Cassie Jones’s POV
The morning light spilled through the curtains, soft and golden. I rolled over with a sleepy smile, reaching for the warmth beside me—only to find cool, empty sheets.
“Jamie?”
Silence.
My smile faltered. The memories of last night came in fragments—his hands, his whispers, the way he’d said you’re mine before pulling me close. I glanced down at the faint trace of blood on the sheets, proof of what we’d shared. Proof that it had meant something.
At least, I thought it did.
Shaking off the unease, I showered and slipped into the blush-pink dress folded neatly on the dresser. He’d probably left it for me, I told myself. The new Alpha had duties to attend to, and I’d see him soon enough—standing proud before the pack, announcing his Luna.
My heart skipped. Maybe… maybe that Luna would be me.
If with those words he said and the s*x we had. I knew that I will be Luna and it was very close
I left the room, purse in hand, as whispers floated through the corridor. The maids’ voices drifted after me.
“The alpha just found his mate. Thank to the moon goddess for this, I thought he was cursed or something"
I came closer to them
“Did you hear? The Alpha’s announcing his Luna today.”
“Really? I wonder who she is.”
I smiled to myself, pulse racing. He was doing it publicly, then. He wasn’t hiding me.
Every step toward the great hall filled me with a giddy, nervous warmth. By the time I reached the doorway, I was trembling—not with fear, but hope.
Jamie stood at the front, radiant in his authority. The crowd hushed when he raised a hand, his voice smooth, commanding.
“Everyone has been wondering who will stand beside me as Luna.”
My breath hitched. Our eyes met across the room. He smiled—soft, familiar—and I nearly melted.
He’s going to say my name.
He has to.
“She’s someone strong, beautiful… a woman with a brave heart.”
The words wrapped around me like a promise. I smoothed my dress, ready to step forward.
“It’s no other than—Alex.”
For a heartbeat, I thought I’d misheard. Then the hall erupted in cheers.
The world tilted.
A figure brushed past me—Alex—her perfume sharp as she strutted down the aisle. Someone shoved me from behind, and I fell hard to my knees as she took the stage. Jamie took her hand.
Then he kissed her.
The sound around me dulled to a low roar, like blood rushing in my ears. My chest tightened; my breath came in shallow bursts.
No. No, this couldn’t be real.
He turned back to the crowd, still holding her hand.
“She’s my fated mate,” he announced proudly. “We discovered it weeks ago, but kept it quiet until after the coronation. I wanted the ceremony to go smoothly.”
Weeks ago.
The words sliced through me. Weeks ago—while he held me, kissed me, whispered that I was his.
The cheers turned hollow, the lights too bright. My body moved before my mind caught up, fury and heartbreak blurring into one. I pushed through the crowd until I reached the stage.
“What is this?” My voice trembled. “Jamie, what are you doing?”
The room fell silent.
He turned to me, his expression unreadable. “Cassie”
“Why her?” My tears burned as they fell. “Why does she get to be your Luna? What about last night? You said you loved me!”
A cold smile curved his lips, one I’d never seen before. “Last night?” he repeated softly, almost mocking. “That was a mistake. Two friends who drank too much. It meant nothing and I didn't force you and we are both adult”
The words hit harder than any blow. My knees nearly gave out. Around us, whispers rippled through the hall, each one a knife to my pride.
“You’re lying,” I whispered, shaking my head. “You can’t mean that.”
He looked at me then—and I saw it. The hatred. The disgust. The complete absence of the boy who once swore to protect me.
“Go home, Cassie,” he said. “Before you embarrass yourself further.”
Something inside me cracked.
Before I could stop myself, my hand flew. The sound of the slap echoed through the silent hall.
Jamie’s head snapped to the side, a red mark blooming on his cheek. Gasps erupted around us.
Tears blurred my vision, but I stood tall, voice breaking.
“You already did that for me.”
