Cassie Jones’s POV
I froze.
Dozens of rogue wolves circled me, teeth bared, eyes glowing red in the dark. My heart thudded painfully as I stepped back, trying to move quietly—one wrong sound and I was done for.
My wolf, Gina, was still weak from the last attack. If I shifted now, I wouldn’t survive.
So I ran.
Branches whipped my face as I bolted through the trees, lungs burning, vision spinning. I hadn’t eaten properly in days—my legs felt like lead. Then my foot caught a root, and I crashed to the ground, pain shooting up my leg.
A sharp cry escaped me. My ankle twisted hard, useless now. I tried calling to Gina, but she didn’t respond. I was alone.
When I looked up, two glowing red eyes stared back. The rogue stepped forward, snarling, ready to strike.
I shut my eyes, bracing for pain.
But instead of claws, I heard a low growl—and then a violent crash.
Two enormous black wolves tackled the rogue to the ground. Blood spattered the dirt, and in moments, the beast lay lifeless. I blinked as the two wolves shifted into men before my eyes.
The first had short, dark hair with a single strand falling over sharp blue eyes and lips too perfect to be real.
The second was taller, hair longer and tied half up, deep green eyes glinting with quiet danger.
For a second, I forgot how to breathe.
“Hey"
The blue-eyed one smirked. “Are you done drooling?”
Heat rushed to my cheeks. “Sorry. My bad.” I cleared my throat and looked away. “Thanks for saving me.”
I stood up, dusting myself. “I don't have anything to repay you with but if there is anything at all…maybe in the future. I will and on the moon I promise”
They didn’t answer. The green-eyed one—colder, distant—just said, “Do you know how to get to the Greyer Pack?”
“Uh… yeah, I think so.” I dug out my crumpled map and showed it to them. They studied it for a while, nodding.
I turned to leave, but then
That pull again.Electric.
A warm strawberry scent filled the air, wrapping around me like silk. Gina, silent for weeks, suddenly howled inside me.
They’re ours.
My breath caught. “What?”
Both men froze. They felt it too. Their eyes darkened as they stepped closer, instinct taking over, the bond humming between us.
“She’s the one,” the blue-eyed one murmured.
My body reacted before my mind could process it—heat curling in my stomach, my pulse racing. Not again. Not like this.
I stumbled back, shaking my head. “No. This can’t—this isn’t possible.”
We all said it at once. The air between us thickened, charged.
Then, slowly, I realized… my ankle didn’t hurt anymore. Gina purred in my head.
Nice timing, I muttered silently.
Could this really be happening?
Two mates? After Jamie rejected me? Fate was either mocking me or giving me a second chance.
The blue-eyed one stepped closer, voice softer now. “If you’ve got nowhere to go, come with us.”
“How safe am I coming with you?" I asked the obvious question. They just saved my life, you dumb ass. My wolf stirred as if she is angry with me.
“You’re Alphas?” I asked carefully.
“Yes,” the colder one replied. “Alphas of the Emerald Pack.”
“What are you doing here?" I answered because it was unusual for Alpha to be alone out in the wood talk less of the Alphas of the Emerald pack.
I stared. The Emerald Pack—a name whispered across territories. Powerful. Fearless. Ruled by twin Alphas who shared one bond, one will.
“We were ambushed" they said at once. Wow…the rhythm and baritone of the voice made my body shiver.
“Of course,” I said quietly. “I’m Cassie. Cassie Jones.”
“I’m Lark,” said the blue-eyed one, smiling faintly. “And he’s Mark.”
Mark barely nodded. “Grab your things. We leave now.”
I blinked. “Right. Um, I don’t have much to grab.”
We started walking, Lark slowing his steps to match mine.
“Don’t mind Mark,” he said lightly. “He looks cold, but he’s not. He just… doesn’t show emotion well.”
I glanced at Mark’s broad back ahead of us. “Maybe you’re right. Time will tell.”
Hours Later
I could sense it even before I saw it—the shift in the air, the hum of power. We had crossed into their territory.
Guards at the border straightened the moment they saw the twins, bowing low. But when their eyes fell on me, hesitation flickered across their faces.
“Let her in,” Lark ordered.
They obeyed.
As we entered the heart of the Emerald Pack, whispers followed us. Curious stares. Judging looks. My clothes were torn, my hair tangled. I could feel the weight of their eyes and wanted to shrink away.
But then Mark stopped. He lifted his head and let out a low, commanding howl that silenced everyone.
We had reached the pack square—a vast open space dominated by a statue of twin wolves carved from black stone.
Lark’s voice rang out first. “She is one of us now. Treat her as family.”
I blinked, stunned.
Then Mark added, his tone firm and absolute, “For she will be your next Luna.”
The news was too sudden for me— I noticed the looks some gave me, scanning and whispering about my disheveled clothing and dry looking skin. They don't want to believe that I am the one.
The square erupted in murmurs. Disbelief. Awe. The people who had looked down on me now bowed their heads because of respect of the twin
Mark’s gaze swept over them, dangerous. “She’s our mate. Anyone who disrespects her—anyone—will answer to me. And to our law.”
My heart pounded. “Wouldn’t that be too much?” I whispered to Lark.
He only smiled. “No. It’s just enough.”
Then a voice cut through the noise.
“You can’t just make her Luna.”
The crowd gasped.
I turned—my heart stopping cold.
Standing at the edge of the square, her lips curved in a cruel smile
Daisy.
