Chapter 25

Evo I stared into the darkness of the night. I was outside on the balcony of my room, sitting in my wheelchair while quietly sipping wine from the glass in my hand. I was wondering what Raina was doing now. Where she was staying now. I'm sure she was hating me now. I took a deep sigh and lightly tapped my hand on my thigh. If not because of these useless legs, I wouldn't have to— I cut off any thoughts running through my mind and then sipped wine from the glass I held with one hand. "Why are you outside your room, Evo? The cold night air might be bad for your health," said Tom. Deep in thought, I didn't notice him approaching me together with Pit. "Did you do what I asked you to?" I asked Pit instead of answering my friend. "Yes, Sir. Based on my investigation, there's a rumor spreading that your mom is not treating Raina well. But no one knows who started that gossip. Some say that no one else would spread it but Raina herself," Pit explained at length. "I don't think Raina would do that," commented Tom. "Continue," I ordered Pit. According to your mom's maids, they saw your mom and Raina fighting. Your mom reportedly drove Raina away, but they don't know the reason. I think maybe because your mom caught Raina and Greg hugging in the latter's condo. Your mom is very angry with Raina, so whenever she sees her, she drives her away." Pit paused for a moment before continuing. "I also saw your mom drive her away when she tried to visit you in your room. She was crying and begging your mom. She wanted to talk to you, but your mom didn't allow her." I clenched my fists tightly. Tom's investigation revealed that Raina might have killed my mother. Someone saw Raina getting out of my mom's car before my mom was found lifeless inside it. Raina's reason for killing my mom was because she discovered that my mom still had an affair with her ex-boyfriend. But Raina firmly denied it. At first, I was very angry when I found out. I was angry because the woman who taught me how to love killed my mother. I was angry because of intense jealousy. But when the storm of my anger subsided, I realized that the evidence seemed too obvious. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't believe that Raina could kill. Especially if the person she would kill was my mother. She's not that kind of woman. And if it's true that she still has a relationship with her ex-boyfriend, she wouldn't need to marry me just to give her child a father. That evidence was nonsense. That's why I made it appear that what happened to my mom was just an accident because Raina would surely be imprisoned. I didn't want her to be imprisoned and give birth to our child inside the prison. "I still don't think that Raina could do that kind of evilness. Someone wants to imprison her," said Tom, and we both think the same. "Pit. I want you to ensure Raina's safety. Protect her in secret. I didn't die, so I'm certain that the person behind the ambush on us will strike again. Since they knew that Raina was my wife and she was pregnant with my baby, they may use her against me," I firmly ordered Pit. "Don't worry, Sir Evo. I'll protect her for you," Pit quickly replied, then suddenly furrowed his brow. "If you're worried about her, why did you drive her out of your house?" I took a deep breath before answering Pit's question. "With my current condition, I can't protect her from my enemies. I just hope that my enemies have learned that I drove my wife away. So they would think that she was not important to me anymore." Pit suddenly widened his eyes when he realized what was happening. "So you didn't chase Raina because you believed that she killed your mother. Instead, you want to—" "Good evening, everyone. Why are you all here and seem to be discussing something serious?" Pit didn't continue what he was about to say when Rina suddenly arrived. I wonder if she heard anything from our conversation. "We weren't discussing anything serious. We were just seeing who among the three of us could count more stars," Pit replied to Rina, pretending to count the stars. Tom chuckled slightly at what Pit did. "I lost. You two win. I lost so I'm going home now. Please continue to count as many stars as you can." I just nodded at Tom. I secretly signaled Pit to leave as well to do what I instructed him. He immediately complied after understanding what I meant. "What are you doing here?" I asked Rina when it was just the two of us on the balcony. I couldn't bring myself to shoo her away because she saved us. I don't know if it's just a coincidence that her car passed by right after we were ambushed. But no matter what, I have to treat her well. However, if my suspicion is correct, I will never forgive her. "I missed you. That's why I'm here. And there's no one to take care of you. It's good that I'm here so I can take care of you," she answered with a smile. "Thank you. But I don't want to bother you anymore. I'll just get—" My words were cut off when she suddenly hugged my neck. "Please, don't stop me from taking care of you, Evo. This is my way of telling you how much I care for you. I want to prove to you that I truly love you. And I'm not like Raina who is not only a cheater but also a murderer." I clenched my fists tightly when I heard what Rina said. I really wanted to contradict her statement but I held myself back. I had no evidence to prove that her accusations against Raina were untrue, so I just didn't comment. "Well, thank you in advance. My debt of gratitude to you will increase," I said to her, subtly removing her arms wrapped around my neck. "It's good to have you by my side, Rina." Rina smiled broadly when she heard what I said. It was obvious that she was very pleased to hear what I said. "I'm really happy to hear that, Evo. Finally, you realized that I was good and the right person for you. And it's not too late yet. We can start to build the relationship that my half-sister ruined." I just smiled and nodded at her. I need her to stay by my side to investigate the doubts in my mind about her.
