~Cathy~
At the sound of the alarm Alaric and I burst into action- we both know we need to talk about today but our duty will always come first.
The first wolf comes out of nowhere. He slashes his claws at me but I quickly get him into a headlock and finish him. Alaric seems to be holding his own. So I move onto the next one. I notice other wolves making their moves. However I notice Jackson before I notice any others.
Of course in my distraction I fail to see the wolf charging at me until I’m pinned under him. I try to buck him off but he quickly had his jaws around my midsection as he draws blood. He momentarily stops the second he scents my blood.
Suddenly I feel a surge of power in me. It’s no secret that it’s my wolf and I throw the wolf so hard against the tree that I hear his spine snap. It’s too later however. I know they all scented my blood and they all sent it back to their alpha. The wolves retreat as quickly as they showed up. I already know why and I know- I’m f*****.
Luckily it doesn’t seem like Jackson notices my wolfs quick return and then her just as quick departure. He’s too concerned with the wound on my side. My magic wanes in and out at my sudden blood loss. The colour of my skin de-coloring as my magic struggles to keep my appearance. However Jackson doesn’t notice. Despite all the blood- he’s completely focused on my face.
‘I almost lost you. I can’t lose you’ I hear him whisper something else before I completely pass out but I miss it.
I hear roaring and stomping before I can completely pull myself together. I already know it’s Jackson. However I hear Alaric in the background with his father. My hearing still superior but with the blood loss I only hear half of the conversation
‘She’s out of control. She needs to leave’ he’s trying to keep his voice low to avoid the wolves. With the crashing of Jackson screaming and throwing things I doubt anyone besides me hears anything anyways. ‘She- no dad I know he smelled her. We need to remove her. This pack be d*****. He’ll burn it to the ground. Yeah okay- yes alright. We’ll be back’ Alaric’s voice fades into the distance before I can finish the end of the conversation as I see Jackson slam through the door. I smile at him even though he looks p*****. I lean up ready to listen to him as he berates me for letting myself be attacked when I realize it. My necklace is removed. They must’ve removed it during surgery.
‘I have so much you say to you right now but also nothing. Why can I hate you so much but still love you?’ Jackson leans down on my bed and grabs my hand. I nearly lost you. Both you and Anna.’ Jackson’s body trembles slightly as he holds on my hand.
I don’t get a chance to respond before my former friend and her mate bust through the door. They both look disheveled and upset- yet relieved.
‘I always knew you would come back one way or another.’ Jenny knocks Jackson out of the way but he allowed it. She cried as she wrapped her arms around my neck. The beta gave me a sympathetic nod before closing the door. I don’t know how Jenny figured out it was me in my true form. Jackson must’ve explained it to her.
‘That’s a lie- she assumed you were gone if I couldn’t feel you and you left on your own accord from your mate. She could’ve never leave her own.’ Jackson’s word held a bite but no actual aggression. He looked tired like he could barely manage to hold himself up.
‘Now that’s a lie, Jackson. I said she changed. Not that she died. Her wolf left her and I mean none of us could detect her. She needs us though’ she leveled me with a glance. The meek omega I once knew seemed strong. Stronger than I’d ever imagine. More motherly? Only then did I realize she seemed to have a slight bump. How utterly perfect. I couldn’t stop my bitter thought.
‘Thanks um for coming’ my voice came out more gravely and weak than I thought. I’d been injured plenty with hunter fights but never in a possible fatal way. The wolf that bit me will surely be punished if not killed.
‘I see you’re still recovering. I will be around as will my mate. I know we have a ton to get caught up on’ Jenny says as she spares me a glance but more saying it towards Jackson. He nods and she walks away.
‘So when did you plan on telling me’ his demeanor screams casual but his body language screams danger.
I glance at the water that I’m evidently too weak to reach for before Jackson grabs it and levels the straw at my mouth. Even he can’t pretend like the slight tongue lick I have to do to drink the water doesn’t affect him. I can’t hold off on talking forever can i?
‘I never planned on coming back.’ I tried to hold a hard voice but it seemed to fail.
‘But you did. I know you were ordered but we both know you didn’t have to. You have the willpower.’ He sat down at my side and spared me a glance.
‘Actually- I don’t. Imagine Titan as my alpha. I actually don’t have any power anymore. Deidra actually left me shortly after I left the pack.’ I explained. What I actually meant was after I left you. I couldn’t bring myself to say it however.
‘You hated this pack to the point you would’ve lost your wolf?’ He countered. There was no malice to it- just actual confusion. ‘I don’t know anyone who would lose a wolf over a pack. I thought you died when I couldn’t feel Deidra anymore’ I could see his wolf peeking through his eyes. A sort of inconsolable loss at knowing his mate may truly be lost.
‘Somethings are worse than losing a part of yourself’ I whisper. Not ready to dive into anything else but I don’t have to. Alaric already dives through the door.
‘Anna…Cathy. We are leaving. I know you’re injured but Titan needs us. It’s imperative’ he levels a glance at Jackson. I know he has more to say but I don’t foresee Jackson leaving.
‘Very well’ I say as I clasp my hands in my bed. ‘We’ll take off tomorrow’ I don’t miss the fierce determination in Jackson’s eyes as he slams through the doors.
