Wedding Day
Ramona gazed into the mirror lazily as the maids worked hard on making her look like an angel,it was her special day after all. Well,it was supposed to be but it wasn't. One maid wove the side of her long hair into a braid and put it in a bun, suspending it with gorgeous hair clips and bobby pins.
Another was putting her wedding jewelry on her while yet another did her make up, making it light but captivating. She looked too beautiful for words and it could have been rightly said that any straight guy could have fallen in love with her instantly after he set eyes on her.
The maids complimented her and even her father came along and was delighted to see her looking so good in her wedding attire and showered a lot of praises on her but none of it could make her happy and she was too pained to even fake a smile. They had stolen away her smile the day they had decided to ruin her life by forcing her into this marriage and she regarded today as the day that her life had officially ended.
She knew that whatever happened from this day onwards was completely out of her control and she felt like a character in a book, a main character that the author seemed to despise for some weird reason and so had decided to do away with.
She couldn't care about anything that was going on around her because she was too numb to it all, her last effort of gaining control of her life by at least deciding how she wanted to die had ended badly, only leading to Danika's death so this time, she was resorting to something that no one could stop and it would make sure that no one except her would be able to get hurt.
This was her last attempt and it just had to work, she had been secretly starving herself for three days and she was grateful that no one had found out yet.
They just assumed that she looked quite weak and frail because she had been crying about the wedding and so, the king had asked them to cover up any signs of weakness on her face and they had been successful.
A maid attached her veil and straightened out her dress. As soon as that was done, another maid came to report that the groom and his entourage had arrived, so it was time for the wedding.
Though she was so reluctant, they helped her up and walked her to the wedding hall. As soon as she arrived at the entrance, wedding music began playing and the tune disgusted Ramona to no end, everything did.
Through her veil, she could see her supposed groom already standing at the altar but she couldn't see his face, not that she really wanted to so she sneered at him instead.
Her father held her hand in hand as her bridesmaid and the flower girls followed behind her.
"Ramona dear you look so beautiful today, do you know that?" Her father whispered to her and she glared at him but said nothing.
"You'll be quite a handful to your husband with this insolent behavior of yours. But you'd better be at your best behavior through out the marriage, I don't want you causing any drama or ruckus or else, as you ,there'll be consequences, dangerous consequences." King Darius threatened and maintained a smile, probably for the guests.
Ramona decided to remain silent, it was what was best for the time being and though she felt very lightheaded and her stomach growled, she would not let any of it show.
She wouldn't eat a thing even in her marital home until she had successfully starved herself to death and with the way she was currently feeling, she knew it wouldn't be long anymore. It wouldn't be long until her humiliation would finally come to an end.
She finally arrived at the altar and her father handed her over to the man who would become her husband in an hour.
She was finally able to see his face for the first time, even through the veil and though she hated it, she had to admit that he was breathtakingly handsome, but even with that, her hatred for him didn't go away. She only felt it increase as his face reminded her of Danika's death.
The priest quickly began the introduction. "Dearly beloved, we are all gathered here today to witness the union of two hearts..............." The priest began but Ramona zoned out, using her mind to shut out everything that was around her, she had had that ability when she was little and was very good at selective hearing.
The priest went on to do the readings and Ramona arrived back to reality when she felt someone touch her hand.
She turned to see that it was Cornelius and she swiftly withdrew her hand and glared at him.
"Stay away from me, will you? You've already troubled my life enough by forcing me to get married to me, isn't ruining my life enough for you, what more do you want?" She whispered to him harshly and he was about to reply but he couldn't as the officiant addressed them.
He talked to them about the responsibilities of marriage and the sanctity of the vows they would be taking and Ramona wished more than ever that she could disappear.
The next phase was for the both of them to exchange their vows and since it was a forced marriage, the officiant had to go with the traditional phrasing.
"Do you, Prince Cornelius Cross take Princess Ramona Valerian to be your lawfully wedded wife,to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse,in sickness and in health, in riches and in poverty, in beauty and in ugliness, till death do you part?" The priest directed the question at Cornelius and though he so much wanted to scream no, he remembered what was on the line and suppressed his feelings.
"I do." He simply said, the words leaving a bitter taste in his mouth.
"And do you,Princess Ramona Valerian take Prince Cornelius Cross to be your lawfully wedded husband,to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse,in sickness and in health, in riches and in poverty, in beauty and in ugliness, till death do you part?" It was soon Ramona's turn to answer the question which she felt was worse than been asked your last words on your deathbed.
Everyone waited for her to give her answer but she didn't. She turned to look at her father and she saw his lethal gaze on her, she looked at Cornelius who had a tentative gaze on her and she finally remembered Danika's death. Her head buzzed as the pressure of the situation overwhelmed her and the little bit of strength she had, left her and she quickly felt her consciousness slipping away, her eyelids became too heavy and she let them close in defeat.
She felt herself fall to the floor but she couldn't feel any pain, the last thing she saw was the face of her spouse and she felt herself surrounded by darkness thereafter.
