Martha was smiling encouragingly at Mae. ‘What if I said I would rather Peter looked after the boys and we went out for the evening? That would be more fun to me,’ said Mae dismissively. ‘Oh, look really, we are alright. I just get fed up with him being around sometimes. You know, he is away for days at a time and I get the house to myself. I have gotten used to being by myself, and I like things the way I like them, and then he comes back and everything has to be his way.
