11 Early Monday morning after I had given the flash drive to Carrie for safe-keeping, I received a phone call. “Dr. Garrick, this is Professor Higgins calling,” he said, a strong nasal tone to his voice. “A mutual friend said you might need some cleaning…janitorial work.” “Yes, I do. When can you come by?” “I assume you have employees?” “Yes. Yes, I do.” “When might they leave today?” I double checked my desk calendar. “Uhm…five…five o’clock today.” “Does five-thirty work for you?” “Perfectly.” “See you then.” Besides the meaningful glances Brie and I shared that spoke volumes, we didn’t talk about our relationship, choosing to flow with the natural order of things.
