RISE UP, MOVE ON (A Short Story)

NINE

Edith had always been a strong and independent woman. She believed in working hard and never giving up on your dreams. It was this attitude that had led her to where she was now, with a successful career and a loving family. But it wasn't always easy.

Growing up, Edith had faced many challenges. Her parents had died when she was young, and she had to learn to fend for herself. She had worked hard to put herself through college and pursue her dreams of becoming a successful lawyer. And she had succeeded, but it had come at a price. She had sacrificed her personal life for her career.

But all that changed when she met her husband, Devin.

He was everything Edith had never known she wanted. He was kind and caring, intelligent and ambitious. He understood her drive and passion for her work, but also made sure she took time for herself. He encouraged her to pursue her dreams, but also reminded her of the importance of family and friends.

When they got married and started a family. Their daughter, Jessica, was born a year later, and became the light of their lives. Edith couldn't believe how lucky she was to have found Devin, and to have such a beautiful daughter.

Over the years, Edith's career continued to flourish, but her priorities shifted. She still worked hard and gave her all to her job, but she also made sure to spend time with her family. She took Jessica to school every morning and picked her up every afternoon. She helped with homework, went to parent-teacher conferences, and attended school events. And she and Devin, made sure to have date nights and weekends away, just the two of them.

As Jessica grew up, Edith continued to be grateful for her family. They supported her through the ups and downs of her career, and provided a sense of stability and love that she had never had before. And she did the same for them, always there when they needed her, whether it was for a hug or a listening ear.

When Jessica graduated from high school, Edith couldn't believe how fast the time had flown by. She was proud of her daughter and excited for her to go off to college, but also a little sad to see her leave home. But she knew that no matter what, she and David would always be there for Jessica, just as they had always been there for each other.

As Edith looked back on her life, she knew that she had been blessed in so many ways. She had overcome challenges and achieved success, but most importantly, she had a loving husband and daughter who had been there for her through it all. She was grateful for every moment she had spent with them, and looked forward to the many more years of happiness and memories that lay ahead.
