The Fractured Wife

Chapter 11

Roma and Jane were sitting out on Jane’s porch watching Conan playing with his friend Charity. They had become the very best of friends. They shared everything between them. Roma had met Charity’s parent’s for the first time when both kids wanted to have a camp out in Roma’s back garden. Charity’s parents were happy to let Charity sleep over the following weekend. The whole community know knew that Roma knew they were all vampires. A lot of them didn’t avoid her now and she had made so many friendships over the last few months. 

“Don’t look now but there’s your fancy man heading this way.” Jane nudged Roma looking at Lucien walking their way. Roma had managed to bump into Lucien a few times since that first meeting and she always ended up coming up with an excuse to run away from him. He looked so good today with his hair styled messily and wearing a checked shirt with black jeans showing off that amazing butt of his. “Sis if you keep staring your going to be drooling next,” Jane stated when she saw Roma staring at Lucien. 

“Hey mum, can I go into town with some friends this afternoon to hang out?” grant asked plonking himself down on the wooden steps. “Who you going with?” Roma asked him curiously. “Just John, Mick their girlfriends and Sion.” Roma heard the way Grant said Sion’s name. “So you like Sion then?” Roma asked grant with a smirk as she watched him go bright red. “MUM! She is a friend and that’s it.” Grant shouted when he jumped up. “ I’m going to go to my room” as he stormed away.

“That was fun.” Roma smiled to herself. 

Lucien didn’t know what he was going to do. This woman consumed all of his thoughts and he was constantly having cold showers. When he left his house this morning he was determined to ask Roma on a date. “Risking rejection here my friend,” his conscience said to him. “ I still need to ask her so I might be able to see if she feels the same,” Lucien said to himself. Ever since she bumped into him he can’t get her scent away from him. Roma was the one for him and he will do anything in his power to make sure that she knows that. 

As he walks towards Jane’s house he sees Roma sitting on the porch with Jane laughing and smiling. Looks like she was teasing her son Grant about a girl. Sion was a nice girl who lived next door to Lucien. “Grant and Sion were made for each other by the way they act around each other.” Lucien mutters to himself. As he reaches the house Roma screams and stare in horror as a car comes  round the corner of the street and hurtles its way to where Conan and Charity are playing. Conan only being human wouldn’t get out of the way fast enough. 

“Conan!” Roma screams and starts running towards her son. Conan looks up confused as to why his mother is shouting his name. He turns the way his mother is pointing and sees the out of control car coming towards him. He can’t move as he’s paralysed with fear watching the car coming towards him. Before the car hit him Lucien snatched Conan from his position and got him to safety before the car crashed into one of the garden’s gates. 

“Conan, are you alright sweetheart? Are you hurt? Conan look at me.” Roma grabs Conan and starts searching frantically over his body for any injuries. “Oh, darling your OK thank goodness. I thought I would have lost you if Lucien wasn’t there to save you.” Roma was ugly crying as she hugged her boy to her tightly. “Thank you so much I can’t imagine what would have happened if you weren’t here.” She looked up at Lucien with a grateful expression crossed with pain on her face. Roma knew she had feelings for this man but she didn’t know how to express herself. 

“It was nothi..” Lucien never got a chance to finish what he was going to say before Roma threw her arms around his neck hugging tightly thanking him over and over again for saving her on. “Now is your chance Roma” something in her mind was screaming to her. Before she knew what she was doing she crashed her lips unto Lucien’s lips. She didn’t know why she kissed him but as they kissed it felt so right. Roma felt Lucien relax into the kiss and actually kissed her back. His strong arms wrapping themselves around her waist and lifting her up.

“MUM! What’s going on? Why are you kissing him? Why is Conan crying?” Grant shouting as he ran out of their home after hearing all the commotion. “By the way, Ewww” Grant stated calmly bringing his mother back to her senses. 

Roma broke the kiss and picked up Conan and ran back into her house with Grant right on her heels. “Mum, what the hell were you doing? Conan could have been seriously hurt and I see him crying with Auntie Jane and your eating that dude’s face off.” Grant ranted on about catching his mother swapping saliva with a near enough stranger. 

“Grant calm down. I checked Conan over every inch of his body and he wasn’t harmed. Lucien was passing by and managed to get Conan out of the way in time. I don’t know why I kissed him but only wanted to show him how thankful I was for saving your brother’s life. It was only meant to be a hug, I promise you.” Roma tried explaining to her son but he was still angry that he caught his mother smooching the local heartthrob. 

After Grant had finished his tantrum he went into the town with his friends. Conan was staying over at Charity’s house tonight as he wanted to tell her all about what happened. After Conan left Roma fell to her knees and cried hard for everything that has happened to her. She started screaming as she let all the pain out that she had been holding in for years. She wrapped her arms around herself and cried till she fell asleep. When she awoke she felt the hardwood flooring in her hall she checked her messages and saw a text from Grant. 

“Going to stay at Mick’s tonight. C U 2 moro”

Roma felt like she had failed her sons by getting her personal emotions in front her son’s safety. She couldn’t go on like this she needed to let Lucien down gently and focus on her sons. Roma was about to message Lucien saying that she couldn’t be near him when the doorbell rang.

“Who can that be at this time of night?” Looking at the time she noticed it was just after 11 at night. “Who is it?” Roma shouted through the door. She looked through the peep-hole and sighed as standing on the other side of the door was LUCIEN.

Lucien didn’t know what happened after he saved Conan’s life. He just stood there as Roma threw her arms around his neck hugging him and thanking him for saving her son. He wasn’t expecting the hug much less the kiss that she gave him. “What a kiss! Man, I needed a cold shower after that” Lucien told himself. He couldn’t believe how powerful that kiss was and he missed her lips on his when she broke the kiss. Lucien laughed to himself “can’t believe we were making out and got caught by her son.” After that kiss Lucien definitely knew Roma was his. He would be her everything and be the best father figure that he could be to her boys. 

“I need to see her and tell her I’m the one she needs and wants as I need her and want her,” Lucien told himself as he threw open his front door and ran to her door before he decided against it.
