Max slowed down as they neared the waterfall, glancing over his shoulder to make sure Jamie was still by his side. The light-brown wolf was wobbling a few steps behind him, tongue hanging out as he panted heavily. Max could barely remember his first shifts, but he knew some wolves got dizzy and sleepy after each one, especially the weaker ones who couldn’t hold their form for long. The run was barely a few minutes long, but Jamie looked at the brink of his strength. And he couldn’t have that, not tonight.
