The mansion's grandeur was matched only by its eerie silence at night.
Ethan, unable to sleep, wandered the darkened halls, his footsteps echoing off the walls.
He found himself drawn to the library, where he'd often seen Ava working during the day.
As he entered the library, he noticed a faint light coming from the shelves. Ava was there, her eyes fixed on an old book.
Ethan approached her quietly, not wanting to startle her.
"Ava, what are you doing here so late?" he whispered.
Ava looked up, her eyes wide with surprise. "I couldn't sleep, sir... Ethan. I was looking for something to read."
Ethan's gaze fell upon the book in her hands. "What's that?"
Ava hesitated before showing him the cover.
"It's an old family history book. I found it hidden away."
As Ethan flipped through the pages, he noticed strange symbols and illustrations. "What's this?"
Ava leaned in closer. "I don't know, but I feel like it's trying to tell us something."
Suddenly, the lights flickered, and the room grew colder. Ava shivered, and Ethan wrapped his jacket around her shoulders.
"Let's get you back to your quarters," he said, his voice low and protective.
As they walked, Ava mentioned whispers she'd heard in the night, whispers that seemed to come from nowhere.
Ethan's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with possibilities.
The Cursed Shadow
Ethan's parents' disagreement about Ava grew more intense.
His father, Mr. Harrington, seemed intrigued by Ava, while his mother, Mrs. Harrington, was adamant that she was unsuitable for their son.
"Ava's just a servant, Ethan," Mrs. Harrington said. "She's not worthy of our family."
But Ethan saw something in Ava that his parents didn't.
He saw a kind soul, a brilliant mind, and a beauty that shone from within.
