Ballice's pov
I didn't know that a feeling like that existed. A feeling whereby you feel like there is nothing important in this world more than her. Where you feel like she's indomitating each and every inch of your soul, mind and heart.
How it went from texting to calling her everyday.
The sparks I feel that never existed before. The rate at which my heart beats, I didn't even know I had a heart before.
How it definitely makes you ill when you can't get to reach her. Like today!
It's 2 p.m, we were supposed to play violin and guitar, something competitive with the boys but I can't concentrate. All her calls are going to voicemail. I leave the musical arena to search for Tiffany and Camille, after twenty minutes of searching I find them under the community jacaranda laughing like maniacs at something I can't figure out.
"That cold cell is not doing her any good." Camille points out. "If I were Tee I wouldn't have given her Cheetos, imagine she freaking gave her Cheetos? Freaking Cheetos! And the way she loves them." She shakes her head.
" Sometimes Tee is generous but trust me, that was not generosity, she masked that act, she might be regretting it now as well!" Tiffany adds.
" I Know right!" Camille exclaims and they fall into another fits of laughter.
All this time I've been standing, their backs are on me.
"Hey you! Are you f*****g kidding me?" I bleath and they both turn looking baffled.
" How long have you been there? " Camille asks her eyes wide open like sauces.
" I just got here." I answer assuredly.
"Are you sure?" Tiffany asks doubtedly.
"Of course is there something---"
" Tell me you didn't hear me talking about something to do with getting off. " Camille blurts cutting me off.
" Wh.. what!! Oh shit... Gross! I didn't hear that!" Why would she say that anyway? Oh girls and their talks! So awful. I can't imagine this is what Kellane do discuss with her friends. I open my mouth to say something but I close it immediately, I don't want to embarrass her anymore. Her face looks beet red, save for another day.
"Okay what do you want here boy? Tee is not here." Tif says flatly. I can't believe she's the girl who told me not to ever give up on Kellane.
"I know she's not here, that's why I'm here." I quip moving towards them.
"We're sorry, we can't offer you what Tee can." She states unfolding the leg she's been sitting on.
"Enough with the jokes." I state coldly. "Where is she? Why is her phone switched off?"
" We don't know too." Tiffany fires back.
" This whole weekend she was so Moody, we even cancelled our girls time. But I think she's at home PMsing or.... Oh!" Cam looks like she's remembered something. "She's at their place, moody and she don't want to see anyone right now!"
" Why?" I resist the urge to snap at her, so I ask softly.
" Please." Tiffany says. "If you want to be stubborn enough, go find out."
" Heck yeah, that's where I'm heading to. Right this instant!" I groan turning around.
"I'll tell her you said hi." I tell them as I start jogging towards my car.
" Don't tell us we didn't warn you! You're about to meet beauty and beast!" Tiffany yells at me.
Who cares? Here I come baby.
***
I park my car on the roadside. Where I had dropped her the first day she spent a night at our place. Then I turn to face the unfamiliar surrounding. There is a short driveway aligned with Cypress, grove and gum trees on it. Both sides. Not to mention the bloomy flowers alongside.
There is a dark brown metal gate. I move towards it. It's closed. I push it and it opens slowly and I grimace as it screams it's own song. I come face to face with Cassandra's sister who's sweeping along the driveway. All colours of leaves are crumpled down on the ground, and I think it looks even appealing. There is this sense of a cleansed ambiance in this environment. Green is most. And the air around it feels purified, unlike our home surrounded by the city. They're lucky they live at the city's outskirts.
"Hello how may I help you?" She raises her head and realization hits her immediately.
"Ballice! You know our place? Jesus you look so different! How's Cassandra doing? Are you here for Tleigh my dear?"
God how am I supposed to answer all those questions she's just bombarded me with?
"Uhmmm... " I trail looking for the best way to answer her as I walk towards her. "Cassandra is good and yes I'm here to see her." I say picking up her hand and I place it on my already bowed forehead.
"Good to hear that Cassandra is Okay, but Ballice... I... I... don't think that it will be okay for you to see Tleigh. She's at her worst at the moment." She struggles. Her speech breaking on the way.
"What happened! Is she okay? Is she in the house?" I suck in breath my body turning rigid.
" Slow down! She's okay. It's normal." She assures me patting my arm. " It's just that it's intense with her, unlike us all."
The f**k is she talking about?
" What is intense? " I can feel impatience dripping off of me.
"Ballice. This is lady matters---"
"Can I see her please?" I practically beg.
" Ballice please I'm sorry, she can't let anyone in her room, not even her brother."
" I said I want to see her!" I raise my voice raking hands in my hair frustratingly as I start pacing around.
"Try your luck." She states dropping her broom and drags me with her to the house.
They have a simple but beautiful house. One word that comes into my mind is home when I see it. It's painted in maroon and white colour only on the outside. It's a two storey building with a porch on its front with red and white roses at its corner. There is a small lawn to its left and all the compound is surrounded with different types of trees, others seem old and others look young.
We enter the house and homey feeling consumes my being. I'm welcomed with some type of warmth and air freshener scent. To the left of the foyer is the sitting room and the dining room attached next to it. The sitting room consists of grey couches and white cushions with a medium sized flat screen on the wall. Spell home again. The whole house is tiled white on the floor.
"Her room is up there, the furthest room to your right." She pronounces pointing to the floor above us.
" Okay thanks." I say already in my third staircase. I take three steps at a time. Once am up, I jog to the furthest door, the hallway is lit with three yellow bulbs, contrasting it's white walls.
Three knocks no response. I knock again for the fourth time and I hear a soft sob.
"Please go." Her voice comes through the thick door. It's weak and small and it's laced with pain.
"It's me princess." I say after several seconds of silence. Her sobs stop promptly. I wait for another couple of seconds but nothing. The door remains closed. "Please princess." I repeat.
"No. Go." She states her voice holding an edge.
"I'm not going to leave this place until you open this damn door." I grit sliding down on the door. I sit on the cold stinging floor waiting for her to open. I sit there for what feels like an eternity and am suddenly startled by a loud painful cry.
"Ouuuuuuchhhh!" She yells and immediately I stand up and I start pouncing on the door.
"Open please princess. Let's see what's happening to you!"
" Jerk! Go... you're the one making this worse." She spits.
I'm making this worse? How?
" Open the door." I command this time.
"Get screwed scumbag!" She curses in pain.
"I told you so." A voice stops me from saying my next dirty words.
Zila.
"Please help me with spare keys to her room." I plead looking at her straight in the eye.
"I'm sorry, you'll make it worse."
"Pleeeeeaaaaseee..." I drag pulling in my best puppy look.
She huffs dropping her hands lazily on her sides as she shrugs her shoulders. "Fine." She leaves.
She comes back and offers me the keys after something like three minutes. "Don't make her more mad than she is. I warned you." She points a finger on me.
"I won't, it's a promise." I smile at her lightly and she nods walking back.
I wasn't prepared to see what I meet once I open the door. My body turns cold immediately as the scene bites at my skin.
My eyelids feel heavy.
