him cheerfully. "She was right about that dude." This comment made all three of them freeze and turn ghost white like Mark had said the worst thing in the world.
"Who was right?" I looked confused as we all started walking in the direction of the town with Bryan in front, me in the middle, and Mark and Liam behind me.
"It is nothing... well you should know soon enough." Mark said quietly as I noticed him begin to play with the hem of his black jacket.
I simply nodded choosing not to push the subject when they clearly did not want to talk about it. Like they said five minutes later a small log cabin town came into view with the most heavily scent attached to it. This had to be the bakery that they said their pregnant Beta was going to every day because the scent was filled with everything sugary and good... with a hint of familiarity. I was slightly taken aback when I noticed that the roads were made up of bricks rather than asphalt. Kids were running all around us excited to see their Alpha, Beta, and Gamma return. I chuckled softly as one of the girls. no more than 5, looked up at me and blushed taking my hand, "Are you new here?"
I stopped walking and smiled kneeling before her, so we were eye level, " I am new here but sweetheart I am just here to visit. My name is Aaron what is yours?"
The little girl giggled while covering her mouth with one of her hands. Her auburn hair was pulled back into braided pig tails that showed a grand contrast between her shy personality and fiery appearance. "My name is Angela, I'm five. I like your name my best friends name is Aaron too!" She started rambling about nothing in particular, and I sat in front of her listening to every word as she told me how she liked to paint, play in the dirt, and even help Aaron and his mom at their bakery. Angela squealed as she was lifted into the air, "Daddy I was talking to the new man!!!" she huffed unhappily even though the smile on her face betrayed her anger.
"Sorry sweat heart but we have to go meet mommy and your aunties. How about you talk to him more over dinner in a few hours." Liam beamed nuzzling his daughter’s cheek. When she nodded, he put her down and beamed as he watched her run off.
"You don't fear her safety?" I asked softly noticing that I could no longer see her.
"No, it is part of the reason we are so strict about no one finding us. Our children run free here with little fear. I fear her ruining her dinner with donuts more than her safety." I had never seen an Alpha look more relaxed than Liam in this moment and I realized that I once again envied him. "It is time Aaron, the women are waiting for us."
