He was still watching me. I could feel the Ashfather’s gaze on me as we walked through the halls. Not always. He would watch me, then look away, shaking his head every time. He was trying to convince himself it wasn’t what he thought it was, and I wasn’t about to tell him he wasn’t right. I needed him to think he was.
