Suicide Attempt

Princess Ramona paced around her room frantically, her mind in pieces. How could her father have been heartless enough to do this to her, he not only went behind her back and fixed her marriage without her consent, he was forcing her to get married to the enemy who sadly turned out to be gay and she saw no option of divorce in the future, her father had already warned her about it.

If she decided to divorce him, she would have absolutely no where to go and she knew she couldn't undergo the stress of being homeless, she was a princess and she definitely deserved better.

It bothered her to no end how she would be treated in the pack, she knew that no matter what both kings had done to end the war, there would still be a lingering feelings of angst between Werewolves and Vampires and sadly she would be in the middle of it all. She knew that they would not truly accept her and would probably treat her like a slave and she would have to bare it all quietly. She would also have to bare the hatred of her husband all her life and forget the prospect of ever having children even though she absolutely adored children and she knew that that would be too bad a fate to bear.

There was only one thing that rang in her mind, one thing that could save her from all this humiliation and suffering and that one thing was death. She reasoned that if she was dead, her father would not be able to make good on his threat of marrying her corpse to Cornelius right?

All she cared about was the fact that she would not be alive to go through such terrible things and that was the best option she could think of, it was the only option that could work.

She went to the door of her room, knowing that the guards and her personal maid was stationed there. She called upon her maid. "Danika, please come in. I need something." She called and the maid appeared in front of her in less than a minute.

"Please close the door behind you." She requested and Danika obliged. Immediately that was done, Ramona rushed to Danika and held her hand,her eyes brimming with tears.

"What is it princess? Please don't cry my lady, say whatever you need and I'll provide it." Danika requested, shocked and scared to see her very brave and always smiling princess in tears.

"Danika, I'm going to have to ask you to do something that is very dangerous, so dangerous that it could take your life. Will you do it for me?" Ramona questioned.

"Yes Princess, I am very loyal to you and I can do anything to prove my loyalty to you, even if it involves taking my own life." Danika pledged.

"Danika, I'm giving you an option to back out now because there's no going back once I set my plan in motion. Are you truly very loyal to me?" Ramona asked and though Danika was starting to become scared,she refused to back out.

"Yes Princess, request anything from me and I'll do it." Danika assured and Ramona nodded.

"Danika I need you to prepare the famous Alkanili poison and bring it to me." Ramona requested and Danika gasped.

"But princess, that poison is very lethal, it kills within seconds once consumed. Who is it meant for, who are you planning to kill your Highness?" Danika asked and Ramona resisted the urge to glare at her.

"You'll do as I say right now and without question." Princess Ramona ordered and Danika nodded, bowed and left to prepare the poison.

Ramona continued to pace about as she waited for Danika to bring the poison. A few minutes later, Danika finally arrived with the poison, it was in a small vial which she had hidden properly.

"Did anyone see you make the poison?" Ramona asked as she took the vial containing the black,dense liquid that spelled death to whoever consumed it.

"No Princess, no one did. I've discarded the things I used in preparing it." Danika reported. "Good." Ramona praised, closed her eyes and took a deep breath before opening the vial.

"Princess stop! Please don't tell you're the one who really wants to consume the poison. Please don't kill yourself, whatever the problem is I'm sure the King can sort it out for you once you tell him. There's no need to kill yourself, there are so many people who really love and adore you so please don't do this, princess."Danika pleaded before Ramona could drink the poison.

" My father is the problem, he wants to ruin my life! Danika,haven't you heard the royal announcement? He wants to get me married to that gay werewolf Prince and I just can't take it,I'd rather die than live such a miserable life. I refused and my father has me under house arrest, he plans to force me into marrying Prince Cornelius and there's nothing I can do about it because I've been stuck in this room for three days already and time is quickly running out. I really don't want to die but death seems like the only option for me right now,it's a better fate than the one I'll be subjected to in eleven days. So if you're really loyal to me,then you'll support me to the end and let me die."Ramona said, more tears pouring down her cheeks.

"I'm sorry Princess, I really am loyal to you but I can't let you end your life." Danika said and snatched the vial from Ramona's hand,pouring only a little of the poison before successfully covering it back up.

"Danika, give me that vial now!" Ramona ordered but Danika refused. "I'm sorry princess but I can't." Danika insisted and Ramona was left with no choice than to try to snatch it back from her.

"Danika give me that vial or I'll punish you!" Ramona threatened trying hard to take it from Danika. "I'm ready to take any punishment Princess but I won't give it back." Danika said, not willing to relent.

Danika realized that it would only be a matter of minutes before Ramona would succeed in obtaining the poison, she decided to call for help from the guards outside.

"Help! Help! Someone please help me! The princess is in trouble!" Danika called and the door banged open, three guards quickly entered the  room.

One of them quickly snatched the vial from Danika's grasp and a look of shock which quickly changed to anger registered on his face.

He gave Danika a thunderous slap that resounded in the room and the girl fell to the floor, grasping her left cheek which had turned a deep shade of red.

"This is the deadly Alkanili poison, how dare you try to poison the Princess, you insolent girl?! Now you'll die a painful death!" The guard thundered.

Ramona was instantly left dumbstruck by what had just happened, Danika was too scared to defend herself.

When Ramona finally realized the extent of the situation, she tried to reveal the truth but before she could say anything, her father quickly arrived the room with a couple more guards.

"Ramona my dear, are you alright? I heard what this maid tried to do and I promise you'll she'll die painfully." King Darius said and grabbed Ramona in a hug, she withdrew from the hug quickly. She had to correct this misunderstanding quickly.

"No father,that's not the truth. Danika didn't try to...." Ramona said, wanting to reveal the truth but King Darius stopped her.

"Silence! Don't try to defend the maid,I know she's been friends with you since childhood but this is clear treason and she must die for it." King Darius hushed her.

"Feed the poison to this traitor now!" He ordered. "No! Please don't, she's innocent!" Ramona pleaded and tried to stop them but she was help back by the guards.

The poison was forced into Danika's mouth and she was made to swallow it,the deadly poison wasted no time in taking effect.

Danika coughed and gripped her stomach, she screamed and stilled instantly, a green liquid gushing out of her mouth.

At seeing this, Ramona gained an invisible strength and detached herself from the guards,she rushed to where the cold corpse of Danika laid on the floor.

"Danika, no please don't. You can't die  please don't do this. You're always supposed to be loyal to me, remember? Please don't do this." She called in tears but all she received was silence from the dead girl.

She looked to her father with bloodshot eyes that had fire burning in them. "Father what have you done?! You've killed an innocent maid that has always only been loyal to me all her life. She didn't try to poison me, I asked her to prepare the poison because I wanted to commit suicide, I didn't want to be alive anymore so I wouldn't have to marry Prince Cornelius. Danika stopped me and tried to save my life by calling the guards but you've killed her!" Ramona revealed, more tears pouring down her cheeks in torrents.

"If that's the case then,it's really sad but there's nothing I can do because she's already dead. You should really learn from this dear daughter, nothing good can from trying to defy me,only death. Keep in mind that you're responsible for this girl's death. She has been loyal to you but you killed in her in the end with your stubbornness. Remember this and never repeat it again. As long as you keep being stubborn, innocent people will continue to die and only you will be responsible for all their deaths." King Darius said and left with most of the guards while the two left carried Danika's corpse to dispose of it.

"I'm sorry Danika, I'm really sorry I failed you." Ramona said and broke into a fresh round of tears. She had only wanted to make things right but her efforts had only worsened the situation.

Danika was dead and she was responsible. Danika had served her for many years, while they were both still children and Danika had become her first friend, even in the time when she had been just an annoying and bratty little princess, the girl had thought her most of the kindness she exhibited now but the girl was dead and Ramona blamed her death on Prince Cornelius.

Only he was responsible for all of this, he had come along and ruined her once perfect life and she would never forgive him for this, she would always hate him for this.
