Raina
"I'm sorry, Ma'am. Ma'am Emilia strictly instructed us that no one can visit Sir Evo except her and Ma'am Rina only" The two policemen guarding Evo's room stopped me from entering the room.
"I am Evo's wife. Why can't I enter and visit him while other people who are not even related to him are allowed by my mother-in-law to visit him?" I asked the police.
"I'm sorry, Ma'am. But as I said, we are just following orders given to us. Please, don't make it hard for us," the policeman pleaded with me. I also pleaded with them that I wouldn't stay long inside, but no matter what I did, they really didn't allow me to enter Evo's room.
"The police have already said that you can't go inside, Raina. Why are you still insisting? Do you want me to drag you out of the hospital?" my mother-in-law angrily scolded me from behind.
I faced her and pleaded. "Please, Mom. Let me visit Evo. Just for a moment," I tearfully begged her.
Evo's mother slapped me and angrily pointed at me. "Didn't I tell you not to call me that anymore? Ever since I discovered that you were deceiving my son, you're no longer my daughter-in-law!"
"That's not true. I never deceived Evo," I insisted to her. She was very angry with me because she had the wrong idea about me. But how can I convince her that I'm telling the truth if she won't even listen to my explanation?
"You're so shameless to even show up here, Raina. Mrs. Mondragon already knows your true nature, so no matter what you do, she won't believe you," Rina interjected. She was smirking at me—the kind of smirk that showed how pleased she was with her success in achieving what she wanted. Could she have something to do with why my mother-in-law was at Greg's condo? Did she plan what happened? Was she conspiring with Greg in all of this?
Suddenly, anger surged in my chest as I thought about the possibility that the two of them had planned everything to completely ruin me in front of my mother-in-law. I couldn't believe it was just a coincidence that my mother-in-law was also in the building. What could she possibly be doing there at that time?
"You and Greg planned this, right? You planned this to make my mother-in-law get mad at me," I said to Rina through clenched fists.
"Let's go inside, Rina. Let's not waste our time on that woman," my mother-in-law said seriously to Rina.
Rina gave me a mocking grin before turning around and following my mother-in-law. I also followed them and insisted on entering Evo's room.
"You can't enter, Ma'am," the two police officers stopped me again.
Evo's mother returned and pushed me hard. If Pit hadn't suddenly arrived and caught me, I would have surely fallen to the floor.
"Remove that woman from in front of my son's room, Pit. If I come out and still see her, I'll have her dragged out of the hospital," my mother-in-law sternly ordered Pit before turning around and entering Evo's room again.
"Come, Raina. Come with me." Pit assisted me and brought me to his room, which was just beside Evo's room. "Sit down first."
Pit got a bottle of water and handed it to me. My trembling hand accepted it. After drinking the water, the tightness in my chest eased.
"How is Evo, Pit? Why hasn't he woken up yet?" I asked him. Pit was still wearing a hospital gown, with a bandage on his head. He also had scratches on his arms and face.
"Don't worry because he's okay now. And he already woke up earlier. He just fell asleep again due to the medication injected into him," Pit replied.
"Do you know who ambushed you on the road? Didn't you have any police officers with you on your way back to Manila?"
Pit shook his head. "We didn't expect what happened. Sir Evo heard about what happened to you, so he immediately insisted that we return to Manila. And while we were on Kennon Road, suddenly someone blocked our vehicle and showered us with bullets. When they thought we were all dead, they quickly left," Pit explained at length.
My chest tightened again. I was the reason why Evo was ambushed on the road. He wanted to return to Manila to help me because he thought I would be imprisoned.
"Why is my sister together with my mother-in-law? Why can she enter Evo's room while I cannot?" I asked again, wiping away tears.
"Because Rina saved us. She was the one who called the ambulance to take us to the hospital. If she hadn't arrived, we might not have made it to the hospital," Pit explained again.
What was Rina doing on Kennon Road? It seems too much of a coincidence that she arrived right after the ambush happened.
"Help me get into Evo's room, Pit. I want to talk to him," I pleaded with Pit.
"I'm sorry, Raina. But if Ma'am Emilia ordered that you shouldn't be allowed inside Sir Evo's room, there's nothing I can do. I'm just working for them," Pit said sadly.
My tears fell again. I walked out of his room silently. I didn't know what to do. Should I just wait at home until Evo comes back so I can talk to him?
After being discharged from the hospital, I just went home. I had no choice but to wait for him at home. I hoped that he wouldn't immediately believe his mother in whatever she would say about me. And I hoped he would listen to my explanation.
I waited for a week for Evo to come home. When he arrived, I immediately ran outside to meet him. But I suddenly stopped when I saw that he was with Rina. And most of all, he was sitting in a wheelchair while my sister pushed entering the gate.
