"You sure you can? We don't have to rush things," Harper asked worriedly. I looked at her for a moment and turn my attention to what I'm doing.
"Yes, besides Dad wants me to go as soon as possible," I answered while zipping my bag of clothes.
I heard her sigh, "Fine, I'll be going with you anyway," she said as she helps me to fix my other stuffs.
"Harper, do you think I'll enjoy my stay there?" I asked. I'll be going to a place I never been before. I don't even have an idea about the Philippines, well Harper on the other hand had. She lived in the Philippines before together with our mother.
I've been discharged from the hospital earlier this day and tomorrow, I'll be flying to the Philippines with my sister Harper. Our Father was the one who decided this. He said it's better if Harper will go with me. I'm just worried about her. I'm always in the kidnap-for-ransom situation but she never been. If she comes with me, she might be put in danger.
"You look horrible here," I turn my head towards Harper's direction and she's holding and looking at my passport.
"Yeah, right," I answered. She giggles and sat down in my bed. She's still holding my passport.
"I really like your name. Stone Martin, it's really nice," she said.
"Oh really? Why call me Rocky then?" I asked jokingly. This girl is the only one who calls me 'Rocky' as my nickname. She said Stone and Rocky are just the same. Psh, Rock is the synonym of Stone. Not Rocky.
"I told you the reason, I won't repeat it," she said and sticks her tongue out. I just laughed at her but stop immediately when my wound hurts.
"Ayan, tawa pa," she suddenly said as she stood up and help me to sit down in my bed.
"Stop the alien talk, you know I can't understand Filipino well," I said. Ah! My wounds really hurt.
"Well, sorry. You should be used to it. That will be the language in the place where you'll be staying," she said.
Yeah, I know. I'll be going to a different place. I hope there will be nothing to worry about on my stay there, on our stay there.
*****
"Again," I massage my temple. We're really doing this until we land?
"You said Pinoy's can communicate using English," she nodded. "Then why do I still need to learn this?"
I'm sitting next to my sister, Harper. We're on our private plane and we're heading now to the Philippines. I don't know if she's just bored or whatever but she just came up with the idea of 'tutoring' me. She's teaching me the Philippines' language, Filipino.
"Yes, but that's not an excuse for you not to learn their language," she grabbed my left arm and pulled me closer to her.
"We'll be staying there for we-don't-know-how-long, okay? So, it'll be best for you to learn the language."
"As you say," I said with no energy tone. When are we landing? I want to escape from here.
"Good! Now, again! Repeat what I said," I groan as a complaint but still end up following her. Somethings I'm thinking if she's really a younger sibling or an older one, she knows how to control others.
For the whole time of our flight, she taught me basics words. Good thing the Philippines uses the same alphabet as we.
"Come on Rocky! We're almost done!" I tightly close my eyes.
"Harper, can't you let me rest? We'd been doing this for the whole time we're flying! Let's just continue this after we settled," I'm really feeling dizzy and I just want to rest, to sleep!
"Hmm, okay!" Finally! "But don't sleep!"
"And why not?" I asked while my eyes are still closed.
"Just don't!"
"Harper," I called with a warning tone.
"Just take a nap! Don't sleep! They say that the brain easily remembers or stored information when you take a nap after studying. So, don't sleep! Just take a nap," I turn my head towards the opposite direction of her. Harper and non-ending facts and psychology say.
"Rocky!"
"Fine! Ten minutes! Let me take a nap for ten minutes!"
"Okay!" Finally! Silence for real!
I woke up when I felt someone was calling me. I lazily open my eyes; it took me a while before I realize who's in front of me.
"Yes?" I sleepily asked.
"Sir, we'll be landing anytime soon now. Please, fasten your seat belt," I slowly comply with what she said.
"Also," I looked at her and follow the direction she's looking. It's Harper who's in deep sleep.
Tch. I thought she would wake me up after ten minutes? It's obviously more than that. I look back at the flight attendant.
"I'll take care of her," I assured her.
She nods her head, "Okay, Sir." I nod back and she walks away from us.
I turn to Harper and fastened her seat belt for her. This girl isn't the type to easily wake up by something.
After making sure she's good I sit comfortably and just wait for us to land safely.
I looked in Harper's direction when I feel like she's moving. I watch how she acts and I immediately stop her when she's about to remove her seat belt.
She sleepily looks at me, "We're about to land, don't remove it."
"We are? Already?" I just nod as I feel the familiar feeling when we were taking off.
After the private plane finally lands the new head of security briefly discusses the route we'll be taking. Now that I think about it, my father hadn't said anything about my bodyguard since the time he mentions it to me. I'm pretty sure even my current security doesn't know about it since my Father said it himself, that who my bodyguard, he'll guard me secretly.
We head out right after and then went straight to the car waiting for us. I actually not worried about myself, I'm worried about Harper. I can see she's not that comfortable with this kind of set up. She and her mother's security isn't tight as mine.
I wrap my left arm around Harper's shoulder, reassuring her that everything is fine. She looks at me and smiles. I nodded as a response.
When the security is set the car starts to move. As we are heading out of the airport I can't help but think about what kind of life I'll be facing here.
It took us an hour before we finally arrived at Harper's mom's house. There is a big gray wall like a gate. The house structure does not seem like an easy target for unwelcome guests. Compared to our house in America, this is much simple but the security isn't that bad.
As we enter I notice the beautiful lawn they have. This place screams peace far from what I used to live.
The car stopped in front of the door entrance. I waited for security to open the car for us. As I stepped out of the car I felt a strange feeling. I looked around the area, I'd experience this quite often so I'm pretty sure that someone is watching me. Is it the secret bodyguard? I hope yes. I don't want to cause any danger as soon as I arrived.
"Stone?" I look in the direction of that familiar voice.
"Mother," I smile as soon as I see her. She hugs me lightly, I guess being careful to my wounds, so I hug her back.
"I miss you!" I can feel that she really meant it.
"Ditto," I step back but still holding her. "You look better than before," she caresses my face.
"Don't say that as if I'm miserable when I'm with your father," she said looking straight into my eyes.
'Cause you are. I badly want to blurt out those. But I can't. I just gave her a timid smile.
"Oh, Stone..." Mother wasn't able to finish her sentence because of Harper.
"Ma, nandito rin ako," I instantly had a headache as I heard her speak in Filipino.
Yeah. I really need to learn this language quickly or else Harper will nag at me nonstop, volunteering to teach me.
"Oh, anak," I simply move to the side so they can hug one another. "Let's continue talking inside," she both looked at me and Harper. I nod and follow them inside.
We went inside and it's bigger than what it looks like outside.
"This is as big as your mansion in America but I'll make sure you'll have a comfortable stay here," I look at Mother who's smiling at me.
"It may not be as big as our house but I feel more comfortable here," I said back.
"That's a relief. Go to your room now. You'll start to attend class on Wednesday so you don't have much time to rest," I suddenly remember that I'll be entering a new school.
They said it's an international school with high measure security. The school sounds quite good too. I just don't remember exactly its name.
"By the way, how about your wounds? Don't you feel any pain?" I saw how worried she is in her eyes.
I smiled at her, assuring her that I'm fine, "I'm fine. Don't worry."
She nodded, "Harper will take you to your room. I'll just prepare foods here, okay?"
I hugged her before Harper and I went to the second floor. Harper showed me my room, my things were already up and placed in the cabinet. I don't even notice how they manage to bring my stuff here.
As I looked around the room I notice something. I guess my eyes were fixed on it quite long 'cause Harper seemed to notice it.
"That will help you call the attention of the people here. The blue button is for maids, the red is for security, and the black is for an emergency. Each room, even in the dining, living, and corridors has that. It is spread around the house and each one has a different alarm tone so the security and maids know where to go," she explained.
"Isn't red should be for an emergency?" I just thought of it. "And the maids and security must be very intelligent to distinguish each alarm tone."
"Do you really think we can just take anybody without even training them," I looked at her and she's looking at me as if I'm so stupid to say that latter part?
I just shrug my shoulders and went to my bed. I slowly sit down and eventually lay my back on it.
"You must be tired, I'll leave you now so rest," Harper said while walking towards the room door.
"Yeah, you should too," she nodded at me before she opened the door.
"By the way," I stared at her waiting for what she'll say. "Mabuhay! Welcome to the Philippines!"
I got shocked by the loud voice that she had but ended up bursting into laughter. This sister of mine is really cute and funny. She just smiled brightly at me then wave as she closed the door.
As soon as I'm alone, I stopped laughing. Now, I can feel how tired I am. I can also feel a little pain from my wounds. This must be a result of hours of traveling.
I just close my eyes. I just have to sleep to gain back my energy. As I was closed to be asleep when I abruptly open my eyes. I immediately sat up, I flinch a little due to pain but I didn't mind it.
I immediately ran out of my room and went to the room in front of me. I'm sure of what I'd heard. I heard Harper's voice. Her voice seemed to be shock and nervous.
I opened the door as soon as I hold the knob. I froze at what I'm seeing. Harper's mouth being covered by someone's hand while she's pinned firmly on the wall.
Fuck it! Not my sister!
