Raina
I never tried to go to my stepmom's funeral because I knew that Daddy and Rina would chase me away again. Even when Minerva was taken to her final destination, I didn't show up for them.
Although Minerva didn't treat me well when she was alive, I'm still sad that she's gone. Not for myself but for Rina. Even though we were enemies, we were still sisters. And I know how painful it is to lose a mother.
I, who never got to see my real mother, still feel hurt when I think about my mom being gone for so long. How much more is my sister, who spent so much time with her mother? I'm sure that because of this incident, her hatred for me has only grown stronger. And even my Daddy hates me now.
I took a deep sigh. I missed Evo. His seminar was extended by three days so he hasn't been home yet. I have no one to tell my resentment. No one comforts and listens to me. Ever since Evo and I got married, he has been my moral support. He may not have been my husband in the true sense of the word, but he has been my friend who is always ready to come to my aid and defend me from those who want to hurt me.
I want to call Evo or at least text him, but I stop myself from doing so. I don't want to disturb him, so I'll just wait for his arrival.
I have no one else to talk to at home except the maids, so I spend my time watching movies on my cellphone when I'm at home like now. It's Saturday today, and I don't have work at the office. I'm also too lazy to go out, so I just went on a movie marathon.
While I was watching a show, my cellphone rang several times. It was my ex-boyfriend. What could he possibly want from me? I wasn't planning to answer Greg's call, but in the end, I decided to talk to him. However, this will be the last time I talk to him on the phone because, after our conversation today, I will block his number so he can't call me anymore.
"What do you need?" I asked Greg lifelessly as soon as I answered his call.
"Finally, you answered my call, Raina," Greg said happily on the other line.
"What do you need from me?" I just repeated my question to him. I made it clear to him that I was only forced to talk to him.
"I realized that no matter what I do, you won't come back to me. Even if I regret it, it's too late. You're completely gone from me," Greg said with sadness in his voice.
"Can you just get straight to the point? Don't beat around the bush. Just tell me what you need," I asked him irritably.
I heard Greg take a deep sigh before speaking again. "I just want to say goodbye. I won't bother you anymore, ever."
I couldn't speak immediately at what he said. I was weighing how sincere his words were.
"Really? What makes you change your mind?" Even though he couldn't see me, I frowned. It still seemed unbelievable that he wouldn't bother me anymore.
"Like I told you, I realized that you're not coming back to me. I hurt you so much, so I deserve this kind of punishment. But I have one request for you, Raina. Can you please come here now? I just want to say goodbye to you in person. And also take back the things you gave me so there's nothing to remind me of you," he said at length.
"If you have any bad intentions against me, that's why you're asking me to come to your condo. I will tell you to stop it, Greg. J
And just throw away the things I gave you," I said to him coldly. How would I know if he's just pretending, and then when I go to his condo, I won't be able to go home alive?
"C'mon, Raina. I don't have any bad intentions towards you, okay? When you enter the condo, let the guard know that you're in my unit. You can also leave the door open so you can be sure that I won't do anything bad to you," he persuaded me.
I thought for a moment before I finally agreed to Greg's request. I had given him quite a few things. And some of them are valuable. It would be a waste of money if they were just thrown away. I could sell them at a good price.
After changing clothes, I hurriedly left the house. I encountered a maid on the stairs and asked me where I was going. I replied that I was just going nearby and I wouldn't be long.
In less than half an hour, I reached Greg's condo. The guard knew me, so he didn't ask what my purpose was.
I rang the doorbell once, and Greg immediately opened the door.
"Thank you very much for granting my last request, Raina," Greg greeted me with a smile when he opened the door.
"Where is the—" I was surprised when Greg suddenly hugged me without warning. "What are you doing, Greg? Let go of me right now!" I commanded him sternly.
"This is the last time I will hug you, so please allow me for a few minutes," he pleaded with me.
"I don't care. We no longer have a relationship, so you no longer have the right to hug me." It seemed Greg had no intention of letting me go, so I found a way to free myself from his tight embrace. But before I could do it, an angry voice suddenly spoke.
"What does this mean, Raina? Are you deceiving my son?"
My eyes widened when I heard the angry voice of my mother-in-law from behind me.
I pushed Greg away forcefully and turned to face my mother-in-law. "It's not what you think, Mom. Please, let me explain."
She gave me a strong slap. "I was ready to accept you as my son's wife. But I didn't expect that you were just deceiving him!" she shouted loudly. Her eyes were glaring and she was very angry with me.
Due to the loud voice of my mother-in-law, other occupants who heard her voice came out of their respective units. My face turned red with extreme embarrassment, especially when I saw that I had a colleague living in that condo. Unfortunately, his unit was close to Greg's, so she heard what my mother-in-law said to me. She was a gossiping queen in the company so I was sure that on Monday, I would be the topic of my coworker's conversation.
"You are mistaken, Mom. Let me explain, please," I pleaded with her while crying. My effort to improve my image in her eyes was wasted. I am completely ruined in her view.
"Don't call me mom, b***h! When my son returns from the seminar, you should divorce him immediately!" She angrily turned her back on me and walked toward the elevator.
"Did you plan this, Greg? Did you plan this to completely ruin me in front of my mother-in-law?" I accused him.
"No, Raina. I didn't plan this. Believe me." Greg shook his head firmly several times.
"I wish I hadn't believed what you said. I hate you so much. Never show yourself to me ever again," I firmly told him before I left him.
I chased after my mother-in-law but I couldn't catch up with her, so I went straight to her house. But I couldn't even get past the gate because her driver-bodyguard blocked me. With slumped shoulders, I just returned to my car and went home.
I'm sure that Evo will immediately hear about his mother's wrong assumptions. And I don't know if he will believe my explanation that Greg and I have no relationship anymore. That I'm not deceiving him.
