As Ethan and Ava walked back to her quarters, they discussed the strange symbols in the book.
Ava mentioned that she'd seen similar markings in the mansion's hidden passages.
"I think they're more than just decorations," Ava said, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Ethan's interest was piqued. "Let's explore the passages and see if we can find more clues."
As they explored the passages, they stumbled upon Mrs. Jenkins, the mansion's housekeeper.
She seemed to know more about the Harrington family's history than she was letting on.
"You're poking your nose into things you shouldn't, young ones," Mrs. Jenkins said, her voice laced with a mix of warning and curiosity.
Ethan and Ava exchanged a glance. "What do you know about the symbols?" Ethan asked.
Mrs. Jenkins hesitated before speaking. "Those symbols are part of an ancient ritual. They're meant to ward off evil, but they might also be connected to the curse."
Deepening Romance
As Ethan walked Ava back to her quarters, the tension between them grew thicker. They stood outside her door, the hallway dimly lit.
"I had a great time exploring with you," Ava said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Ethan smiled, his heart racing. "Me too. I'd like to do it again soon."
Ava's eyes locked onto his, and for a moment, they just stared at each other.
Ethan's hand brushed against hers, sending shivers down her spine.
The Curse's Shadow
As they parted ways, Ethan couldn't shake off the feeling that they were being watched.
He looked around, but there was no one in sight.
Suddenly, he heard a faint whisper in his ear: "You'll never be hers."
Ethan spun around, but there was no one there. The whisper seemed to come from all around him.
