Evo
"Nurse Nissi is beautiful and kind. Isn't she your ex-girlfriend, Sir Evo? Why don't you get back together with her? You won't have any problems if she is your girlfriend," Pit suggested to me as we entered the door. We just came from the hospital because I had an appointment earlier for my leg check-up.
Just like my previous check-up, my ex-girlfriend Nissi took care of me. Nissi was my girlfriend for three years. But we broke up when she left to study abroad. Since then, we haven't had any contact with each other. However, when I was hospitalized after the ambush, our paths crossed again. It turns out that the woman works as a nurse at the hospital where Mommy brought me.
Pit was right. Until now, Nissi was still kind and beautiful. But being kind and beautiful is not enough for me to have a relationship with her again. Because I no longer have feelings for her. So, as I told Tom, Nissi and I can’t get back together.
"Can you shut your mouth? Did Sir Evo say he still likes Nurse Nissi?" Dave scolded Pit.
"But just like Raina, Nurse Nissi is also kind and beautiful. And besides, it's obvious that she still has feelings for Sir Evo," Pit insisted, refusing to back down to Dave.
I was about to tell Pit to stop pairing me with Nissi, but when I entered the door, I saw Raina approaching us. She was dressed up, so I was sure she was leaving the house.
I didn't know if she heard what Pit said or not. But there was no indication on her face that she heard what my bodyguard said, so I thought maybe she didn't hear it.
"Where are you going?" I immediately asked Raina. Even though we live in the same house, we rarely see each other. She's always just inside her room and keeps herself locked in.
On one hand, I also want her to always stay in her room because first, she's safe in her room. And second, as much as possible, I don't want her to see me in this condition.
"I'll be going to the mall. I just need to buy something," Raina answered my question. She just passed by me and didn't even bother to glance at my face.
"Take Pit with you so—"
"Don't bother. I don't want too many companions. Besides, don't you have a bodyguard specifically given to me so I have someone with me whenever I go out? That bodyguard is enough for me," she replied to me while facing away as she stopped in front of the door.
"Okay. Take care," I just said. It seems I can't persuade her to take either Pit or Dave with her.
Raina continued to exit through the door as if she hadn't heard my last words.
"Didn't you notice that Raina seems to have changed her attitude, Sir Evo?" Pit commented after Raina had left. "She's no longer the cheerful and always smiling woman we used to know. She's now cold, serious, and aloof. Just like you, Sir Evo. You suddenly changed after the ambush."
I took a deep sigh upon hearing Pit's words because he was right. Raina's attitude indeed changed abruptly. She's now cold and aloof. And there's no one else to blame for her change but me. I made her change. I hurt her feelings. I'm certain she hates me now. And if it weren't for the safety of the baby in her womb, I'm sure she wouldn't live in my house again.
"I will make it up to her after we solve the problem. As of now, I have to bear her cold and aloof treatment of me," I replied to Pit before rolling my wheelchair into the living room.
I went up to my room and rested. Since my feet were tied to the wheelchair, I had a small platform made next to the stairs that lifted me up to the top without having to go through the stairs. In that way, it is more convenient for me to go down and up to my room.
When I entered my room, I immediately took the bottle of expensive wine sitting on the bedside table. I poured some into the glass next to the wine and drank it right away. My plan was just one shot, but that didn't happen. I kept seeing in my mind Raina's cold treatment towards me, and it hurt me. I deserved this because it was my fault that she became like that.
I almost finished half of the bottle, so I felt dizzy. I closed my eyes until I didn't realize I had fallen asleep.
I don't know how many hours I slept. I only woke up when I heard Pit's panicked voice while he was shaking my shoulder hard.
"What's the matter?" I asked Pit in a hoarse voice.
"The bodyguard with Raina just called me, Sir Evo. He said their car was ambushed while they were on their way home," he reported to me.
My eyes widened and it felt like my chest was punched hard by what I heard. I felt extreme worry for Raina and our baby. In my extreme worry, I forgot that I couldn't walk, so when I tried to stand up, I suddenly fell down on the floor.
"Damn, s**t!" I couldn't help but curse as pain suddenly shot up from my knees to my thighs.
"Are you okay, Sir Evo?" Pit asked me worriedly as he quickly approached and helped me sit in my wheelchair.
"Don't mind me. Let's go. I need to see Raina right now," I firmly ordered him, even though the pain on my face was indescribable.
To make things faster, I let Pit push my wheelchair. When we got out of the house, my car was already prepared, with Dave as the driver. Dave hurriedly got out and helped Pit load me into the car.
"Hey! Where are you going? Why are you in a hurry?" asked Rina, who had just entered the gate.
No one paid attention to Rina's question because both of my bodyguards hurriedly got into the car and quickly drove it out of the gate.
We were still a few meters away from Raina's stopped car; I could clearly see the many bullet holes in the car. I became more anxious. I couldn't forgive myself if something bad happened to her.
I felt relief when I saw that Raina was safe. She was standing and talking to some responding police officers. Dave stopped my car in front of Raina's damaged car, and then Pit got out to talk to my wife. Moments later, Raina got into my car.
As soon as Raina got into my car, I immediately hugged her tightly. The fear and worry I felt earlier was overwhelming. I was afraid that I might find her lifeless. I don't know how I would accept it if what I feared came true.
