Chapter 21
Zachary embarked on several measures to calm Gustavo in the condominium. He opened the blinds, encouraged the men to remove their shoes, played classical music from a cable television station, and served protein shakes. Zachary also adopted a languid pace, deliberately, once they were inside the condo unit. He seated Aleksey on the couch beside Gustavo to avoid a scenario that would feel like a confrontation. Zachary sat across from the young men, tilted backward in a reclining chair.
"You see, this does not have to be painful," Zachary said.
"You pledged I would be sheltered with you," Gustavo replied, "and I believe you."
