After dropping us, I drive slowly behind them, Kellane is on the passenger seat. She looks so tensed and the air around us is thick with tension too. I'm the first one to break the silence.
"So you did a number on her, huh?" I smirk looking at her, a smile plays on her lips and she opens her mouth.
"She had three f*****g goons who could have helped her but her confidence is really questionable." She shakes her head a smile still tugging at her lips.
" Tell me more." I smile back liking where this conversation is heading.
"What could be more? She stormed in with her six inch shoe clicking on the floor loudly. She was looking like an hungry cat, she raised her hand but before I caught it, it landed on my cheek, sure I felt my ears buzzing because she really charged that hand. It also left her hand stinging because she started blowing air on it afterwards." She stops, I see a flicker of emotion in her eyes and then a cheeky gleam glows in her eyes as she narrows them.
"And then?" Jesus, I'm so curious.
"And then that didn't stop me. Adrenaline mmmmh... she woke up the wolf in me, she was standing and I was sitting on that cold floor. I dragged her leg and she fell down backwards. I removed her one shoe before she could get up. I banged it right on her forehead. Next on her right shoulder. I saw blood oozing out from that forehead but I Cared less. I stood up and landed kicks on her stomach. I slapped her countless times on her cheeks. She became helpless. She didn't even yell or scream imagine. I thought she was going to pass out but that's when we had the fire alarm. She staggered out and then closed that door and before my brain could register that I've just been locked inside, she was already gone. I knew you were going to get me out, so I was waiting for you." She casts me a sincere smile and then she whispers. "You came, for me." She smiles victoriously again. Oh God, how I missed your smiles. I move my left hand to her hands which are on her thighs. I take one hand in mine and I squeeze it gently smiling back at her. I don't say anything afterwards. I drive in silence with my right hand. The other one resting on hers and moments later our fingers intertwine.
At the police station we give our statements and we leave. It's almost 8 p.m now.
"Your bike was picked up by the way. I told Morgan to pick it up from that place." I tell her and instantly her face glows back to life.
" You did?" I can't miss the excitement in her voice.
"Yes, I know it's your favourite."
"Not just my favourite Bally, it's among the few things that are keeping me sane, infact I don't have others to compare it with." She babbles in happiness. " Thank you so so much ."
I just nod smiling. "Where am I driving you to?" I ask looking at the road ahead of us. We're almost home infact.
" Your place? If that's okay with you." She blushes a little and turns her eyes to her hands.
" My place?" I'm even surprised, she's not serious. "Seems like the drug they used on you is still in your system." I tease.
"Or can you drive me to Tiffany's place, it's just around the corner I'll show you. The thing is, I don't want to go home. They'll start questioning me and I don't want to make them worry. And I don't want them to know what happened to me, at least not today." She explains . Now I get it.
" No I'm taking you to our place." I declare turning the sterling wheel.
" I don't want us to be in a bizarre situation... Uhmmm you know?" She trails still playing with her fingers. So innocent, you can't even compare her to the girl who beat the crap out of Maya.
"Since when is that, I know what you mean but I'm taking you to our place." I speak with finality as I drive along our driveway now.
When we enter the house, we are greeted with chicken aroma. "They're having dinner, "I hope you don't mind us joining them."
"No Bally, I don't want to give them that illusion. You know.... that we're something. That's what they'll obviously think." She begs with her eyes sagging her shoulders not dismissively.
"You know Cassandra likes you, and so is Bruce, why can't you just come? She knows better, she won't misinterpret." We're standing at the foyer.
" Thanks, I'll pass just go eat, I'll find your room . I don't think that I've forgotten it, unless you moved to another one." Her lips curl up as she starts taking the steps up. I stay behind looking at her until she reaches the top stairs. She smiles and mouths at me. 'Just goooo' I smile back nodding.
I enter the dining room my grin evident on my face which almost betrays me.
"Somebody is happy today, mind sharing why?" Cassandra asks after I greet her.
" He bought new movies to watch tonight, I know!" Bruce chirps. " Mind joining you? What do you think, Friday movie night with your little buddy?" He grins showing his toothless gap on his upper jaw.
"No new movies." I gush taking a seat between him and Cassandra as our long term kitchen maid, Linda starts loading my plate with food.
"Did Tleigh finally talk to you? Will she help us find a puppy this time?" He doesn't know when to stop. This stuck up little buddy.
"Maybe I'll ask her, she may accept this time." I answer him keenly dodging his first question.
" Were you in no speaking terms?" Cassandra chimes in.
"Leave Bruce to it, he's just blaffing." I choose my words carefully without leaving a trace of doubt but who am I kidding? Nobody plays with Cas nana.
"Kids never say things they aren't sure of, so if you may just pardon me, I need an explanation." She commands.
" Yes ma'am, we weren't on speaking terms." I smile forcefully spreading my lips apart playfully at her.
"And now?"
"I'm not sure."
"What do you mean by you're not sure?" She raises her eyebrows the skin on her forehead forming wrinkles.
"Goodnight." I stand up to leave but she stops me.
"Son please." She begs. Wait son? I look at her appalled and she pops her eyes out looking more horrendous than I. She then recovers quickly and she plasters a grin on her face. "If that's what can make you tell me."
"I made a joke of her mother two months ago, we've never talked since then!" I blurt the words running out of my mouth like water from a pipe bursted with its pressure.
"Oh my poor s... Ballice!" She gasps covering up her mouth with her hands. "Her mom died three years ago, I know it's still fresh on her.
"And how was I supposed to know? Nobody told me!" I spit out in anger and her expression turns to a sorry one. "Now if you may excuse me, I want to leave." I stand up picking the food from the table and I head to my room leaving them in shock. I really don't like raising my voice at her, but sometimes she gets into my last nerve.
A smile tug at my lips when I see her hair sprawling all over the pillows carelessly. She's wearing one of my t-shirts and it's the one I was wearing this morning before I changed. It's stopping slightly below her mid thighs. And she's sleeping in a foetal position on top of the sheets and the duvet. I shamble towards her and I set the food on the table beside my bed and I take a seat next to her tucking the hair on her face behind her ear.
She looks so peaceful in her sleep. Her lips part slowly as she breathes softly her chest heaving up and down slowly.
"I'm sorry princess." I whisper into her ears as I bring both of my legs on the bed. I stand on my knees and I scoop her from the sheets, she stirs in my arms but she stills again. I place her gently under the sheets tucking her in.
I strip out of my clothes and I throw another clean t-shirt over my head and a pair of clean shorts. I join her in bed shortly after turning the lights off. I scoot next to her and I hesitate wrapping my arms around her. After seconds of debating I take this risk. I snuggle further into her and I wrap my arm around her.
"Goodnight princess." I brush her cheeks with my thumb as I settle into the pillows. It's 9 p.m. I've never slept this early before but it doesn't take me long before sleep takes me to the land of Oblivion.
