Chapter 26

1286 Words
Raina I am standing in front of the window, gazing into the darkness of the night outside. After leaving Evo's house, I rented a small apartment. I also resigned from my job. I couldn't bear seeing people whispering to each other as soon as I entered the entrance of the company where I worked. I have savings and it could support me for a year. As I expected, it spread within the company that my mother-in-law caught me meeting with my lover. And I was blamed for her death. They all cast mocking and insulting looks at me. Not one of them even asked me if the rumor spreading was true or not. I couldn't stop my tears from falling. I feel like the world is so unfair to me. Not a single person is defending me. I took a deep breath and then firmly wiped away the tears that fell from my eyes. I promise this will be the last time I cry over the world's unfairness to me. If no one believes in me, I don't care anymore. As long as I know my conscience is clear. I caressed my slightly rounded belly with my hand. "Don't worry, baby. Even if your father isn't here, I'll strive to give you a happy and beautiful future. We don't need your father who can't defend us," I said to the baby in my belly. After staying by the window, I closed it and decided to sleep. I woke up late because sleeping was so nice. Even though my room and bed were small, I still slept comfortably. I cleared my mind of anything that could make me sad or weigh heavily on my chest. When I woke up, I immediately prepared brunch. I ate fried rice, nutritious vegetables, a banana, and milk. I need to stay healthy. I can't afford to get sick because there's no one to take care of me. After eating, I took a shower and changed clothes. Today is my check-up for my baby. I'm also out of daily vitamins, so I need to get a new prescription from my doctor. When I arrived at the hospital, my doctor attended to me right away, so I finished quickly. In just a few moments, I was back in my car driving back to my apartment. While I was driving, I noticed that it seemed like a black car was following me from behind. I intentionally slowed down my car to confirm if the car behind me was indeed tailing me. However, when I slowed down, the black car overtook me. I couldn't help but shake my head. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Who would follow me anyway? I simply shrugged and continued driving. When I saw a drugstore, I pulled over to the side of the road and bought the vitamins prescribed to me by my OB. I noticed fresh vegetables and fruits were being sold in a stall beside the drugstore, so I decided to buy some as well. Afterward, I returned to my car to head back to my apartment. While I was driving, I suddenly felt a strong impact from something hitting the rear of my car. If I hadn't quickly turned my steering wheel, my car would have surely collided with the oncoming car. My eyes widened as I glanced at the rear of my car. I saw a black car behind me. And if I'm not mistaken, it's the same black car I saw earlier and thought was following me. So I wasn't wrong in my initial thought earlier. That car is indeed following me and has bad intentions towards me. I screamed loudly when the black car hit my car again. Even though my hands were shaking and my knees were weak from fear, I managed to step on the accelerator to speed up my car. The car behind me also sped up and seemed to have no intention of leaving me alone. I am crying because of a mix of fear and worry. I am scared and worried, but not for myself, rather for my baby. I don't know why the person driving that black car is attempting to harm my life. I haven't wronged anyone. In fact, I am the one who has been wronged by people. When the car behind me hit the rear of my car again, I lost control of the steering wheel. My tire climbed onto the low gutter of the road. My eyes widened when I saw that I was about to run over two children playing in front of their house. To avoid running over the two children, I quickly turned the steering wheel to the right. I chose to crash my car into a high pile of sand that I saw. Even though I was wearing a seatbelt, my face still hit the steering wheel. I felt dizzy, so I closed my eyes and held my head. I suddenly opened my eyes when I heard loud knocks from the window of my car. Outside my car, I saw Pit's face, Evo's bodyguard. My vision was darkening, but I managed to unlock the car door. After that, my vision completely darkened, and I wasn't aware of what happened next. The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was a white ceiling, so I knew I was inside a hospital. Maybe it was Pit who rushed me to the hospital. I quickly felt my belly with my hand. I secretly thanked God that my baby was safe. He was still in my belly. My belly wasn't hit by anything hard because I had placed a soft throw pillow between my belly and the steering wheel. "It's good that you're awake, Raina." My body suddenly froze when I heard that familiar voice speaking inside the room where I was. I searched for the source of the voice until my eyes found Evo sitting in a wheelchair and looking at me. Beside him was my half-sister with an indescribable expression on her face. What is he doing here? Maybe Pit called him and informed him about what happened to me. Instead of being happy to see him again, I felt anger. "What are you doing here? Did you come here to make sure I'm still alive or not?" I asked him coldly. "I came for my child in your womb and not for you," he replied to me. His expression was blank, so I couldn't see any reaction from him. Whether he was happy that I was still alive or if he was disappointed. I slightly smirked at what he said. "Your child? Are you still sure that the child I'm carrying is yours?" Finally, I saw a reaction on his face when it darkened upon hearing what I said. "She's right, Evo. Who knows if the child in her womb isn't yours? Maybe it's Greg's child, and they planned everything. They planned to make you take responsibility for the child so they could have a share of the Mondragon's wealth," Rina interjected. She really wanted to poison Evo's mind. "You're such a great scriptwriter, Rina. I think you should change career now," I said sarcastically to my sister. "You're not welcome here, so please leave." "When you get out of the hospital, you'll live at my house again," Evo said as if he didn't hear what I said. My blood suddenly boiled at what I heard. He kicked me out of his house and now he's showing up to tell me I'll live in his house again as if nothing happened? What does he think of me? An animal that can be kicked out and brought back whenever he wants?
