Chapter 10

1007 Words
“You see when I first met Stefan we were in university together studying business studies. We hit it off straight away and married as soon as we graduated.” Jane began her story as she sat down across from Roma. “ We started off married life with no lies, or so I thought but I started to notice strange things Stefan did and he kept disappearing at odd times of the day.” Jane stopped to let Roma digest  everything so far.  “One night he had just got home and I was fuming at him and demanded him explain what he was up to. He looked adorable standing there like a boy that got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Stefan looked me directly in the eyes and stated that he had a secret that he needed to tell me. I remember sitting down and he sat across the table at me. He was playing with the tablecloth before he took a deep breath before speaking. When I first saw you, Jane, you took my breath away and I knew we would be together forever. You had this intriguing smell that intoxicated me to the point if I didn’t have you I would’ve went mad.” Jane looked at Roma and watched her listening intently to her story.  “ He continued telling me that he was the leader of a group of people who lived here and he wanted us to move there to their leaders. I was thinking as he spoke that he had gone mad. It was after he described this little community that I agreed to move here. You see Stefan’s father lived here with his wife and their son. They passed everything to Stefan when he graduated. So to answer your question we do own all these properties, Roma.” Jane saw Roma’s mouth drop as she was shocked by what she had heard. “You’ll catch flies if you keep your mouth like that. Anyway I knew there was still something he wasn’t telling me. I sat there stunned with the latest revelation I was about to be blown away by his final admission.” Jane took a deep breath before revealing the secret that she has been keeping from her sister. You see Stefan is the leader of a vampire community and he is the head vampire.” Jane said quietly. “I knew that my future was with Stefan but the more I thought about what he had told me the more everything made sense. After a week of ignoring Stefan and thinking about our future, I came to the decision that changed my life completely. I asked Stefan to turn me so we would always be together.” Jane watched Roma take everything in and just sitting there not saying anything.  “Roma, Stefan turned me the same night that I asked him to turn me. It’s OK we only drink blood when we need it. We don’t kill people or anything like that. We are happy to get our blood from the blood banks to contain the thirst. The reason people have been avoiding you is that you are human and so are your boys and they are keeping their urges under control so you all will be safe. Lucien was the first one that came to us to ask for refuge from the outside world. Anyone that wants to live in a vampire’s land needs to ask permission to live there by the leaders.” Jane sat silently for a long time watching Roma to see how she will take everything that she was told. Stefan knew that it was a risk telling Roma about vampires but Jane was certain Roma would be able to handle it.  “So you are both vampires?” Roma asked for the hundredth time. She couldn’t get her head around the fact that her sister and brother in law are vampires and own the land that she lives on. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” Roma felt hurt that her sister had not told her her secret.  “We didn’t want to scare you with this plus you were broken when you came to us.” Jane said quietly. Roma knew she was weak and broken when she arrived in Scotland but she had started to get some of her spirit back and he confidence is coming back slowly. “ What happens when a vampire falls in love with a human? Do they have a special connection? Did you feel any pull towards Stefan?” Roma asked wishing she had what her sister had. A hit of jealousy rushed through Roma’s body. She kept thinking about Lucien and was he attracted to her?  “When a vampire falls in love it’s forever as no one can fulfil the longing that they have for that person. A human feels the pull towards a vampire less than what a vampire feels. After Stefan turned me the pull became so strong in me that I knew he would be able to fulfil everything I wanted in a partner.” Jane explained. “Our connection is our strength but also our weakness as we would die for each other, which puts us at a disadvantage against our enemies.” Roma couldn’t believe that Jane would sacrifice her life for her husband. Why couldn’t Frank be like that.  Roma still loved Frank to some extent as he is the father to Grant and Conan. She couldn’t help but think of Lucien. What if he felt the pull towards her? “Behave yourself” Roma told herself.  Roma had to ask Jane more about Lucien. “Jane does Lucien have his true love yet?” She asked hoping that Jane would tell her what she wanted to hear.  “Why the sudden interest in Lucien? Is it because my sister is lusting after him?” Jane teased laughing. “No, he hasn’t met his true love yet. I’m sure he will eventually tho. I must admit whoever gets him is a very lucky girl. He comes over every so often for some company. He is Stefan’s right-hand man.” Jane said winking to her sister.
