I was looking around the hallway lost in the thought of that mystery guy who met me yesterday. Where was he ? My eyes were searching for him.
"Miss Bridget", a voice said from behind me.
I turned around to see who it was. It was him. Yes that same guy from yesterday.
"Umm. Hi. Uh- I'm sorry, I didn't get your name yesterday", I asked sheepishly.
"I'm Arthur Wellington", he said and smiled.
"You totally bailed me off yesterday", I said not making it quite obvious.
"My apologies Miss Bri...",he said but I cut him mid-sentence.
"Call me Clara", I said and extended my hand for a handshake.
He held it carefully, his skin was soft and cold.
"Well Clara, I had to rush for I had promised my family a time for the lunch", be said.
His manners were excellent. I had never seen such a humble guy like him rbefore.
As we walked together to our class our elbows slightly brushed and I blushed. He glanced at me sideways and smiled. I turned even more red at his perfect smile.
Later in the day, I was sitting in the principal's office with police officers. They were trying to figure out about that night. I detailed them with every bit of information that I had. They told me that my friends were attacked by some kind of forest animal because their bite marks were very different and their flesh was torn apart from their neck. I had then asked them that how would the animal attack their necks only? They said that some predators attack the necks to silence their prey. But I knew from the silence of the forest that no animal was possible to survive in such an area. My friends were attacked by an animal inside the house and I wasn't even eaten alive when I was outside the house in the forest.
The theories that they claimed were not at all adding up.
Disappointed I got up and went to the cafeteria to have my lunch.
I felt like crying out loud and shakingly sat down on one of the benches, when I felt a hand on my back.
I looked at the person with teary eyes. It was Arthur.
"Are you okay, Clara ?," he asked keeping his tray next to mine.
"I'm fine", I said wiping my tears.
"You don't look fine at all. Is there something bothering you", he asked and passed me a handkerchief.
I acknowledged him and took his handkerchief.
"No it's nothing. It's just that I've been through a lot lately. Just that, nothing to worry about", I replied smiling wiping away the rest of my face gently.
"I'd appreciate that if you ever feel yourself in the pits just let me know. Maybe I'll be of some assistance to redeem your melancholy", he said and smiled.
I nodded and smiled too.
Arthur and I walked out of the school together.
"So the officers said some predator did that", he said apprehensively.
"Yes but I am not able to believe them", I said.
He nodded and asked, "Can I drop you home?", as we reached his car somewhat averting the theme.
"Actually, I have a part time job right now so I'll head there", I said.
"If you don't mind I can drop you there", he said.
"I can't bother you with this", I said.
"Please I insist", he said opening the door of the car to me.
I sat inside. Even though we didn't have much to talk, I felt bewildered in his presence.
"Thanks for the ride", I said bizarrely and got out of the car.
"See you tomorrow", he said.
"See you", I said but I didn't want him to go yet.
I wanted him to stay with me, I don't know what was about him that kept me giving prominence to him. I desired to restrain him all to me.
But soon, too soon he drove off.
What was this sensation that I savoured in his presence?
It wasn't love, I knew for I had just met him twice, but never had my heart ever pounded, in my chest, like this before in anybody's closeness.
Never had I ever been so passionate to get a glimpse of someone.
Never had I ever centralised on anyone like this.
What was this presentiment?
After the job finished at 7, I walked through the streets engrossed in Arthur's fantasies.
A person came up beside me. His head was covered in the hood he wore. And he wore a mask too.
I tried to move away from him. But he kept following me. I started to take brisk and fast steps clutching my jacket more tighter to me. I looked behind me from the corner of my eye, that man was still chasing me.
I took a sharp turn around the corner and bumped into somebody. I looked up to see who it was.
Arthur.
I had been s**t-scared.
He held my shoulders and said, "Clara?"
I looked at him,"Oh thank God". I had a sigh of relief. He hugged me by holding my head from behind.
I turned behind and saw the man standing there watching us.
"Let's go Arthur", I said to him but his gaze was fixed on the person far behind me.
I shook him by his arm and said again, "Arthur let's go".
His eyes had seemed cold when he was staring at that person.
Who was that person?
Did he know him?
