Lady Moonbeam, her face a mask of rage, strode inside her chambers. She was ready to vent her anger since the interaction with Lykaios in the war chamber had stoked a fire inside of her.
Her daughter Gilda was contentedly munching on a tray of sweets as sat on a plush cushion,
“Mother, where were you?" Gilda's mouth was full when she enquired.
“I have been waiting for ages… but then I have my snacks for company.” Princess Gilda continued muttering nonstop with any consideration to her mother’s miserable state.
“Mother, what happened to you?” It seems the young princess had finally sensed her mother’s mood as she came forward scanning her enraged mother’s face.
Princess Gilda sighed, “Did you have a fight with that witch?” The girl’s eye narrowed as she stared at her angered mother.
Since Lady Moonbeam didn’t answer her, Gilda decided to continue munching on her snacks.
"Take those snacks and go." Lady Moonbeam yelled, “I'm not in the mood for your…antics."
“But Mother!" sulked Gilda. “What did I do?"
Lady Moonbeam's eyes flashed as she scowled at her daughter who was staring back at her.
“Gilda, get out of my sight.”
Gilda hurriedly grappled up her sweet tray after noticing her rage. Gilda mumbled, "Fine," and turned to go.
“Put that tray down," said Lady Moonbeam. "And walk like a lady."
“Princess Gilda, I am talking to you.” Lady Moonbeam shouted when her foolish daughter stood to run with her tray of sweets.
Gilda's face flushed as she stomped her foot. "Fine!" She hurried out of the room after slamming the tray down.
Lady Moonbeam's jaw tightened as she watched her daughter leave. Lady Moonbeam banged her fist on the next table as soon as Gilda was out of sight. Her beautiful green bracelets were broken by the power of the hit, and blood trickled down her wrist.
Her voice was shaking with anger as she yelled, "How dare he treat me like that?" She hissed, “And that kid! What a rude brat!"
In an attempt to gather herself, she inhaled deeply. She couldn't risk losing her composure. She had to be strategic. The wolf king is smart but she will be smarter.
“Mary!" she yelled, her tone piercing.
Her lady in waiting hurried into the room, her worried eyes wide. “Yes, my lady?"
"Send for Lucian," said Lady Moonbeam.
"Immediately."
Mary answered, "Yes, my lady," and hurried away after bowing.
Lady Moonbeam's thoughts were racing as she paced the room. Her pride had been bruised by Lykaios's rejection, that little boy that she grew up in her hands. but she refused to let that stop her. She would carry out her plan whether or not he agreed with it.
The son of Lady Moonbeam, Lucian, came into the room a few minutes later. His eyes were piercing and calculating, and he was tall and attractive.
He said, "Mother," and bowed his head. "You sent for me?"
“Yes, Lucian," answered Lady Moonbeam softly. “I need your help."
“Of course, Mother," returned Lucian. “What is it?"
Lady Moonbeam yelled, "Lykaios has insulted me," in a venomous voice. “He dismissed my plan for the harem." She was way too angry to notice the reaction in her son’s eyes.
The young prince couldn’t believe his ears hearing what his mother just said. His mother has been playing the good stepmother role though!
Lucian's eyes narrowed immediately, “He dared to dismiss you?"
“That Lykaois thinks he can disrespect people around… just because he has no mother doesn’t mean he can do this to you” Prince Lucian was angered at what Lykaios had done to his mother.
But then the angry prince’s mother just stayed at her son when he mentioned the wolf king’s mother. Her eyes conveyed something deep as she exhaled.
“Lykaois is getting out of control. That beast werewolf wants to get rid of us all.” Prince Lucian Draven was getting out of control. His anger flared anew each time the wolf king popped up in his mind.
“Just do me the favor and use your head… we don’t want your brother using our mistakes against us.” She warned her impulsive son.
“But he dared to disrespect you, mother.”
“Yes," answered Lady Moonbeam. "He believes he can disregard me. I'll show him, though. I will bring those women from Aeridor and Solis, and I will make him regret his arrogance."
“What do you need me to do, Mother?" Lucian asked in a composed tone.
Lady Moonbeam stated, "I need you to make sure that the arrangements are made quickly and discreetly." She added, “Delays are not something we can afford. Additionally, I need you to convince the traders in Solis and Aeridor…. We need to confirm that they accept our conditions.”
The words, "Consider it done, Mother," came out of Lucian's bright eyes. "I will handle everything."
"Good," replied Lady Moonbeam, a little smile appearing on her face. And keep in mind, Lucian, that this is about more than just the harem. It has to do with power. We will show to Lykaios that we are not to be taken lightly.”
"I understand, Mother," Lucian remarked, “We will make him pay for his disrespect."
“Excellent," replied Lady Moonbeam. “Go now. Time is of the essence.”
With his thoughts already focused on the specifics of his mother's scheme, Lucian bowed and walked out of the room. Lady Moonbeam was filled with satisfaction as she watched him leave. She would get her revenge with Lucian's assistance.
She picked up a shattered piece of her bracelets off her vanity table. She examined her fingers that was covered in blood.
"He will learn," she muttered, anger flaming in her eyes. "He will learn to respect me. That boy.”
Lady Moonbeam was aware that her game was risky. But in order to accomplish her objectives, she was prepared to take any and all risks. She would have the power she so desperately desired. And nobody would stop her—not even the Wolf King.
