Raina
Tired of thinking overnight about how I could make my mother-in-law believe me that I wasn't lying to her, I woke up almost noon. I immediately got out of bed and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and take a shower. I'm going to my mother-in-law's house now. Even if she throws me out again, I'll still explain to her.
After taking a shower, I immediately left the house even though my stomach was still empty. But when I arrived at her house, I learned from the maid that she was not at home.
"Where is my mother-in-law, Adela? Where did she go?" I asked the maid.
The maid's forehead suddenly furrowed as she looked at me. "Don't you know what happened to Sir Evo, Ma'am Raina?"
My chest suddenly heaved with intense anxiety at what I heard. "W-What happened to Evo?"
"Sir Evo is in the hospital in Baguio because they were ambushed on their way back to Manila. When Ma'am Minerva found out about it, she immediately went to Baguio to visit her son," Adela explained.
My body suddenly weakened when I heard the bad news. I hadn't turned on my cellphone and television yet so I didn't know anything about that news.
Without saying goodbye, I left my mother-in-law's house and hurriedly got into my car. I was going to Baguio to see Evo. He needed me as his wife.
I was going far so I decided to take out food from a fast food restaurant. I didn't feel like eating because of the bad news I heard but I still took out food so that in case I got hungry on the way, I wouldn't have to stop.
I drove for more than five hours without stopping before I reached the hospital in Baguio where Evo and his bodyguards were taken. They all sustained injuries, according to the news I read on social media when I opened my cellphone.
When I arrived at the hospital where Evo was taken, I was devastated to learn that he was already in Manila. It turned out that my mother-in-law had taken a helicopter to Baguio and Evo, along with Pit and Tom, were transferred to a larger and more well-equipped hospital in Manila.
Even though I hadn't had a chance to rest yet, I traveled back to Manila again. I checked on social media to see which hospital my mother-in-law had transferred Evo to.
I had no choice but to get news about Evo on social media because the three of them weren't answering my calls.
After another five hours, I finally got back to Manila. I immediately went straight to the hospital to visit Evo. But as I got out of my car, my vision suddenly turned. I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my stomach along with a warm liquid that crawled down my legs.
My eyes widened when I saw blood flowing down my leg.
"My baby." My chest heaved with intense anxiety and worry for my baby's safety. Because of my intense worry for Evo, I forgot that I was pregnant.
I groaned as the pain I felt in my stomach intensified. I shut my eyes tightly and bit my lower lip because of the intense pain.
"Miss? Are you okay?" I heard a man ask me.
"Help me, please," I weakly replied to the man who asked. I opened my eyes, but my vision was dark, so I closed them again.
"You're bleeding! Hold on. I'll take you to the doctor." These were the last words I heard before I completely lost consciousness.
"Uuhm," I groaned softly as I regained consciousness. I slowly opened my eyes. I saw a handsome man sitting on the edge of the bed while smiling at me.
"Hi. It's good that you're awake. You're already here inside the hospital. How are you feeling?" the man asked me.
"My baby? How is my baby?" I asked the man in a panic instead of answering his question.
"Don't worry. The baby is safe. He's holding on tight so you didn't lose it," he replied with a smile. "But the doctor said to avoid getting too tired because next time you both might not be so lucky."
I couldn't help but shed tears of joy when I heard that my baby was safe. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if something bad happened to him.
"Thank you very much for saving me and my baby, Mister," I sincerely thanked him.
"My name is Mike Delgado. You can call me Mike."
"Thank you again for saving us, Mike. I don't know how I can repay you."
Mike seemed like a kind and good person. He always smiled and had a cheerful face. It seemed like he brought good vibes to the person he was talking to, which made me smile too.
My smile faded when I remembered Evo. I tried to get out of bed but Mike immediately stopped me.
"I need to go out, Mike. My husband is here in this hospital. I need to visit Evo." I felt a deep concern for Evo's condition again. Until now, I still don't know what his condition is. Is he safe or is his life in critical condition?
"Evo Mondragon? Is he the Evo you're referring to as your husband?" Mike asked me with a frown.
I quickly nodded at him. "Yes. My mother-in-law transferred him here from the hospital in Baguio."
"I read about him from social media. Although he is not yet conscious, his life is said to be safe from certain danger."
I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard the good news. "I want to visit him. Can you find out where his room is?"
"Okay. I will do that. But you can't get out of bed yet. You can visit him some other day," Mike told me. I knew that it was for my safety and the baby that he didn't want me to get out of bed so I didn't insist. The important thing was that I found out that Evo was safe.
The next day, the doctor allowed me to leave the room but said that I couldn't leave the hospital yet. He said that I still needed to stay in the hospital for one or two more days to ensure the safety of my baby.
I carefully got out of bed and went out of the private room I was in to visit Evo in his room. I already know where his room is because Mike told me.
I saw police officers guarding outside Evo's room. The car he was riding in was ambushed and those bad guys were definitely going to come back. So to ensure Evo's safety, my mother-in-law hired police officers to guard him.
I slowly walked towards Evo's room but suddenly stopped when I saw my mother-in-law arrive. My forehead furrowed when I saw Rina with her. My sister must have sensed my presence so she looked where I was. A smile formed on her lips as she looked at me. A smile that suddenly made me nervous because it seemed like she wanted to tell me something.
