Max waited impatiently with his back leaning against the old walnut tree that was spreading its enormous branches over a third of the yard behind the Omega Quarters. Some of the branches were hanging low enough for somebody to hit their head in, heavy with fruit that was almost ready for picking, so even someone with excellent vision would have a hard time spotting him if he wasn’t moving or if he stepped behind the broad trunk of the tree.
