Chapter 44 Raine’s POV Something was wrong. I felt it before I even opened my eyes. The air around me was cold—too cold. Not the kind of cold that just brushed against your skin. This one crept in quietly, like a parasite. It sank into my bones. Into my lungs. Into my thoughts. Into my soul. I sat up abruptly, gasping for air, like I’d been drowning in my own dreams. My heart was pounding, and every breath came out in small puffs of white mist. My fingers trembled as they reached for the blanket I didn’t remember kicking off. Why was it so cold? I looked around slowly. I was in my room. At least, it looked like my room. Same lavender walls. Same crooked painting I never bothered to fix. Same wind chimes tapping gently against the window.
