The Fractured Wife

Chapter 2

The next morning Roma went down to the reception and asked if she could use their phone to call her sister Jamie in Scotland to see if they could go there. The night before Roma sat Grant down and decided to let him know of the decision she had come to whilst showering. 

“Grant I need to let you know what I have decided to do and I would like you on my side,” Roma said hoping her son will agree to her plan. 

“OK mum tell me what you have decided and we can plan out what we are doing. I really don’t want to go back to that hellhole and stay with him.” Grant said sitting down across from her. 

Roma took a big breath and started to tell Grant what she decided. “ I have decided to phone my sister in Scotland and see if she will help us. I haven’t seen your Aunt since I married your father and we haven’t spoken since as your father used to tell her that I was either out or busy, even rho I wasn’t.” Roma paused long enough to let grant get over the anger that he held towards his father. Roma continued, “I have always wanted the best for you and your brother and I’m going to ask the manager if I could use their phone to call Jane and then when I come back we will know if she is willing to help us.”

The manager was kind enough to see that Roma was desperate and when she offered to pay for the call he led her to the phone and left her to her privacy. As Roma dialled the number she prayed that her sister hadn’t changed her number as she can’t remember the last time she called Jane. She held in a breath while the phone rang on the other end and finally the call was answered.

“Hello,” her sister said speaking into the phone. Roma felt the tears gathering in her eyes as she heard her sister’s voice on the line. 

“Hello, Jane? It’s me, Roma. I need to talk to you about me and my boys to come and visit.” Roma said quickly before Jane had a chance to say anything else. 

“Roma is that you? Oh my goodness! How have you been? How are those nephews of mine?” Jane started throwing questions at Roma until she had run out of breath. 

“Jane listen I left Frank and we need a place that we can go to and be safe. I can’t get into detail on the phone but please I’m begging you to help us.” Roma had started to cry but needed her sister to agree to them going to her place. “ We left last night but I need to get my boys away from America and far away from Frank. Can you help us?” Roma said desperately as she said the last bit. She didn’t know what she was going to do if Jane said no.

“Of course I’ll help you come here. Do you have everything that you need to get to the airport? I’ll talk to Stefan and arrange a place for you all to stay here.” Jane said hurriedly as she tried to get a list together to get things into action. She had a secret that she would tell Roma about when she got to Scotland. “I’ll meet you at this end and we will sort things out. I’m so happy that you called Roma and I will help you as best as I can.”

Roma was relieved when she hung up the phone and ran back to the room that her boys were in to get everything together and get to the airport as fast possible to start their new life in Scotland. When she was in the room she saw Grant and Conan dressed and sitting on the edge of the bed watching early morning cartoons. 

“How did it go mum?” Grant asked when Roma entered the room. When grant saw the smile on his mother’s face he knew that the phone call was successful. “Conan guess what.” Grant turned to his brother who was sitting beside him. Conan was getting excited as he knew that Grant had a secret and he wanted to know what is.
