Chapter 1: पहली नज़र (First Glance) – Expanded
Akshara stepped out of the auto-rickshaw, taking in the sights and sounds of her new college. The vibrant campus was buzzing with students hurrying to classes, laughter echoing around her like a melody. With her heart racing, she adjusted her backpack and took a deep breath.
As she walked through the chaos, her attention was drawn to a group of boys leaning against a wall, their eyes glued to a tall figure in the center. His aura was magnetic. He was Harshad—known as the college heartthrob and the notorious jerk. His confident stance and casual smile had a way of drawing people in.
“Look at him! The way he talks to everyone,” one girl whispered to another. “Ugh, he thinks he owns this place!”
Akshara felt a smirk tugging at her lips. Why do some guys think they are so important? she thought as she brushed past the crowd entranced by him. She valued character, intelligence, and respect more than superficial charm.
Once she entered her first classroom, she took a seat by the window, her thoughts still lingering on the boy with the charming smile. What’s the story behind that arrogance?
As class began, an unexpected interruption shattered her concentration. Harshad burst through the door, his casual demeanor radiating confidence. The professor raised an eyebrow at him.
“Of course, Harshad. You want to join the debate?” the professor asked, amused.
He leaned against the desk. “Well, if it involves sharing my wisdom, how could I say no?”
The class erupted in laughter, and Akshara felt a pang of irritation. What a show-off!
When the topic shifted to social responsibilities, he made a flippant remark. “Why bother with helping others when you can just look out for yourself? It’s survival of the fittest, after all,” he said, nonchalantly tossing his hair back.
Akshara's eyes narrowed. The nerve! She raised her hand, “That’s such a narrow view. Helping others can enhance our own lives in ways we can’t imagine.”
“Oh, look! The new girl has something to say!” he said, mocking surprise while his friends snickered. “What’s your name again?”
“Akshara. And I’m new here, not blind,” she replied, her cheeks heating up under scrutiny.
He smiled slyly, “Well, Akshara, welcome to the jungle. I hope you’ve come prepared to survive.”
As the class resumed, Akshara found it hard to concentrate. Harshad’s smile lingered in her mind, leaving a strange sensation behind. Was he a jerk, or was there more to him than met the eye?
Later, as she walked out of the classroom, her phone buzzed with an incoming message.
Friend’s Message: “How’s your first day? Any cute guys?”
Akshara replied: “Just met the biggest jerk. Apparently, he thinks he’s the king of the world.”
Friend’s Message: “Oooh! Drama already! Keep me posted!”
Akshara rolled her eyes but couldn't shake the feeling that her journey in this college would be anything but dull. Little did she know, Harshad was far more complex than her initial assessment—and their paths were destined to intertwine in ways that would change them both.
