“i…I wasn’t hiding, I was just…” Rebecca bit her lip as her back pressed up against the walls, her head felt hazy. This was crazy.
"Is that so?" He said, his voice low and dangerous. It was smooth and deep, like velvet wrapped around steel. It was the voice of a man who was accustomed to getting his way, who was used to people bending to his will.
Isaac, being the bold man he was, reached towards her face, taking the loose strands of her hair and tucked it behind her ear as he leaned closer to her. For a fleeting moment, she had thought he would kiss her. Rebecca shivered when his finger gently caressed her cheek.
Images of the time they had been in the elevator they had been in popped up in her head. This moment was a perfect replica and reminder as she anticipated his next move.
“you don’t need to feel so shy around me darling. Its just the two of us now…” he purred into ear, his fingers tracing down the side of her face, sliding down to her exposed neck, he leaned even closer now, blowing a feather like kiss in the same place he had marked her. He wanted to sink his teeth into her soft skin again, But he didn’t do that.
Rather, he continued to invade her personal space, Rebecca couldn't think of anything else, but how wrong this all felt, this was potentially her boss and this was his work place. What would people think about this?!
But from the way he was behaving, Isaac didn't seem to care and Rebecca felt a knot tie in her stomach grow tighter. She couldn’t shake the feeling that he was playing games, but who was she to say no?
“we were intimate…d…does that not- “ Rebecca placed her delicate hands on his hard chest, attempting to push him away from her, but in one swift movement, Isaac had both her hands pinned high above her head by his left hand which wore the expensive Rolex Watch, while the other that held her file circled down her waist, pulling her closer and he gave a small dismissive shake of his head, as if to clear away the remnants of their conversation.
“bother me? Not at all, you came here just like everyone else on your own accord to apply for a position in my company. You’ve been interviewed by Elise, and I’m sure she has a lot to report back to me about it all. Remember Ms. Hartley, my employees are my priority, and this is a professional environment…”, he said in a single breath, his voice taking a more formal, businesslike tone as suddenly let go off her and took a step back, just in time to hear the elevator doors dinged open. …
”, Now. Go home, get some rest and wait for an email in the next couple of days.”
He moved towards the elevator door, his stride confident and purposeful, as if their exchange had never happened.
As Rebecca watched Isaac walk away, his powerful frame exiting the elevator, she felt an overwhelming mix of emotions. Anger and confusion warred with an undeniable desire that had been ignited by his touch. How dare he dismiss her like that, after the intimacy they had shared? Yet, at the same time, she couldn't deny the effect he had on her.
She took a deep, shuddering breath, willing herself to regain composure. She needed this job, and she wasn't about to let Isaac's Mercurial behavior jeopardise her chances. Squaring her shoulders, she followed his lead out ash and marched out of the building, her heels clicking purposefully on the marble floor. She would go home, get some rest, and await the email he had promised. But one thing was certain—this was far from over between them.
Tried and exhausted, Rebecca took the train back home. She could barely think straight anymore. Today's ordeal had taken a toll on her mental and emotional health so much so that she wanted nothing more than to take of her heels and soak them in her foot spa.
Climbing up the wooden stairs of her apartment, the keys in her hold jingled lightly as she pushed the house key into the lock, as though on que, Luna was already waiting by the door, meowing softly as she came to welcome her cat Mon home.
Rebecca chuckled softly as she picked the fur baby up, cradling her in her arms as she shut the door behind her.
"I missed you too, Luna" said Rebecca as she stroked Lunas fur, getting a humming like purr of approval. To Rebecca, Luna was her everything. She never yelled at her, nor judged. And most especially, she never made her feelings things she could not explain.
Rebecca groaned as her thoughts wandered back to Issac.
"Oh Luna, I'm such an idiot..." Rebecca whined as she plopped into her couch. She was an emotional mess at the moment and she didn't know how to deal with it all. She wanted to scream!
"Ahh! Do you know what this means!?" Rebecca asked, her voice laced with anxiety as she spoke to no one in particular, the cat meowed with concern, but could hardly understand what was going on with its owner.
"...I effectively f****d my boss. No god, this is... definitely the universe playing a cruel joke on me" Rebecca tried to convince herself, but was failing miserably at it. "...you know what! T...this isn't all that bad, right? Luna?" She turned to the fact to find her curled up on the arm of the couch asleep. Rebecca let out a deep sigh as she leaned back into the couch realising how dumb she must have sound, ranting to her cat about something that probably didn't matter. "... you're right. There have been worst things before. This is nothing. And like he said, I went there for an interview, just like everyone else and now all I need to do is wait..."
And wait, she did. Because The next few days passed in a blur for Rebecca. She checked her email obsessively, refreshing her inbox every hour, hoping to find some sign of acknowledgement from Isaac or his company. Yet, there was nothing. The silence was deafening, and with each passing hour, her anxiety grew.
Finally, on the fourth day, an email arrived. It was brief and impersonal, stating simply that she had been offered the position and should report to HR on Monday. There was no mention of Isaac, and the email offered no clues as to whether their previous encounter had had any effect on the hiring decision.
Rebecca felt a wave of relief wash over her—she had gotten the job. But beneath that relief was a lingering unease. What would it be like to work with Isaac after what had transpired between them? Would he pretend it never happened? Or would he continue to play these games with her, keeping her guessing at every turn? She didn’t know, but one thing was certain—she would find out soon enough.
Rebecca couldn't wait to share the good news with her best friends, Anne and Jacklin. She pulled out her phone and dialed their numbers, eager to hear their voices.
"Rebecca!" Anne, the ever bubbly redhead exclaimed as soon as she picked up. "Did you get the job?"
Rebecca grinned. "I did! I'm so excited. But, honestly, the thing...just feels kind of... weird."
Jacklin joined in on the group call, "Oh? What's weird about it?"
"Well..."
Rebecca proceeded to recount the previous day's of her encounter with Isaac and the tension she felt throughout the beginning and end of the interview. Her friends listened attentively, interjecting with their own questions and comments.
"Are you for real baby?," Jacklin said, "why didn't you tell us about this tea?"
"Hoi s**t! Rebecca do you know what this means? You f****d your boss!" Anne squealed excitedly, so loud that Rebecca and Jacklin had to pull away from the speakers. But Rebecca didn't share the same sentiment Though.
She sighed. "Don't even remind me, Anne. This is a disaster!"
"Or maybe not..." Jacklin said, pulling both Anne's and Rebecca's attention.
"What do you mean?" Rebecca asked with a hint of suspicion in her tone.
"I mean, it could potentially blossom into something more. When do you resume work?"
"Monday..."
"Well then ladies. I think it's time we go for a little shopping spree..."
Anne and Jacklin exchanged mischievous glances before bursting into laughter, causing Rebecca to roll her eyes in mock annoyance.
"I knew you two would find some way to turn this into a shopping trip!" Rebecca laughed, shaking her head.
"Hey, it's not just any shopping trip," Anne said with a grin. "It's a strategic mission to make sure you're armed and dangerous when you walk into that office on Monday."
Rebecca couldn't help but smile at her friends' enthusiasm. "Alright, fine. You guys win. But promise you won't let me spend all my savings on new work clothes!"
"No promises," Jacklin said, winking at Anne. "But we'll try our best."
As they laughed and made plans for their shopping adventure, Rebecca felt grateful to have such supportive friends by her side. No matter what happened with Isaac, she knew she could always count on Anne and Jacklin to be there for her.
As Rebecca made her way to the office on Monday morning, butterflies fluttered in her stomach as she smoothed the sleeves of her shirt while she tried to push away the memories of her intimate encounter with Isaac, focusing instead on the excitement of her first day at a new job.
When she arrived at the office, she was greeted by a sea of unfamiliar faces and thanks to the little wardrobe change she had, everyone was definitely looking her way.
Her long, dark hair cascaded down her back in loose waves, framing her face and accentuating her striking features. She had chosen a sleek, form-fitting dress in a deep shade of burgundy that clung to her curves and showcased her hourglass figure. A pair of stiletto heels added a touch of sophistication to her ensemble, while her makeup was subtle yet alluring.
She forced a smile, trying to project confidence as she introduced herself to her new coworkers. But in the back of her mind, she couldn't help but wonder where Isaac was. Was he avoiding her? Or was he simply too busy to bother with the new hire?
As the day progressed, Rebecca threw herself into her new work, determined to make a good impression. But no matter how many emails she answered or spreadsheets she analyzed, she couldn't shake the feeling that Isaac was somewhere in the building, lurking just out of sight. The tension was palpable, and she found herself jumping at every sound, wondering if it was him.
