“You know what I have learned about myself?” Lucius stared directly at him now. Dagon looked into his friend’s pained eyes and nodded slowly, wondered if it was his friend speaking, or if in the recesses of Lucius’ person, there was now a wounded demi-god addressing him. And he found it frightening. “Yes. I know.” “Then you know I cannot sit idly by.” “There is nothing you can do.” Lucius shook his head. “Maybe not, but I want to go back.” “Where?” Dagon asked. “To the home they took from me. To the hillfort.” Dagon paused. “It’s not safe.” “It has been over a year.” “And that is not long enough.” “I want you to come with me. Just once.” Dagon closed his eyes. A part of him dreaded retracing the steps to that place, the images of Lucius and Adara bloody and broken in the barges
