New school, new life, new journey. I loosen my red tie before I get out of our car. I looked at the big building in front of me. Today marks my first day at my new school. Bretly International University. That name can be seen at the front of this building.
"Let's go now," I looked at Sigmund who's standing next to me. We were introduced earlier this morning. He was the one who passed me all my school stuff. Uniform, bag, books, so on. I nod my head at him and then follow him. He said he'll direct me to the directress office for formality.
As we're walking, I'm roaming my eyes around the area. The inside wasn't that bad either. The corridors are spacious and neat looking. I stopped when I saw that he stops.
"Are we here?" I asked. I looked at the door on our side. That was quick.
"No, not yet," I noticed how he stand in front of me as if blocking me.
"What's going on?" I noticed how people near us are starting to stay at the side of the corridor. I flinched a bit when Sigmund steps backward, moving to the side. I hit my back at the door where we stop.
"There's a usual commotion."
"Usual commotion?" I tried to take a peak but this guy is tall, he's blocking my view entirely.
"It's better to see for yourself," after saying that a guy went sliding on the floor, he stopped right in front of us.
He used the force from his upper body to stand back on his feet. Just a second after he got up, another guy appeared and makes an attack. A fight? Inside the school premises? They started to attack and then block the other. The entire time, Sigmund was in front of me, blocking me for possible sudden involvement.
"Is no one going to stop them?"
"I told you, this is a usual commotion. School authorities won't do anything as long as they're not killing each other," I frowned at his words.
"What kind of school is this?" they won't get involved as long there's no killing? Are they for real?
Sigmund glance at me over his shoulder, "You'll know soon."
The two guys brawling starts to move, they're not in front of us anymore. "Start walking, I'll guard your back until we're out of reach."
I sigh before doing what he asked me to. His back was facing mine as we walk away from those two. He immediately moves in front of me when we're quite far. We walk in silence for a while until we reach the dead-end of this corridor. There's a big door in front of us now, nothing compared to the size of the door earlier.
I watch as Sigmund knocks on the door, he then opened the door for me, letting me come in first. A spacious room was behind those doors. The four walls of the room have large bookshelves. There's a big table in the center with a swivel chair and couches on both sides of it. The person sitting behind the table stood up and walk towards me.
"Good day, Mr. Drei," he slightly bowed his head. "Please, come this way." I thought he was talking about the couch but I was wrong. He walked to the sidewall, and then pulled a book.
I can't help but get surprised when the bookshelves covering the wall on that side started to move apart. There, a smaller door can be seen. I watched as he swiped a card to the door's lock. A beep sound was heard signaling that the door is already open. He opened it, stand on the side of the opened door, and then looks at me.
"This way, please," he even does a hand movement signaling me to go inside.
I looked at Sigmund who's now standing beside me. "Please, go inside. I'll definitely be with you."
Since he says so, I went in. the lights automatically lit up as we walk. It's like there's a passage or a tunnel behind that small door. The sound of the closing door behind us can be heard. I looked in the direction we came from, but instead of the closing door, it was Sigmund whom I saw. This guy is really tall; he can easily block my view. I turn my face forward. Just where are we heading through this?
I squirt my eyes a bit when a bright thing starts to be visible at the other end of the passage. I walk fast to it since I can't take the brightness anymore. I lowered my head, I lift it up when my surroundings became brighter. I saw that we reach the end already and that we're in another room.
"Wow!" I can't help but exclaim. This is definitely bigger than the previous room. I frowned when I notice the displays on the wall. I looked around and yes, they're all deadly weapons. Why do they have this? In a school?
"Welcome to Bretly International University, Mr. Drei." I looked around to search for the one who spoke.
From the shadows, a middle-aged looking man appeared. He's wearing a black suit and has a small smile on his face. He walked and stops just a few steps away from me.
"I am Lenard Bretly, the successor of this university. It's a pleasure to finally meet you," he slightly bowed his head before looking at my eyes directly. His stares send a weird feeling to me, I just had chills from his single stare. "I'll be brief with the introduction of our university, so you won't be late for your first class. Please, listen carefully." He paused for a while before he continues, "Bretly International University is a high-end university for high profile students. But to be specific, this university is a high ground prison."
I frowned at what he said, "High ground prison? What do yo—" he raise his right hand making me stop talking.
"I asked you to listen carefully, by that I meant your full attention. No questions will be entertain." I'm starting to get confused. What's up with this school? I shut my mouth and just let him do the talk.
"As I was saying, Bretly I.U. is a high ground prison. All types of high profile students are here. All have different reasons why they're here. But there's only one reason why all of you got accepted. Money." The last word surprised me but it doesn't really bother me, more like, it confuses me. I can't understand what he's trying to say.
"You are our cash cows; we won't let anyone harm our cash cows. There's one golden rule within this place. You're not allowed to kill anyone. That's all for the brief introduction of the school," he looked at Sigmund who's quietly listening to us. "Escort your VIP out."
I honestly don't want to leave yet. His 'brief introduction' is too brief I can't fully process what's this school really is. But it's not like staying any longer will make him talk more. I already put an end to this meeting, and he doesn't entertain any questions.
"Yes, Sir," I noticed how he slightly bowed at him and then stretch his arm to the direction we went in. "Let's go now."
I glanced one last time to Mr. Lenard Bretly, "It was nice meeting you." He smiled a bit before I turned my back at him. We walk the same passage we went through earlier.
Sigmund knocks on the door when we reach the other end of the passage. Just a second passed and it opens immediately.
The man earlier was there. "You may now proceed to your class." He handed me a piece of paper. I skimmed through it, it's my class schedule.
"Thanks," I said then passed him by. Sigmund opened the big door for me and then we went out. I passed him the schedule I received. "Here, can you help me out?"
He takes it from my hand and checks the schedule. I saw how he checked his wristwatch before speaking, "Your first class will be on the SciLab. We need to go to the white building, west side."
"I don't get it. Just take the lead and I'll follow." He just nods his head before doing what I asked.
As we head out of the building, a 10 passenger golf cart stops in front of us. It has a led sign on the windshield saying 'West Side'. Sigmund motioned me to ride on it so I did. He sat beside me and the golf cart starts to move.
"Aren't you going to tell me something about this school? Honestly, I'm confused about how things work here." I have so many questions on my mind that I don't even know how to start.
I looked at him when he reaches something from the inside of his suit. He handed it to me and I opened it. It's a floor map of the entire university. I also saw some guidelines on the corner.
"Bretly I.U. is a large scale university in terms of land property. This place is divided into five major places. The place where we just left is the main building. The main office and main library can be seen there. Most of the students you saw there were just wandering around that place. The other four major places are; the West Side, East Side, North Side, South Side, and the Gymnasium. Different faculty offices are distributed on each side of buildings so you'll definitely be going to each of them. You can travel from one place to another by riding this cart."
"And what's special about this place?" I closed the map he gave me and put it inside my pocket. "I still don't understand why my father enrolled me here."
"As I said earlier, it's better to see for yourself."
Just what's more can I see here? I don't know how long was it but we finally reached our destination. I just follow Sigmund. Like the usual when I'm transferring school, there's always an introduction for the new student.
"Drei," I said in front of my classmates. I was asked earlier this morning not to give away any more information aside from my last name.
"Okay Mr. Drei, please sit at those vacant seats," he pointed out the two side-to-side tables at the back. Both Sigmund and I went and sit there. I'm actually wondering why he's not asked to introduce himself. Was he an old student here? If so, he just really accompanied me earlier? I should ask more about him later.
Hours have passed and it's pretty much like a usual university. I would have thought of this as a normal place to study if I haven't seen what's inside the main building earlier. Was it the main office here, I wonder?
I looked at the back of my hand when I felt a sticky thing touches it. A drop of milk was there. I checked the direction it came from.
"Stupid! You told them about the party?!" a brunette girl shouted at another girl filled with milk on her face. She's bowing her head to the brunette girl.
I diverted my gaze from them, "Is it natural here to have those bullies?" I asked. I still haven't forgotten about the usual commotion I saw earlier.
"They're not bullies. They're just proving who's their dominance." Sigmund answered.
"Dominance?"
"Noticed their ribbon?"
I take a quick glance at those two girls. "Yeah?"
"Noticed the differences in color?"
I tried to recall the color that I just saw. "The brunette one has red, the other girl has gray?" I don't want to take another look at them so I tried hard to recall them.
"Those difference in colors tells about the social standing. Each of us is wearing a necktie for boys, and a ribbon tie for girls but they all differ in color. Gray is for maids and butlers. Black is for bodyguards. And navy blue for the young masters."
"What the hell?" that's all I can say about what he said. I check the tie I'm wearing and the one he's wearing. Mine is navy blue while he has black. This information somewhat makes me speechless.
"As for the college students, since they're not in unison in terms of uniform, they use a circled pin. The design of it is Bretly's logo. The color differs according to the social standing, the same as the one applied to us."
I shake my head hearing these. I don't know what to react to. I noticed how he pressed the earpiece he has on his right ear. It's a bodyguard thing.
"What is it?"
"We can go now; your private car is here." I stood up from my seat and walks past the brunette girl and her maid.
"Hey! Drei!" I stopped when the brunette girl suddenly appeared in front of me. "Where do you think you're going?" she crossed her arms over her chest.
"Home?" I answered, confuse.
"What 'home'? You're going to have a party with us! We prepared a welcome party for you!"
"Wha—" I stopped myself from asking. There's no point in asking how they prepared it when they just met me today, after all, they're high profile persons too. I sighed. "You don't really have to."
"We won't if you're not part of the high rank but..." she reaches out to my tie. "...you are one of us."
"I'm not." I snatched my tie away from her grip. I'm starting to get irritated with the social standing this school has.
She shrugged her shoulders, "Whatever. It doesn't really matter whether you attend or not. We'll still continue the party."
"In other words, welcoming me is just a façade."
She smirked before handing a calling card, "Just in case you want to party with us. Meet us at this address at 7 o'clock." She waved her fingers before shouting to the girl earlier. "Move now, slowpoke!"
I walked passed her, I don't want to see any more of her actions and hear any more of her words.
