My jaw ached from clenching my jaw so hard as I looked over the patients. Despite the ointments and tonics, none of them seemed any better. None of them had woken up overnight, which I had been hoping to see when I had arrived. After all, waking up would prove it was helping, at least a little. At least, no one else had died. I could console myself with that, but it was a weak consolation. I was failing as much as the Ashfather’s healer had.
